Page 96 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
“I… don’t know.” I said and she raised a brow. I couldn’t recall if I ever asked myself that question, but at the moment, I was. Did I like Lucas as more than a friend? Or did I just feel too free around him?
One thing I knew was that I liked him than I ever liked all my friends, and at the moment, I liked him more than I liked John.
“I don’t know if I like him that way, but if I do, and do not know about it yet, then I’ll try my best to stop it. I know it’s not right.” I said, fiddling with my fingers, hoping that saving her life accidentally would be enough to make her take my side.
“You know, it was a big shame when you broke off the engagement with John. I thought of all the marriages we declined, and all the people who knew about it, but it was even a bigger shame seeing John’s unfaithful and disgusting chat exposed in such a manner.
John does not worth you. Any man who stoops so low to cheat, does not deserve his woman, not if she’s cheating too.
“But, as of this moment, I’ll no longer try to stop you if you like Lucas.
You know, while there was no one with me, and I was experiencing pain—before I passed out on the cold floor, I thought about my life.
I wondered if I made the right choices, and the last person I thought of before passing out was my husband.
I don’t want you to have any regrets, so I won’t stop whatever you feel.
” She said warmly, and my heart melted at how motherly she sounded.
I had only heard such words from Dahlia.
“So… you mean I can like Lucas if I want to?”
“As long as you can keep it a secret between the three of us, I don’t see what the problem is.” She replied, taking an apple, and I smiled. I had earned my spot in her heart, and I was proud of it.
“Thank you. I won’t hesitate to like him, nor would I hold back my feelings.” I told her, with a smile, feeling better about the whole thing.
“John is yet to grow. When he does away with his childish behavior, he’ll find who’s right for him. Hopefully, he doesn’t lose his way.” She said, and I nodded.
“I agree that he’s a little immature.”
“Thanks once again, Emily. Thanks to you, I’m still here, hoping to make better choices.” She said, and I smiled again.

“Hi Lucas.” I said, immediately he picked my call.
“Hey. What did Genevieve say?” He asked.
“Not much. She was grateful. Are you home?”
“No, I’m on my way home.”
“Are you close to the hospital?”
“Are you?” He returned.
“Yeah. I decided to walk, but the journey’s quite long and cold.” I said, hoping he’d offer to give me a ride.
“Want to have coffee?”
Even better.
“Sure. Should I wait? I’m in front of… uh, Royal’s Bakery.” I said, turning around.
“Will be right there.” He replied, and I waited.
Shortly, his car pulled up next to me, and he got out.
“You seem to be in a good mood.”
“It’s not everyday you get to be thanked by someone so strict, you know.” I said, and he laughed.
We both went to a nearby café, and ordered coffee.
“You must have been scared.” He said, drinking the steaming coffee.
“Yeah, I was, but I wasn’t as scared as I am at the idea of having coffee at night. Would you sleep?” I asked, and he laughed, then looked at me.
Those green eyes.
“I can talk to you all night.” He said, and for an unknown reason, my mind traveled further than he had mentioned.
Talking all night, in his bed, wearing his clothes, close to each other, kissing, smiling, taking cloths off, repeating our first night together… “Emily.” He called, and I almost spilled hot coffee on the table.
“Uh? Oh, uh… yeah, sure.”
“What were you thinking about?” He asked, and I shook my head.
“I wasn’t thinking about anything.” I lied.
“You had a distant look when I said we’d talk all night. Did your mind go far?” He asked, and I choked on the coffee that had almost made it down my throat. “Oh my God, I’m right.”
“No, no. That’s not it.” I coughed heavily, and he burst into laughter.
Boy, he was handsome. So handsome, that even I began to to laugh.
“I’m serious. It’s not it.” I insisted, laughing.
Just then, we saw someone unexpected walk in.
Katie.
“Hi.” She said, taking in the scene.
“Hi, Katie. Are you up for some late night coffee too?” Lucas asked, and she shook her head, although she looked really uncomfortable.
“I wanted to ask for Emily’s laptop. I just saw you, and…” She asked, stretching out her hand.
“It’s not with me. It’s at home.” I said, and her fingers curled up, before she withdrew her hand.
“Right. It’s at home. Uh, see you tomorrow. And you too, Alpha Lucas.” She said, and walked away. I watched her go. She was probably thinking I was the lady Lucas told her he liked. Probably she saw him with a lady, and had to confirm which lady, only to discover the lady was me.
~
The next morning, the air felt cold, and even as I typed, my fingers felt numb, and slow.
“Gosh, this is so bad.” I said to myself, as I left the window side. Just then, Katie walked through the front door. She was just arriving.
She looked around.
“Who’s home?”
“The maids, don’t know about John.”
“Lucas is out?”
“He’s out.” I replied, and she dropped her bag on a nearby sofa, and took in deep breaths, like she was about to burst into flames.
“What are you doing?” She asked, with suppressed rage.
“What am I…?”
“Do you just want to drive me crazy? Because I slept with John? Well, get over it! Are you doing this on purpose? Do you think I ever wanted to sleep with John? Damn you! Don’t ruin the love I had for six years!” She screamed.
Honestly, I had never seen Katie as mad as that.
