Page 85 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
JOHN’S POV.
It seemed like I been skidding down a hill at rocket speed, not having time to stop, but only being aware of the trouble awaiting me at the very bottom.
Ever since I had been caught sleeping with Katie, I had always felt things were wrong.
Emily had changed drastically.
What made it worse was because I didn’t know she had it in her to be such an emotionally detached person.
I didn’t even think she could do a day or a week without me. With the way she was moving on, it felt like she was erasing me from her head and heart completely.
Honestly, she wouldn’t have, if not that Lucas kept getting in the way. If she fell for Lucas, then it would mean I had lost complete control over her.
Looking at her, I knew she planned it all with Sadie. She had it in mind to break herself free, and she probably thought the best way to do it was to expose my infidelity.
Too bad Mandy alone took the fall. Did she think she could escape me? No way. I looked at the family as they stared at Emily in shock, but with a touch of resignation.
They were going to pin all the blame on me.
“Emily, what are you saying? You’re too mad to speak right now. Think things over, and return. You can just…” I began.
“I’m not mad. I’m being firm. I cannot marry a man who cheats on me and is open with it. No.” I said, and the family looked resigned.
“We cannot stop her.” Alpha Will said.
“If that’s what she wants, then break off the engagement.” Alpha Raymond grunted, and Emily beamed.
“Dad. Tell her to calm down, and think…”
“One more word, John, and I’d really lose my temper with you.” He said menacingly, and I kept quiet.
I knew how angry my dad could get, and the worst part was that he never let how angry he was show on his face.
He was always discreet with it.
Then he’d show it when he was alone, or alone with the person, who angered him.
I looked at Lucas and saw he wasn’t as troubled as the others were. He probably saw it as an opportunity to take Emily for himself. I knew he had feelings for her. When and how it had happened, I had no idea.
“You don’t have to get engaged to John, but during your stay in this mansion, you’re not to speak about it, not until we find a way around it.” Lady Genevieve said, and she looked a little displeased, but she nodded.
“If one word about it gets out. A word about this cheating stuff and you breaking the engagement, you’re going to end up like Mandy. You’d like her for a cellmate, wouldn’t you?” Lady Mira threatened, and she shook her head.
“I won’t tell anyone about it.” She said immediately.
“You’ll wait for us to make the decisions. However long that may take.” Alpha Will concluded, and got up from his table. “I believe I’ve lost my appetite.” He said, and walked away.
“Does anyone still have their appetite? This is insane.” Lady Mira said, getting to her feet.
“In my room, John.” My father said, and I bit my lip slightly. I shot Sadie a glare, and she was haughty enough to return it. It was a level of disrespect that I couldn’t take. If only there was a way to punish her, without consequences.
My father left the table, and I followed after him.
We walked into his room, and I closed the door after me. I walked a few feet, and watched him with his back turned to me.
“Since when?” He asked, and I swallowed.
“Mandy?”
“Since when have you been sleeping with her?”
“Since I met her.” I replied in a low voice, but before I could look up and try to offer other explanations, he had swiveled, and hit me hard across the face.
I staggered backwards, and felt blood in my mouth.
“I’m sorry.” I said.
“You’re a disgrace. What would your cousins think of you? You’re the eldest among them, but you don’t act like it. You act like a freaking, spoilt baby. Won’t you grow up? If we allowed you to marry Alpha Romeo’s daughter, Henning, is this what you’d do? If she was the one, do you think this would end with a simple engagement breaking?” He asked, looking like he might pop.
“I’m sorry.”
“You’re going to be punished! They’ll never take such disgrace!”
“I’m so…” I was saying, but his next hit sent me crashing to the floor.
I got to my feet immediately, and bowed my head.
“Don’t let me hear those words from your mouth. You’re a good for nothing fool. What will ‘sorry’ mend? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Get out. Out from my presence!” He shouted, and I exited his room immediately.
It felt like not only my face stung. My heart did too. If there was anyone I looked up to the most in my life, it was my father.
Walking past the dining, I saw it empty. The maids were already packing up the plates. I sighed, and picked up my phone, which I had left.
On my way to our mansion, I saw Emily, and the kids. They were talking and she was laughing. How happy she looked. Was she really that happy to be rid of me?
“Yes, we’re going to Lucas’ room. You didn’t tell us you staged such a thing. We’d have been happy to join.” Derella said.
“I know you would have, because seriously, Mandy has been such a goat. She prances around like she’s some Queen who has been accepted into the family.” Sadie replied, packing her hair up in a pony tail.
“John was insane to sleep with her.” Jude said, shaking her head.
“What did he see in her?” Derel asked, laughing.
Just seeing them together like that made me feel like the outsider. They were my family, but they were all flocking around her, happy to be with her.
Even Lucas who I liked best had gone to her.
It felt like two people I liked best, suddenly liked each other, and left me alone.
And the feeling arising in my heart was none other than sadness, and regret, mixed with jealousy.
