Page 139 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
LUCAS’ POV.
“You know, I met Katie today.” Emily began, when we met at the garden late at night.
“Katie?”
“She quit.” Emily replied, looking at me.
“Why? She’s been working with John for years. Something really terrible must have happened for her to leave him. It must have been a tough decision.”
“Yeah. John tricked her, and made her get the documents for the Alpha marriage. She didn’t know he had intended it for me because he lied to her saying it was for two friends who were in love.
She got mad, and didn’t want to be the reason people’s lives are easily ruined by John.
” She replied, and I actually felt proud of Katie.
Due to John’s immaturity, Katie had actually taken care of him, cleaned up his mess, advised him, and had truly cared for him even though she didn’t love him romantically.
She probably saw parts of him that no one else could.
Katie was in the best position to know if John would change, and her leaving meant she knew it was all over, and John wouldn’t change.
“What did you tell her?” I asked, holding Emily’s hand.
“That it wasn’t her fault, but John’s. Then, she cried.”
“That’s nice of you.”
“I know she’s not as heartless as John, and I felt she was also trying to confirm that she wasn’t turning into John.” She said, slowly, and I took in a deep breath.
“Thankfully, she knew when to withdraw. So, we were talking about something else previously in the room.” I said, sweetly to her, and she laughed.
“We were talking about going back to being teenagers, and trying ourselves everywhere. In the kitchen, in the car, you forget to mention here in the garden.” She said, and we began to talk romantically.
Just when we began to kiss, we heard a loud rustling of leaves, and as we turned our heads towards the sound, John staggered out, looking like a beast who had been derived of sleep.
Emily tensed up in my arms, and her fingers closed over the fabric of my shirt. Her eyes looked like she had seen a devil, and her lips were slightly parted, as she wondered what was going to happen next.
I didn’t want us to get caught solely because of Emily. I wouldn’t always be around, and if he hurt her, it would hurt me badly. That was why I had tried as much as Emily to be discreet.
However, he had finally found out, and he looked every bit like a mad bull. Even from where I stood, the smell of alcohol followed him, and it was obvious he had drunk ceaselessly.
“What is this? What is this sobering up scene?” He asked, as his eyes darted restlessly from me to Emily. “I’m asking what the heck this is!” He shouted, breathing hard, and it felt like his eyes would pop right out of their sockets.
“It’s as you see it.” I replied calmly, and he took a step further, making Emily step back.
“You both are actually in an affair? Since when? Tell me. How long have I been the fool? How long have you guys been getting together like this?” He asked, and his eyes gleamed with moisture.
Angry tears filled his eyes. The tears were a direct opposition to the mad fury on his face.
“You. Emily, you. I cheated on you with Katie, and you changed everything. You turned cold, and shut me out. You acted like I had committed a sin worthy of death, and that I was the one in the wrong, and couldn’t be forgiven.
That’s what you did! But what’s this? You also decided to cheat?
I tried my best to make it up to you. I wanted to show you there was still a future for us, and I accepted I was wrong.
“Now, how do I know what’s wrong and what’s not!
? You’re also a cheat, so what!? If you knew you were going to cheat, couldn’t you have been a little nicer?
Uh? You were doing the same thing, so why were you a damn hypocrite to me?
We’re married now! No matter how the marriage took place, you’re a married woman!
What do you want our kids to think?” He asked, completely overwhelmed in the tide of his emotions.
“She’s not a cheat.” I said, firmly. “She was long done with you before she came to me. You’re the one deceiving yourself there’s still something to hold on to.
There’s nothing to hold on to, John. You both happened in the past, and it stays in the past. This is why you can never get it.
If you have the nerve to compare yourself to her in terms of cheating, you will really never get it. ”
“Never get what?”
“Why she chose me over you.”
“Damn you!” He spat.
“You’re an idiot who will never grow up, and you will never accept the blame for your mistakes. Rather, you always look for a way to crawl out, and push someone else to take the blame for your mistakes.”
“Stop it.” He said, and lunged towards me, raising his hand to strike me. I wasn’t about to allow him to hit me, so I hit him first, before he could get his fist to my cheek.
“John, stop. I’m with Lucas now, and you should accept it. We knew from this start that the marriage can only be a beautiful cover for the public to stare at, and nothing else.” Emily said, and John placed his thumb on his lip. It came off with blood, and he scoffed.
“Damn you.” He spat, and lunged at me.
We exchanged a few blows, and Emily tried to separate us, but I pushed her out of the way, so she wouldn’t get hurt.
“Lucas, stop! Just leave him. He’s not going to listen.” Emily shrieked, coming towards us again.
“She’s mine! Mine and mine alone!” John shouted, extracting his claws. I pushed him hard, and he landed on the floor, on his back. He stayed there, breathing hard, while his chest still heaved in fury.
Emily came to me, and looked at my knuckles which were bleeding from the punches John had suffered.
“Are you okay?” She asked me.
“I’m not okay!” John shouted instead, and got to his feet, keeping his eyes on us.
Just you wait. The both of you are doomed.
I won’t let this slide. It will not slide.
Emily and I are engaged in the Alpha Marriage, and maybe I didn’t understand it clearly, but I’m waiting for you two to go a little further.
Maybe it will be better for me if Lucas suddenly drops dead.
Then it will be just you and me, Emily, and you will oh, so regret it.
As for this, this won’t slide. I’m going to reveal to the whole world what you did.
” He said, in a voice filled with fury, and Emily froze.
“What?” She asked.
“You heard me. The whole world is going to hear of this!”
