Page 64 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Sadie couldn’t have Derella outed to the scary family she had, and despite myself, I was unhappy that Mandy had to stay.
“Who said she was gay?” Sadie asked.
“I don’t need to debate that with you. If you’re so uncomfortable, we only need to walk over to the next mansion, and call for an urgent family meeting.” Mandy said, sticking a fork into a sliced watermelon.
“You know, it’s your choice, darling. You can choose to reveal Derella’s secret, and cause problems, or you can simply choose to back off and lay low.” Mandy said, putting her watermelon into her mouth, and chewing slowly.
“Lucky you. You get off this time, but not for long.” Sadie said, with cold venom. Then turned around. “Follow me.” She commanded, storming away, and it hurt my pride.
“What? You’re subject to an eight-year-old now?” Mandy asked, with an amused smirk.
“Emily!” Sadie called, and I looked at Mandy.
“If you think so.” I replied, and walked away, after Sadie who had me boiling quite hard.
“It’s quite late, don’t you think? I have work to do, and if you had any consideration or respect, you wouldn’t show everyone that you have something on me. Where else are we going?” I asked, with my voice getting louder by the second, but she didn’t reply.
I kicked the floor hard, and almost fell, causing me to curse without intending to.
Sadie went to her mother’s mansion, and I bit my lip hard. Where did she want me to go? Did she intend to cry to her mother because she lost?
The maids preparing the household for bed all bowed as me and Sadie passed by, and they didn’t stay in her way.
They probably recognized that she was in a foul temper.
I followed Sadie through the unfamiliar mansion, and we walked into an elevator, which took us to the highest floor, and she stepped out angrily.
We got to her room, and I saw it was completely draped in pink. Pink walls, wardrobe, shelves, books, desk, chair, bedsheets, bedframe, curtains, doors, middle frame… everything was pink.
She dragged a large pink bag that could contain her, and still leave enough space, and went to her wardrobe. She threw clothes into it, toys, bedtime books, shoes, bags, snacks, her phone, and other unimportant things that eight-year-olds considered relevant.
“What are you doing?” I asked, as she zipped the bag.
“I’m also staying at John’s mansion.”
“What? Are you crazy?”
“I never give up. Never. I always get what I want, and I will get what I want. You are the only lady fit for Lucas, and I will boast and brag that I joined you two together.” She said, dragging the huge bag out.
I refrained myself from biting my lip because if I did, it would be so bloody that blood would run down.
She drove me crazy.
“Sadie, you just can’t… everyone still thinks I’m engaged to John, and even though they know, Lucas doesn’t like women, and will never like the woman his nephew ought to have married. I also can’t marry my ex’s uncle. You shouldn’t meddle in adult matters. Just watch cartoons, and read bedtime stories. Why are you like this?” I asked, getting more enraged because she didn’t reply me.
What was her deal?
I was very sure she would go back on her word, and tell everyone I slept with Lucas if I told her I didn’t mind everyone knowing I was no longer with John.
I followed her back to John’s mansion, and she chose the room next to mine.
Even more frustrating.
I walked into my room, and punched my chair to the floor.
The Grangers were driving me crazy.
I can’t even recall how I slept, but I knew I was awake for a long time, folding my arms, while staring at the ceiling from my bed.
~
When I woke up, I nearly screamed, as I saw black hair coming out from under my sheets.
I sat up, and pulled back the blankets. Sadie was there, curled up like a cat, and I couldn’t save myself, as I fell backwards to the floor.
“Why so shocked? You don’t like sharing your bed?” She asked, sleepily, and sat up.
“Ouch.” I said, trying to rub my aching butt.
She yawned, and stretched, showcasing sweet flexibility.
“You wake really late. I’ve been to your room thrice. Do you dream a whole movie in your head before waking? Even movies don’t take that long to end. I’d say you were watching seasonal movies.” She said, and I got up.
“Why were you in my room thrice?”
“I feel so annoyed. Mandy keeps walking around half-dressed. She was in her undies this morning.”
“What?” I asked, with my mouth falling open.
“Yes. Just her brassiere and panty.” She said, seeming satisfied with my shock.
“Is she crazy?”
“She’s nuts. She lost it already.” Sadie replied, and I sat on the bed.
“Then you don’t have to worry about her stealing Lucas. He’ll never look her way if she goes around semi-naked.” I said, and Sadie smiled slowly.
“Hm. I can also spread horrible stories.” She said. Sadie and I spent the whole day in my room, and it wasn’t too uncomfortable, except that about thirty pink things had already found positions in my room.
Sadie sat on my bed, watching cartoons, while I worked on my desk, and it actually felt like we had been roommates forever.
Her giggling was loud, but it made my room feel alive. She also did the job of getting us our breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The next day, she bounced on me, while I was still sleeping.
“Brush your teeth! Lucas is home!” She said, and I sat up, pushing her off me. Why did I feel so happy to hear he was home?
“He’s home?” I asked, and she giggled, getting off the bed.
“I’m saying you’re in love with him. You’re so happy.”
“Happy! Who? Ha! You’re so wrong. By the way, isn’t that my brush on the floor?” I asked, pointing to a brush on the floor.
“Oh yeah, that. I used it to brush my shoes.” She said, and I had already grabbed the pillow and thrown it at her before I could think.
She giggled and ran out the door.
“Don’t use mine!” She shouted.
“Why would I!?” I shouted back.
~
We had breakfast, and Sadie left for school. Immediately Lucas left the table to go to the stairs, I followed after him.
“Welcome.” I said, and he turned.
“Oh, thanks. How are you feeling? Did you rest?” He asked, and I smiled.
“I did.” I replied, and glanced at his handsome face before taking my gaze back to the wall.
“That’s nice. Do you… want to say something?” He asked, ruffling his hair coolly.
“Uh, back then… you said something like… uh. Um, anyways…” I stuck out my hand, looking at him with a brave smile. “You wanted to be friends. I want to be friends too. Let’s be friends.” I said, feeling my chest grow light, as a slow smile crept onto his face.
It’s nothing, Emily. It’s just the feeling of gaining a new friend.
Just that feeling.
Tickly.
