Page 128 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
LUCAS’ POV.
Sadie looked at me, and tears filled up her eyes.
“Thanks for the lesson. Run when I’m scared. Hide instead of fight.” She said, and turned away, leaving my room. I sighed.
I wished it was as easy as she thought it was, but the Alpha Marriage wasn’t something anyone would fight. Emily was completely John’s.
If she tried to love or get married to me, then I would die. She wouldn’t want that. She’d blame herself, and I thought it would be best if we could at least see each other once in a while, than an unnecessary tragedy.
After packing up, I kept my things in Mira’s foyer, since I would not be returning to the room, or the mansion.
The wedding started only when the bride walked in, and honestly, I wished she didn’t look so beautiful. I wished she didn’t have to make my heart beat as hard as that.
“She’s beautiful. I’m glad John worked things out.” Raymond said, with a smile.
“In the future, she’ll appreciate what he did for her. John’s going to be an Alpha, and she’ll be his Luna. She’ll rule with him, and have luxury beyond what she can imagine. Marriage is not all about love. She’s lucky it’s John. At least, they can try rekindling their old fire.” Mira said.
“It’s not as easy as that, and why is Sadie dressed in mourning clothes?” Genevieve asked.
“You think I’d watch her come to wedding like that? I dressed her up prettily, only for her to start taking off the clothing when everyone was busy. She wore the black clothes underneath. I can’t usher her out now, can I?” Mira snapped, giving Sadie a nasty side-eye.
The whole wedding was so hard to watch. It felt like I was breaking all over again. Like someone was smashing my heart with a hammer.
It was then I finally knew she wasn’t happy at all, and that whatever happiness I thought she had was only imagined in my head. Her tears from Derella’s song were real, and her apologetic eyes were on me half the time.
After the bride and groom walked out to dance and celebrate with everyone outside, I slipped away, and unfortunately met Tray with my luggage.
“Lucas, this seems like the wrong thing to do.” He said.
“Tray, let’s not start.”
“I saw your phone, and your research. You’re not going back to LakeWood, you’re flying to Europe.” He said, and I sighed.
“Tray, just let it go. Europe seems good too. I have a company there.” I said, but he didn’t let go of my luggage.
“Lucas, you can’t just leave. It would make her unhappy. Do you want to end up satisfying John?” He asked.
“He’s right.” I heard Sadie say. “I want to be harsh to you, but isn’t Europe a little too far?” She asked, and she looked hurt.
“It wasn’t even up to an hour, but watching Emily and John was miserable. What do you think would happen if I were to watch them everyday?” I asked, and she bit her lip.
“I told mom. She’s coming.”
“I already left a message…”
“And what am I hearing about you leaving, Lucas?” I heard Genevieve say, as she approached us with Will.
“Mira said you’re leaving. Is that true?” Will asked.
“Let’s discuss this inside. I don’t want people seeing us.” Genevieve said, and I took my luggage from Tray.
“Go home, Tray. After all, I’m spending the night with you.” I said, and he walked away after asking if I really had to leave with his eyes.
“You’re really going to leave?” Sadie asked, and when I couldn’t reply, she rolled her eyes, and stormed off.
The halls were dark and quiet, as everyone was in the Raymond Mansion still celebrating the marriage they had witnessed.
We got to Mira’s study, and sat. Shortly, Raymond and Mira joined us.
“What’s this talk of you leaving, Lucas? I thought you were here to stay?” Raymond asked, immediately he came in.
“You’ve been away for so long, but you only want to spend a few months here, and leave?” Mira asked, as they took their seats.
“You don’t need me to stay here, do you? I’m not contributing anything to you.” I said.
“Don’t leave.” Genevieve said.
“Where are you planning on going?” Will asked.
“Europe.” I replied.
“Can you hear him speak? Europe of all places? He’s simply telling us he doesn’t want to stay in touch.” Raymond said.
“Why do you want to leave?” Will asked.
“Do I need to have a reason?”
“This is so sudden.” Genevieve began. “I mean… if there’s something you’re uncomfortable with, you can just tell us. Did we make you uncomfortable in any way?”
“Or he feels pressured by new couples living with him.” Mira snorted.
Will began, “You can’t just leave like that, Lucas.
You’ve spent a long time away from home.
Why would you leave? We want you here. The family isn’t complete without you.
Everyone has been so happy ever since you returned.
Sadie, Jude, the twins. Even us. We’ve been happy to have you back.
You know father always wanted the five of us to stick together. ”
“Will is right. Father treasured you, and wanted you to stay where we could always watch over, and protect you.” Raymond said.
“I’m a man. I can protect myself.” I replied.
“So, you just wish to leave for absolutely no reason. That is preposterous. Why did you suddenly decide to leave? Especially on Emily’s wedding day?
Does this have something to do with her?
” Mira asked. “The public will definitely spin stories. They’re going to ask why you’re leaving after she got married.
They’ll ask too many questions! Was it a love triangle?
Did they fight? Maybe Lucas couldn’t bear seeing them together.
Maybe he likes her more than just friends. They’ll say all sorts of things!”
“Then they’ll be right.” I replied, and they all froze.
“They’d be… what?” Mira asked, slowly.
“I like Emily. I like her more than just friends.”
