Page 47 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle

EMILY’S POV.

Why would he do something as stupid as that in front of a girl who could be really dangerous? Also, in front of his classmates?

His classmates began to cheer, and make noise, hailing, and egging him on.

What did he think he was doing? Suddenly, Derella pushed past me, snatched the flowers, and threw them 0nto the ground nastily, giving Derel an angry look.

She wrapped her fingers around my arm, and pulled me out of the class.

It was a little rude, but I appreciated the gesture.

At least, I didn’t have to wrack my head apart deciding what to do in that situation.

Did he think I was going to take the flowers from him?

Smile, and thank him?

What exactly did his shitty head expect?

As Derella led me out into the emptying halls, Derel caught up with us.

“What are you doing? Can’t you see plan B was needed? She needs to know I’ll never ever be interested in her. Plan A wasn’t working.” Derel said, trying to take my arm, but I jerked it out of his grip, and did the same to Derella, whose grip had become tighter.

“I think I should be the one asking you what you’re doing. What if they take photos, and upload them?” Derella asked, “Tell me what you’re going to do then. Wouldn’t the city be wondering why the soon-to-be Alpha’s cousin is professing love to the woman he’s about to marry? Use your head for once, Derel. If you don’t want dad to solve it for you, then you should solve it yourself without causing problems for everyone else.” She snapped, walking away angrily, and I followed after her to avoid more possible ridiculous requests from Derel.

When Derella got out of the school building, she stopped, and turned to me.

“Were you going to accept the flowers?” She asked, and I scoffed.

“Ever seen a lady accepting flowers from a guy years younger than her? A guy from the family she’s about to marry into? Well, I wanted to thank you. That was a tight position I was in. I’ve never been in such a situation.” I said, honestly, pushing back a handful of hair from my face.

“Don’t you mind Derel. He was just born stupid.” She said, and I chuckled. “So, I’d be leaving.” She said, and walked away, with me wondering how she was able to stop the breeze from lifting her super short skirt.

Then, I was all alone, and it felt like Derel had taken me to his school, and dumped me there. I began to walk amidst the few students left on the school grounds.

I didn’t know how to get home. All I knew was that I had to get a taxi. Unfortunately, I didn’t even know where I had come from. I took a random route, and began to walk away from the school. It landed me in an alley, and I began to rethink my decisions.

My route was definitely not the right route. It wasn’t the way we came.

Just then, I heard a little groan of pain, and a sound that was definitely a slap.

I stopped, and listened, so I could know whether I was to turn away or not.

“Is this really what you’ve got on you?” A girly voice, and I realized they had to be middle school kids bullying someone.

I rushed towards the scene, and behind a wall stood four girls crowded around one.

“Hey!” I said, strongly, and they parted, turning to look at me. Then, I saw the girl they were bullying. It was Jude.

Why… Why would she be bullied? So, it wasn’t just a rumor.

“Who’s this old lady?” One of them asked, looking like she was just twelve or thirteen.

“Judie.” I called, slipping into a mommy act, and ran to her. The girls scrambled out of my way, looking at me puzzlingly.

“Oh my God. What happened to you? Your face!” I exclaimed, touching her face. Jude was stunned, shocked, and scared at the same time. “Who dared lay their hands on my darling?” I asked, in a low, dangerous voice, and looked up at them.

They seemed to be doubting whether or not to keep acting tough.

“What did they take from you, Judie?” I asked, and Jude looked down.

“Nothing. We were playing.” She said, and I went soft, as I looked at her. How had they bullied her that she couldn’t even accept saving? She had all the money, and power she could use to trample on them. How dumb could she be to let them continuously hurt her?

“See. We did nothing, lady.” The girl who had spoken at first, said haughtily, regaining her confidence from Jude’s timid behavior, and the anger took me like a storm.

I seized her collar, dragging her roughly towards me, and her round eyes opened wide with fear.

“Wh…what are you doing?” She asked, and I squeezed.

“What did you take from her?” I asked, through clenched teeth.

“I took nothing.” She said, and I raised a hand, like I would smack her, even though I wouldn’t.

She screamed, and hastily threw out dollar notes from her pockets.

“That’s it, that’s it!” She screamed, turning out her pockets.

“If you take one step, you’re going to regret it.” I said to the other three girls who seemed like they wanted to run.

“We’re not.” They answered shakily, and I wheeled the frightened girl around to face Jude.

“Apologize before my hands come down hard on your face.” I said, and her lips trembled. She looked up at me, and realized I wasn’t joking, then quickly turned back to Jude.

“Jude, I’m sorry. Please tell her not to hurt me. I’m really sorry.” She apologized, rubbing her palms together, and I glared at the other three. They joined the frightened one, and began to apologize while glancing back like I was suddenly going to pull a gun on them.

Jude looked even more shocked, and I ordered the girls to pick up the money they stole from her. They picked it up hastily, arranged it nicely, while still glancing back at me, and gave it to Jude gently.

“If you ever touch my Judie again, I promise to break every single bone in your body.” I said, in my most menacing voice.

“Now, run!” I snapped, and they screamed, working their legs as fast as they could.

One of them fell, and screamed higher, as she jumped to her feet, looking back at me, and running like I was a kidnapper.

They were older than Sadie, but were such scaredy cats.

“Let’s go home.” I said, turning away to save Jude from her embarrassment. She walked behind me, and I retraced my steps back to the school. When we approached more students, I suddenly felt her little hand slip into mine.

I looked down at her bent head, and smiled, holding her hand tightly.

“Are you hungry?” I asked, and she looked up at me with doe eyes. She nodded slowly, and I smiled at her to instill confidence in her.

Innocent children like her who acted their age were always targets of bullies. She didn’t even know how much she had over them.

I swung her hand back and forth, looking around for a restaurant of some sort. We found a café instead, and we ordered burgers, and cappuccinos.

“Thank you.” Jude said, taking a tiny bite out of her burger.

“If there are more of those girls, tell me. I’ll punch their noses in.” I said, and she chuckled.

“Don’t you know you can be the boss? Take a look at nasty Sadie. I hate to say this, but she’s got brains that don’t suit her age. You should be bold. Whenever you meet girls like this, you should act more like them. Or if you’re still scared. Remember me. Tell them there’s someone who will punch their little faces bloody if they dared touch a hair on your head.” I said, and she gave a shy smile, holding onto her burger delicately.

“You can’t hurt kids.”

“Oh, I’ll show you I can.” I said, with a bright smile, and she laughed.

“They’ll report you, Emily.”

“Then we’ll report to Lucas, since I take it you don’t want to let your mother know?”

“Yeah. I don’t want her to know. Mum’s really nasty when she’s mad. She doesn’t know it. It makes me look bad. You know, the kid with a bad mom.”

“Aww. Maybe I can be your school mom.” I suggested, and she smiled.

“I like that.”

After eating burgers, and drinking iced cappuccinos, we went home, and Jude requested to see Lucas, as she sat gently on her chair.

“I don’t know if he’s home.” I said, looking towards the stairs. “I’ll check his room. Wait here.” I said, taking off my heels, and climbed the stairs barefooted. It felt so good to finally be off heels.

It suddenly looked ridiculous to me that I always wore heels even though I was going nowhere.

I knocked on Lucas’ door, but no reply came, and I pushed it open a little. He was there.

But he was asleep. Was I to wake him? Or not?

Well, I was trying to improve Jude’s sour mood, and he loved the kids, so maybe if I told him Jude was sad, he wouldn’t be mad at me for waking him.

I walked into the room quietly, then stopped. If he happened to see me, his first impression of me would be that of a thief. I was going to wake him anyway, so why was I trying hard to walk quietly?

I went around his bed, with the beautiful blue lights, and looked down at him.

Damn, could he be more handsome? His brown hair was scattered across his forehead, and it reminded me of the morning I first saw him. Even then, he looked like an angel. How could he look so innocent while sleeping?

I wanted to reach out and tap him gently, but I had the insane urge to just keep staring at him.

Then, I discovered something odd—My heart was thundering.
