EMILY’S POV.

“Have a seat.” Alpha Raymond said coldly, as I stood fixed to the spot. Not even Lady Genevieve was smiling. She looked like I had done something wrong.

Although I could remember her telling me that if I wanted to have an affair with Lucas, then it was a secret that had to be kept between the three of us alone. She knew that her siblings wouldn’t accept it.

I walked across the soft plush rug, and sat on a sofa that was definitely meant for me.

It managed to be opposite them all. A place where they could stare hard at me.

Mugs of tea lay on the center table between us, and a few shadows played in the room, due to all the lights not being fully turned on.

“You should stop whatever crazy thing you’re planning on doing with Lucas.” Came the chill from Alpha Raymond.

“Look. Let’s not waste our time.” Lady Mira interrupted.

“I never really wanted you in this family. I mean, why would I want you as a wife for John when there are other great ladies out there? Ladies with a better family background? I allowed it simply because John wouldn’t disallow it, but I wouldn’t let you mess with the two of them.

If Lucas tells you shit like he has feelings for you, ignore him!

You’ll be the only one getting destroyed.

I haven’t found a way to accept you yet.

Lucas will do what he wants, and he won’t listen to us, so you should be the one to adopt some sense, and push him away because I will not hear nonsense like you love him!

” She slammed her hand on the table, and I jumped.

No one said anything.

Instead, they let her continue, “As if seducing Lucas wasn’t enough with your giggles, and eye signals, you want to drive him crazy too?

Girl, you’re married. John forced you into marrying him, and I still don’t get how that happened, but the fault is none of ours.

You want to kill Lucas? You want him to depart the world suddenly and mysteriously?

As if that fear is not enough, you are watching him!

Damn, he’s taking this to court; he thinks he can free you from your marriage!

Why are you watching him play superhero instead of just dealing with the cards fate dealt you?

” She asked, looking at me like she wanted to twist my neck, and get me out of the scene.

Deal with the cards fate dealt me? I could finally see where Sadie’s ridiculous attitude came from.

She did not stop there, “Now, listen to me. You’re the one who is involved in the whole thing, so you’re the one to stop Lucas.

The court trial will cost either of them a lot.

John, Lucas, one of them will fall. Even if it’s a private trial, the people in the courtroom are people, aren’t they?

People who will look down on us. Family should have each other’s back, but Lucas wants to tear John apart!

John wants to tear Lucas apart. They used to be best of buddies until you came onto the scene.

I promise you, Waston, if anything goes wrong with Lucas, you’ll take the blame for everything. ”

After her long speech, she took in a deep breath, and leaned backwards.

“She already said everything I want to say. Does anyone have any contribution?” Alpha Will asked, and they shook their heads.

Probably for the conclusion, Alpha Raymond parted his lips to speak, “So, you heard Mira. If one thing goes awfully wrong, you take the blame. Our family has a legacy to carry on, a reputation to uphold, and you cannot come one day from nowhere, and ruin it all. We will not allow it. Get that?”

“Yes sir.” I croaked out, suddenly finding it hard to speak.

“You may leave.” Alpha Will said, and I got to my feet, walking out of the room, feeling their eyes wedge into my back.

When I got back to the mansion, the kids were there, waiting eagerly for me to disclose what their parents said.

“What did they say?” Derella asked, the moment I took my seat. “Let me guess. Mom was the one doing the ranting and the screaming? ‘There must be order.’” She mimicked. “I wonder how they knew about the court stuff so fast. Did Lucas tell them?”

“Who told you they called to talk about going to court?” Jude asked.

“It’s obvious. See it from her face.” Derel said, jabbing his hand in my direction.

“Court or no court. What did they say?” Sadie snapped, hitting her small hand on the table impatiently.

“Your mom was the one who did all the speaking.” I said quietly.

“Not our mom?” Derel asked in surprise.

“Your mom kind of knew that Lucas and I liked each other, even before we admitted it.” I replied, pushing my unfinished food away.

“She knew?” Derella’s eyes looked like they’d fall out completely if only she widened them a little more.

“Yes. It just kind of happened.” I shrugged.

“Did Aunt Mira hurt your feelings?” Jude asked quietly, looking up at me with soft eyes that seemed to be a deep brown in the light.

“A little.”

“You’re not answering the question, Emily. What did she say?” Sadie asked impatiently, and my hand clenched around my spoon. Her mom was rude, she was also rude. It was none of her business whatever they said.

Then, I took in a deep breath, and released the spoon.

Sadie was like that from the start. I didn’t need to get mad because her mom hurt my feelings.

“They want me to stop Lucas. They don’t want him going to court, or I’ll take the blame if anything happens to him.” I said, leaning backwards in my chair.

“Typical of them to threaten.” Derel murmured.

“You’re not listening to them, are you?” Jude asked.

“I should have never even thought about accepting it in the first place.” I lamented, slapping my forehead.

“Wait, what? Are you crazy? You’re going to listen to them, and stay stuck with John forever?” Sadie asked.

“I guess. Staying here would be better than in a prison.” I replied.

“Don’t do anything. Go ahead with the trial.

Do what’s best for your life. Don’t regret it later on.

Even if you asked, Lucas wouldn’t stop. They know they can’t stop him, and that’s why they thought they’d make you try.

Unfortunately, Lucas seemed pretty set to go to court when I saw him, so don’t you bother trying to convince him.

After all, it’s private. What can you lose?

Don’t mind my mom. She just doesn’t want it, so she’s trying to scare you out.

None of them would lose anything if they failed.

The only outcome of it all will be whether or not you stay with John.

” Sadie replied, and she was quite right.

“Although, I’m sure you know you’ll still be John’s, even after divorce, right?” Jude chipped in, and I nodded.

“Yeah.”

That night, I conversed with Lucas, over the issue, although I didn’t tell him what his siblings told me.

I kept that to myself.

“You’re quiet.” He said to me, as he lay on the bed next to me.

“Just a little nervous. What happens if we fail?” I asked.

“We try again, and keep trying till we win.”

I chuckled, “You say it like it’s so easy.”

“It will be. Just don’t buckle, bend or break for anything. We’ll win this thing. Are you ready to sleep now?” He asked, and I nodded, adjusting my head on the pillow.

“Goodnight.”

“Sweet dreams.” He said, and kissed me on my forehead, before leaving the room. When he did, I felt around the bed for my Taser, and clutched it to my chest.

And for a long time, I lay awake. Long enough to hear my phone chime in the middle of the night.

I picked it, and blinked at the brightness of the screen. There was a message there, and it wasn’t from Lucas like I had hoped it would.

It was from John.
