Page 174 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
I slipped in the tub, and nearly hit my head, but I struggled to get to my feet. Pushing away everything in my way. I stood on tiptoes, getting to the top. Straining to see. He was no longer there, but I knew he was the one. I wasn’t mistaken.
That face was one I had longed to see for months. I had roamed the streets, hoping to catch sight of that face, so why wouldn’t I recognize it even if I saw it for a second?
My heart came alive in that moment, beating the way it hadn’t in years. I had thought my heart dead, and unable to spring alive again, but I was wrong.
Jumping down from the bathtub, I dashed out of the toilet, running towards the door. My heart pounded crazily, just by seeing that face. It was no dream!
It was real! Lucas had really come back. He had come for me. I pulled at the doorknob, but it was still locked, and I began to hit it, even though I was sure no one would hear.
I pounded on the door hard with my everything, and even pulled the door knob foolishly.
“Lucas! Lucas!!” I called, breathing heavily, as I kept on banging the door.
I bent, tucking my hair impatiently behind my ear, as I tried to see from under. “I’m here! I saw you! Hey, I saw you already!” I cried, as tears fell from my eyes.
I sniffed, wiping my eyes, as I ran to my bedside lamp, taking it, and hitting the door severally. It wasn’t until some minutes later that I heard footsteps.
“Lucas.” I called, desperately, breathing hard. The key turned in the lock, and I stepped back as the door flew open.
“Shush.” Landon said, as he closed the door. I stepped backwards, trying to run, but there was nowhere to run. Rebal caught me, and pulled me.
“Please, I beg you! Please, he’s right there. He’s downstairs. He’s waiting for me. Honestly, I’ll reward you. Just let me see him. Please, I beg you!” My cries grew more desperate as Landon produced a large strip of cloth.
Holding me down ruthlessly, they gagged me, so I couldn’t make proper noise. My screams were muffled, and they ushered me to the window. I was lifted onto it, and I gave a muffled scream.
The height! The height would kill me.
The men pushed me without delay, and I felt the wind blow at my clothes, as gravity pulled me down to the wicked clutches of the ground.
However, men in black suits appeared, and caught me.
We all fell, and I tried to escape, and crawl, but my legs were way too wobbly from the fall.
Before I could make it a feet away, they had dragged me back.
“It’s Alpha John’s orders, please cooperate.” One of the men scolded, as I was dragged away from the mansion. I fought like a beast, pulling, scratching, pushing, shaking, and trying to get out of their grasp, but their grasp was iron, clamping me down fiercely.
I was pushed into the car, where more men held me down,
They couldn’t do that to me. No! Not when I was so close. The car began to move, and all I could do was spread my hand on the windows, and cry as we drove out.
“Stop! Stop, please,” I cried, in my muffled tone, bouncing in my position, crying like a kid. I tried screaming again, as I hit the windows hard.
Again, my heart was breaking. Just like the day Lucas had been taken from me. He was there. He was in the house. I was so sure of it. I had seen it. It wasn’t a dream. It was real.
My heart ached with the longing to see him. The desire to call out. For him to hold me. I wanted to see him burst out of the mansion, and run to me, save me from the ruthless men.
I continued crying, even after the mansion was no longer in sight.
Lucas will do something. He will find me. He will save me. There was no way he’d fall for John’s tricks anymore. He had come for me, so of course, he wouldn’t let me be taken away just like that.
Lucas would come for me. I wiped my tears, dwelling on the thought. There was no way he’d leave me be. No, he wouldn’t.
“Alpha John’s calling.” One of the men said, and Landon picked the call.
“Alpha John.” Landon called.
“…”
Landon glanced at me.
“Are you sure?”
“…”
“Alright, sir.” He said, and ended the call. “Turn the car around.”
“What? Just like that?” Rebal asked.
“Alpha John’s orders.” Landon said, and it felt like fireworks were bursting in my chest.
“Wait. What if he means it ironically, and doesn’t actually want us to turn the car around? Maybe he wants us to pretend we are rebelling against him?” One of the men holding me down said.
“Alpha John is in serious trouble this time, and if we’re not careful, we wouldn’t be exempted. Turn the car. We were given a countdown.” Landon said, and Rebal glanced at me, before turning around, even while on the road.
Drivers complained, screaming at them, but Rebal sped away.
Going home to Lucas. Tears rolled down my eyes. Finally…
Finally, I was going to meet him.
After a year…
I closed my eyes, and began to cry afresh.
“Why’s she crying again? Isn’t this what she wants?” Another man in the backseat with me asked, clearly irritated.
“You’ll never understand ladies. Right now, you should hope she’ll choose to let you just go scot-free. She’s the lover of John’s terrifying Uncle.” Rebal replied.
“What? Oh, jeez…” The man exclaimed in shock.
When we got back to the mansion, it was so hard to wait for the car to stop.
I ran out, without taking off the gag. Before anything else happened, I wanted to see him. Hold him, touch him, hug him.
I burst through the doors of the foyer; I didn’t even need to take a step further. He was there in the darker part of the living room—the first living room.
And then, he turned, and saw me.
