Page 71 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Fear seized my heart, and it seemed iced water was washed down my chest. It was the end. Was I going to be blackmailed by her too? Was this the end?
What would happen if the family found out I had slept with Lucas? Already, none of them seemed to like to see me with Lucas.
“What are you doing eavesdropping on us?” I shot at her, and she raised her brows.
“Eavesdropping? Was there something I wasn’t supposed to hear? I only came to make sure you were sleeping well.” She said, looking at us cluelessly.
“Why would you do that? You didn’t do that yesterday, or the day before.” Sadie pointed out.
“Tonight was a little intense for Emily. She was stuck with John and was probably boiling inside. I only came to see.” She said, feigning innocence, but to me, that was bullshit.
I couldn’t hope she hadn’t heard anymore.
“If you have heard something, just spit it out. This doesn’t suit you.” I said, wanting to get it over with immediately, rather than anticipating if she would tell or not, and if she knew or not.
“Heard what? Now I’m curious.” She said, folding her arms, and looking at me with interest.
“Just spit it out, Mandy.” Sadie said.
“You tell me. What did I hear?” Mandy asked. “So this means you both have a secret you’re keeping from everyone. I’m quite curious. So, tell me. What is it you both are keepi…?” Sadie slammed the door in her face, and went back to the bed, leaving me shocked.
“Hey.” I whispered fiercely, turning around to stare at her.
“That way, we’d know if she heard or not. If anyone hates walking on eggshells, it’s me. Just wait and see. She’ll spill whatever she has heard.” She said, tucking herself underneath my covers.
“You’re staying here? We’re not on good terms. I’m still mad.”
“Let’s just say we made up already. I’m tired, and disgusted by things happening.” She said, and honestly, I was too tired to argue any longer.
All through the night, I bit my nails, staring at the ceiling with my foot moving restlessly.
Could she have heard? Was she just trying to draw it out from us?
What would she do with the information if she had heard it?
The next day, I knocked at Lucas’ door, but no reply came. I had looked around the house, and he was nowhere to be found.
I pushed the door open gingerly, and walked into his beautiful room.
The little golden lights around his bed were on, and an image of me sleeping on it in his arms suddenly flashed in my head, and I hit myself on impulse.
“You must be crazy.” I said, and just then, the door to his bathroom opened, and he came out in a towel around his waist, and it seemed like I was stuck in time.
Water dripping. Glistening skin. Wet hair around sexy green eyes. Strong arm running a smaller towel through the wet hair.
His lips… ridiculously wet and pink.
“Emily?” He called, and I jumped a little.
“I think Mandy knows I was pregnant for you.” I blurted out, and he dropped the smaller towel.
“What?”
“Sadie followed you to the hospital that day.”
“Can you look at me when you say that, and explain properly?” He asked, and I realized my eyes had been on his sculpted abs.
“Oh. I mean… She skipped school, and saw you buying fruits for me. She followed you, overheard us, and wanted to blackmail me with it last night, then Mandy walked in. She’s playing clueless, but I doubt that’s the case.” I said, looking up into his ridiculously, distracting handsome face.
“Sadie.” Lucas said, and he seemed angry for a moment.
“But you don’t have to say anything to Sadie.” I said, surprising myself. Sadie was definitely going to be hurt if Lucas reprimanded her, and funny enough, I felt it didn’t need to go that far.
“I should. She’s stepping out of line.”
“We already fought yesterday. She doesn’t need to feel worse than she already feels.” I said, even though I left her eating a bag of chips, and laughing her head off at a cartoon character.
“She feels bad?” He asked, with sarcasm in his voice.
“Yes, she does.”
“Well, let Mandy go ahead. Don’t give in to whatever threat she gives. Don’t do a thing.”
“What? I shouldn’t do a thing? I’m dead meat if anyone finds out. You’re safe because you’re a Granger, but I’m not. No one likes me here.”
“Don’t do a thing. Just trust me.” He said, going to his wardrobe. I sensed he wanted to dress, so I turned around and left.
“Don’t do a thing? You must be kidding me.” I said immediately I left, and went down the stairs to the kitchen.
Mandy was there, breathing hard, looking like she was angry, and when she looked at me, her eyes were a flashing blue.
She slammed a kitchen towel on the counter, and her eyes changed to their normal color before she left the kitchen.
“You’re kidding me.” I said, throwing open the fridge, and taking out canned coffee.
As I drank, Katie came in also looking angry, and I knew immediately that they had fought.
Probably over Lucas.
Later when we were having breakfast. Mandy was wearing a cropped top with her white breasts looking like they had no place in the cropped top. Her bumper shorts were also way too short.
It was obviously because of Lucas. John, Lucas, Katie, Sadie, and I sat as she served us.
“Hey.” Sadie said smiling, looking past me. There was shy Jude.
“Good morning everyone.” She greeted, and gave Lucas a high five, before seating with Sadie who began chatting away.
“Lucas, can you pass me the…” Mandy was saying, but was cut short when Lucas raised a brow.
“I believe you’re missing something.” He said, and she swallowed.
“Alpha Lucas. Can you pass me the salt?”
“Find someone else.” He replied, spooning scrambled eggs into his mouth.
“Don’t you think you should be nicer to me? I mean, we could become people who keep each other’s secrets later on.” Mandy said, and Sadie and I shared a quick glance.
“You think I’m ever going to be interested in someone like you? Dream on, and when you’re done, go back to the scum you belong in.” He said, and Mandy looked scathed.
She forced a tight smile, and forgot about the salt. She didn’t say anything. Only that her eyes spoke too many words.
Katie, on the other hand, seemed pleased.
“Do you need the fork?” Katie asked, observing Lucas looking around for one.
“Yeah, I guess.” He replied, softly, and Katie beamed, as she passed a fork to him.
Mandy scoffed lightly, and shot me a glare.
Lucas left first, followed by John and Katie.
“Let’s talk.” Mandy said, when Jude and Sadie stood up to leave for school.
“Tell me whatever trash she says.” Sadie said, leaving with Jude.
Mandy sat next to me, and ran a hand through her hair.
“Alright, let’s stop playing dumb. I know the damn thing you did with Lucas.” She said, and I swallowed. “I think I’m ready to play. Let me be another Sadie to you. That’s what she’s also doing, isn’t it?”
“So what?”
“You know how to get drunk?”
“What?”
“I can be real childish, and dangerous, Emily. Post a drunk video on your Instagram account, and tag the Elders. Lady Genevieve, Alpha Raymond, I’m saying everybody.”
“What?”
“You know what happens if you don’t. Your pregnancy news goes flying.” She said, and left me sitting there, staring into blank space.
I was knee-deep in trouble.
