Page 151 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
LUCAS’ POV.
I took my hand off him, and took quick steps backwards.
John was breathing hard with terror alive in his eyes, and my sight cleared. He was John again, not a bloodied corpse.
“You’re right. I spiked your drink! What are you going to do about it? You can’t even get angry anymore, else you’ll kill someone! I dare you. Get mad. Kill me! Come on! Do it!” He screamed at me, and my claws sunk into the flesh of my palm.
He laughed out loud, and rubbed his neck.
“You’re a monster now, Lucas. Tell me. How does it feel? Feel good?”
“Where is the cure?” I asked, advancing on him.
“Murder someone. That’s the cure.” He laughed again, although I could still see the fear in his eyes.
“John.”
“There’s no cure. It has mixed with your blood. It’s there. Every time you feel something, it’s going to be triggered. Like a poison you can’t get rid of. You can try being a murderer. I’m sure Emily will still stay with you, even though you become one.” He said, backing away, and I let him leave.
I watched him go, simply because I was holding back. If I took so much as a single step, it would be a run. A run, aiming to get to him, and tear him apart.

EMILY’S POV.
Ever since the day Lucas had shifted uncontrollably in front of me, he had begun to avoid me like the plague. For three straight days, he didn’t talk to me. My calls never went through; he was never at breakfast, lunch or dinner. His room door was always locked, with loud music blaring from within.
John also didn’t say a word to me, and I wondered if he had truly spiked Lucas’ drink. I couldn’t just pounce on him, without knowing if he was guilty or not.
Finally, I saw him at night, and he was just getting out of his car.
Running to him, I called.
“Lucas!”
He knew he could no longer avoid me, and stood still, watching me.
I came to a halt, breathlessly, and held his arm.
“Why are you avoiding me?” I asked.
“For now. Just until I find out what’s wrong. Let’s just not meet. Look, Will is coming this way. I think he wants to talk to me.”
“I won’t leave, until you answer my questions. It’s been a whole three days. You’re scaring me. What exactly happened?”
“Just like you thought, John spiked my drink.”
“What?” I asked in shock.
“It’s something that once triggered, it sends mixed signals to my brain, and makes my wolf think I’m in danger. It’s hard to control. If I make a single move, it breaks free. I almost killed John, Emily. I don’t want a story, where it happens to you.”
“John did that to you?” I asked, with a glare not intended for him, “and you let him be? There has to be an antidote.”
“He says there’s none.”
“He’s lying.” I spat.
“Lucas, Emily.” Alpha Will called, and I blinked back tears of anger.
“Good evening, Alpha Will. I was just about leaving.” I said, bowing.
Turning away, I stormed back towards the house, making for John’s room.
I pushed his door open, without knocking, and he sat at his desk, with documents as usual.
When he saw me, he smiled, and closed the documents, getting to his feet.
“When last did you look so fierce and beautiful?”
“How dare you spike Lucas’ drink?”
“Oh! You’re just figuring that out?” He asked, and laughed.
“What?” I asked, in an almost whisper, enraged at his audacity.
“I’m an expert when it comes to spiking drinks. Shouldn’t you have figured that out by now? I mean, it’s no secret.” He chuckled.
“How dare you? Why would you go that far? He could kill someone!”
“That’s why you should stay away from him.
Lucas should be locked up right now. It’s not just you who’s endangered.
Everyone around him is. The slightest provocation, and he’ll shift, and harm whoever’s in sight.
His employees are definitely the ones in the most danger.
What happens when stocks fall, contracts are lost? ”
“Did you really have to go that far?”
“Then you should have stayed with me. You know I never lose, yet you filed for divorce. Do you know how happy I was when we got married? You just shattered all that.”
“In what universe do you love like this, John? I thought you’d want the happiness of your loved one.”
“Be happy with me! Me, alone.”
“Selfish.” I spat.
“If you want me to stop what I’m doing to Lucas, then come back to me, and this time, do things right. Love me.”
“Stop what you’re ‘doing’ to Lucas? Shouldn’t it be what you ‘did’ to Lucas?” I asked.
“What I’m ‘doing’.” He corrected.
“How come? He’s not accepting anything from you anymore!”
He scoffed, “In every meal he eats, the drug is present.”
“How dare you! You’ve been poisoning him with it!”
“I believe he’s been served dinner by now.”
“Lucas is outside talking with Alpha Will.”
“Is he? Are you sure they’re not talking over dinner? Eating something fast, something sweet, something easy to gobble down? I told Will earlier that Lucas hasn’t been eating well, and he’s to force him to have dinner.”
With that, I left, dashing down the hall, and nearly skidding down the stairs.
In the dining, there were dishes with half-eaten burrata pizza pies.
“Who… who had this?” I asked, breathing hard, looking at the maid, packing the dishes, with my eyes ready to pop.
“Alpha Lucas, and Alpha Will.” She replied, and I looked at the plates.
“Damn it!” I spat, and turned around, racing up the stairs.
Lucas was about going into his room when I saw him.
“Lucas!” I called, and he stopped.
I ran to him, breathing hard, and stumbled against the railing.
“Careful.” Lucas said, coming to me, looking down at the living room below.
“Don’t… from now on, don’t eat.” I replied, trying to catch my breath.
“Don’t eat? I just had dinner.”
“I know… Every meal you eat, John has laced it with the drug. He’s feeding you with it everyday… he’s… he’s going to make the drug a part of you. You keep taking it in every time you eat.”
“What?” He asked, and rage flashed in his eyes. “Damn him!” He hit his fist on the raining, and in a flash, I recalled John’s words.
At the slightest bit of provocation, he would lose it.
“I ought to just break…” He was saying, with force, when he suddenly growled loud, and deep.
His eyes flashed red, and they turned to me.
I froze in shock, barely breathing.
A few maids came up the stairs, and I turned to them.
“Get back!” I ordered, and Lucas took my hand, pulling me to him.
I screamed, despite not wanting to, and his hand squeezed my neck.
Struggling, my legs dangled, as he raised me high. Looking into his blazing red eyes was dreadful. I felt fear swallow me whole.
Hitting him, and trying to scratch at his face, I only aggravated him more, and blood trickled down my neck, as his claws sunk into them.
Then he dropped me, only to raise me again, ready to plunge me down, over the railing.
Down to a sure death.
