Page 177 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
LUCAS’ POV.
My eyes widened as Emily fell against me.
“Emily!” I held her belly, which was bleeding, and took off my coat. It seemed to be a little too big to tie around her securely, but I wrapped it around her tightly. She coughed, and blood spilled down her mouth, dribbling down her chin.
Her whole face was contorted in pain, twisting as she groaned. Her bloodied hand held on to my white shirt, and she squeezed, trying to hold on.
“I got you… I got you….” I said, still trying to stop the bleeding.
My heart was racing, and cold sweat rolled down the side of my face. John had actually done it. He had dared to shoot Emily.
“It’s… it’s not my fault. You made me shoot her.” John said, in a terrified voice. “You did. You did, Lucas. You killed her. You should have just left…”
“Agh…” Emily groaned.
“I’ll call the ambulance. I’ll call them. Just let’s stop this bleeding. It’s too much.” I said, terrified, in a trembling voice.
If Emily happened to leave me. I didn’t think I’d be able to take it. Life would lose meaning, and everything would….
I heard a thud, and saw John’s gun had dropped to the floor.
“You should have just left us alone.” His terrified eyes stayed fixed on Emily, and I knew he was trying to convince his pathetic self that he did nothing wrong.
Finally, I lost it, and stormed over to him. He made to run, but I wasn’t about to let him go scot-free. I grabbed him, and pushed him to the floor. My claws protracted, but I bunched them into fists, and hit his face repeatedly.
My fist came down heavy and fast, repeatedly. For making her cry, for daring to hit her, for laying his dirty hand on her, for assaulting her sexually, for making her life hell!
John’s face was a bloodied mess, and it wasn’t until I was pulled back from him that I stopped.
He groaned, and lay on the floor, too weak to move.
“Emily, she… Deal with John. Let me take her.” I said, getting up.
My plan had been to arrest John, and take Emily with me, so I had called the cops, telling them to be on standby. They had probably heard the gunshot sound, and had rushed in.
“Now I can take you. John can’t go anywhere.” I said, lifting Emily, but one of the men took her from me.
“We’ll need you to give your statement, and your evidence. Me and my men will take her to the hospital.” He said, and I watched him rush out with Emily.
At the door, he was met with my siblings.
“Lucas!” Mira screamed, and ran to hug me. I staggered backwards, upon her weight, and she held my cheeks. She took in hasty breaths, trying not to cry, but eventually, her tears came cascading down her cheeks.
She hit me over and over, and I hugged her, while keeping my eyes trained on John who was being handcuffed.
Will hugged me and Mira together, and closed his eyes. Genevieve joined, with tears flowing down, and lastly Raymond embraced us all.
“I’m sorry…” Raymond said.
“For what?” I asked.
“Not raising my son well.” He replied, and I hugged them tighter.
“I missed you all.” I withdrew from them, and looked at their tired faces. “I’ll need you guys to stay with Emily. Ensure she’s okay. Please? I’ll handle John.” I said, and they nodded.
Before I left, Mira held my hand, and looked deeply into my eyes. She didn’t need to say a word. Her eyes said it all.
I missed you.
I love you.
Come back safely.
I’m waiting.
I followed the men to the station, and gave them a little recorder.
“I recorded our whole conversation, John. This will pair well with the countless assault videos. You have doomed yourself.” I told him, and he looked at me with swollen eyes, and a bloated lip.
“Did you have to do this?” He asked, his voice raw with pain.
“Waste some of your years in prison, and come back as a new creature. Even if no one will accept you, Raymond will. You have done enough.” With that, I left him, and made my way out of the station.
All that was left was for Emily to be fine, and the dream that had kept me going the whole time would become a reality.
When I got to the hospital, my family was waiting for me,
Mira had me sit next to her, and held my hand.
“We have a lot to talk about.” Genevieve said.
“How did you make it out?” Raymond asked.
“We should ask him all that later. Right now, he’s worried about Emily, so I don’t think he will have much to say.” Will told them, and I was grateful for it, as my mind was still on Emily, who I didn’t know if she was doing fine or not.
“You must have had it rough.” Mira said, and I turned to her.
“Sweet doesn’t suit you.” I said, with a little smile, and my words forced a little chuckle out of her.
“Lucas. Can’t you tell I’ve missed you? Don’t you think it’s unfair when you tell me stuff like that? Of course, I’m going to be sweet to you.” She said, and knocked my head lightly.
“The kids will be so happy. Wait till they return from school. They shouldn’t be long. I already told them you’re home.” Genevieve said, looking at her watch.
Shortly, a doctor came out, not looking too happy.
I got to my feet immediately.
“Doctor.”
“Are you the guardian of the young woman who was rushed in earlier?”
“Yes, yes, I am.”
“It’s not looking good. The bullet went way too deep and lodged itself in her liver, putting her in more risk. She also lost too much blood.”
“So…?” I asked.
“We have done what we can. The rest is up to her. Whether she will heal, or is beyond healing. If she lasts the night, then we can be assured of her safety.”
“If?” I asked.
He replied, “If. “
