Page 90 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Katie looked like she’d been hit by a ball flying through the air.
She stared at Derella speechlessly, unable to say a word. She had probably never expected to hear something like that.
“I know it’s weird, and you never expected this, but I’m sorry.
This is who I am, and you’re who I like.
Actually, I…. I don’t want to cause you some inconvenience because I know you don’t like me, but I just thought I had to say it out.
If I want to be at peace with myself, then you should know I’ve always been soft for you.
” Derella said, staring into Katie’s face, searching out the unspoken words.
“You. Not Derel?”
“I’m gay. Remember?”
“Oh.”
“I know you’re flustered, but this is just to get it off my chest. It’s been bothering me for a while now, and I really needed to say something.” Derella said, placing her hands behind her back, and dealing harshly with her fingers.
“Thanks. I don’t know what to say. Am… am I saying the wrong thing? I’m… I’m really sorry. I had no idea, and… I guess I should thank you for telling me, but… I… I’m not gay.” Katie said, and I could see her fingers wrapped tightly around the strap of her bag.
She was really nervous.
“I know that.” Derella’s gaze fell painfully to the ground.
“But I’m sure there’s someone way better than me that would like you too. You’re a prize, Derella, and only someone worthy should get you. It’s really brave of you to say this, and trust me, I know how it feels when your feelings aren’t reciprocated. Don’t let this weigh you down, okay?”
“Okay.” Derella said, still looking at the ground.
“It’s late. I should get going.” She said, and patted Derella’s shoulder, before turning and walking away.
Derella watched her go, and when Katie was out of sight, she walked into Lucas’ mansion. We followed carefully, trying not to make a sound, but we were caught in the hall because she stood there in the dark, and we didn’t notice.
“I knew you guys were there. I sensed your presence.” She said, walking out of the dark into the lit up foyer. We followed her into the living room; she sat on the sofa, and stared Into blank space.
“How do you feel?” Sadie asked her.
“Pained, sad, unhappy.” Derella replied.
“It’s completely fine. Katie also got rejected today.” I said.
“By whom?”
“Lucas.”
“Whoa! Lucas rejected her?”
“Yes, he did.” I replied.
She sighed, “This really hurts more than I expected, but I guess I’m glad it’s out of the way.” She said, leaning back into the sofa.
“You’ll be fine. I promised to introduce you to a friend, didn’t I? You’ll meet her soon.” Sadie said, with a smile, and Derella got to her feet.
“Will be looking forward to that. Well, thanks guys. I guess it’s goodnight for me.” She said, heading out the living room.
“Goodnight, Emily.” Sadie said, leaving my presence. I went to the kitchen to get myself water before tumbling into bed, and met Lucas in the kitchen, making pasta.
“Hey.” He said.
“Hey.” I returned with a smile, opening the fridge slowly. I had originally intended to take water, but I found myself reading the names of all the drinks in it.
“Looking for something to drink?”
“Yeah. I’m thirsty, and I don’t want water.” I heard myself say. Then I took out a can of cola, and closed the fridge. “Did you know Derella was gay before Mandy busted her?” I asked, leaning against the fridge and opening the tab.
“Yeah. I didn’t let her know I was aware of her being gay. I wanted her to tell me herself.” He replied, and I nodded slowly, before raising the can to my lips.
“Do you want some pasta?” He asked.
“I don’t think I’ll take that offer. Dinner was a little too much.” I replied, with a smile. “but it smells delicious.”
“Unlike you, I didn’t stuff my dinner down my throat because I was angry. I barely had enough.” He said, and I laughed.
“I didn’t stuff it down. I just ate it enjoyably.” I replied, and watched him turn the pasta in the pan expertly. “Okay, you know what? I think I’m up for some pasta.” I said, making him chuckle, as I kept my eyes on the reddish beauty bringing out hot steam.

The next morning, I turned and tossed in bed, as the sun hit my face. I didn’t want to wake yet. I was having an enjoyable dream, except that as I turned and tossed, the dream which previously made sense, gradually began to make no sense.
In the end, I opened my eyes, and glanced at the alarm clock.
“It’s ten already?” I asked myself, as I sat up, rubbing my eye.
That was an advantage of being an in-house secretary. I could wake whenever I wanted, and do whatever I wanted, as long as I finished my work for the day.
Pasta with Lucas had been really enjoyable. The pasta was delicious, and worthy of being served in a restaurant, and having to watch him while he spoke was an eye candy.
I took my bath, and dressed in a white shirt and black skirt, preparing to get my day started.
I walked across the halls to John’s office, but ran into Katie on the way. She handed me some files, and I checked them out.
“Does John really need these things or he’s just trying hard to find something for me to do?” I asked her, and she shrugged.
“Go and ask him yourself.”
“Of course, I can’t do that. I’m not his right-hand man.”
“And it’s not my duty to see to it that you get to do important work all the time, is it?” She asked, folding her arms, and I wondered why she was being so thorny.
“Alright. I’ll just keep doing these pointless work then.” I said, then made to go.
“I have something to ask you.” She said, and I stopped.
“What’s that?”
“Do you like Lucas?”
