Page 156 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
I hit the door severally, crying and wishing someone would just open it, and tell me Lucas had returned. Seeing him zapped with that Taser seemed to bring all my dreams crashing down.
My heart was blown off into a thousand pieces, and lay at my feet. I couldn’t pick or piece them together. It felt like my heart was not pumping blood, but pain. It hurt with each beat.
Finally, I was sinking down. I was sinking deep beneath the ocean of depression that I ought to have entered from the moment John broke up with me. Lucas had been the one to show up, and save me from it. He was gone, and I was finally left all alone—all alone to face John.
Already my palm had turned pink, but I still hit the door, hoping I’d disturb him enough for him to hear, even though I knew he wouldn’t hear a thing.
When my palm was all swollen, I ran to my window, swallowing my tears, and telling myself I’ll find Lucas.
I pushed back my curtains, and opened the window. Night had fallen already. I had cried the whole evening away.
Harsh wind hit my face, sending my hair flying across it, distorting my view, but even with my view distorted, I could see that it wouldn’t be a jump, but a fall to death. The ground was way too far, and there wasn’t a tree around that could break my fall.
The ground stayed harsh, and unsmiling, promising me a body full of broken bones if I dared. The mere thought of jumping over made my heart pound in fear. Finally, giving up, and sitting at the ledge, I began to cry, raising my knees to my chest, and leaning my head on it.
My hair came falling down my shoulders, and it was at the moment, the only source of warmth against the harsh wind. At that rate, the combination of an headache, and an heart rate would likely kill me, before John did.
That night, I slept at my door, not minding the cold floor, as I awaited Lucas. Hoping he’d come with the key, open the door, and promise never to leave me anymore.
By morning, my jeans were soaked with tears shed overnight. How sleep had found me, I had no idea.
My eyes opened heavily, blinking around. How I wished it had all been a nasty dream, but the dirt on my jeans from where I had fallen was still there.
The furry, and long cream jacket was still soiled with dirt, along with the white shirt I wore within.
“Emily.” I heard Sadie call from the door, and I sat straight immediately.
“Sadie, what about Lucas?” I asked, plastering my ears to the door, like doing that will help give the good news I desired.
“He’s still gone. Mom says everyone will try to talk to John.
Just don’t get scared. We’re going to come and help you out.
Lucas will return too, and when he comes, he’ll kick John’s butt.
” She replied, but her voice lacked the fierceness it always had.
It was soft, and pained, and I could tell I wasn’t the only one aching for Lucas.
I was just the one who was going to suffer the most.
“What do I do now, Sadie?”
“Uncle Raymond, and Uncle Will say they’ll try talking to him. Just hold on. Wait the whole thing out. I won’t be able to come see you because he’s banned me and the rest from entering, but somehow, I’ll manage to get to you.”
“He banned you guys?”
“Lots of strange men came this morning. They guarded the house, and I only sneaked in when Mom came to see John. Later on, I’ll try to find a way to…”
“Sadie!” John’s harsh voice rang out, and I heard her gasp. “What the hell are you doing in my mansion? I thought I said it was off-limits. The next time I see you here…” He cut his words, and I heard her scream, before her little feet skidded away hastily.
“John!” I called, rising to my feet, as I heard her scream. “What did you do to her?” I asked, and heard the lock turn.
Stepping back immediately, I braced myself with a stony expression. He pushed the door open, and came in.
“Still in yesterday’s dirty clothes, uh?
Change into something else. There are people you have to meet.
” He said, looking at me with a smile. “You cried the whole night, but I guess it’s a good thing.
They made your eyes all the more beautiful.
Those dark pupils are sparkling. Hurry up.
Change, and I’ll open the door for you.” He said, stepping back and locking it again.
“Hit the door hard when you’re done.” He added, and I raced to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, and setting the water running.
Packing my hair over my head, I dumped the shower cap over it. It was my chance to escape. I was yet to know how I’d do it, but I was definitely going to find a way to escape. Nothing would stop me. I would find my way around it. Then, I’d find Lucas.
After bathing, I didn’t waste my time in searching for clothes. I simply snagged a large white T-shirt, with a image of a black and white cube in front, and light blue denim shorts.
Looking at my swollen hand, I picked up a shoe, and hit the door as loud as I could.
Then I stepped back and waited. Shortly, I heard John returning, and he opened the door.
“Great. You look better.” He said to me, and I stepped out, walking quickly across the halls. I thought about running, but knew he would have no difficulty in catching me.
Down the stairs, there were lots of men in black suits.
“Say Hello to the only woman fated for me.” John’s voice came from behind, and the men all got to their feet, and bowed.
Among them were the two personal assistants he had hired after Katie, and they looked at me with smiles that definitely had different meanings.
John sat, and began to discuss security issues with them, but little did I realize that the reason he let me roam around freely was because all the doors were barred. Large heavy locks coming down from them. Even the windows were sealed shut.
I thought of every door or window I knew that led out of the house safely, but they were all locked. No escape for me.
“There you are.” John said, when I had gotten to my last resort, which was the library window.
I turned around quickly, and he advanced on me. Stepping back quickly, I stumbled, and he took my hand.
“You’re going with me.” He said, pulling me along. I tried hard to fight, wanting desperately to keep on searching, to keep on thinking of a way to escape, but he wouldn’t let go of his grip.
Eventually, he led me back to my room, and pushed me in. I fell, and my hair scattered over my face. He bent, and tucked it behind my ear, then raised my chin, so my eyes could meet his.
“I suddenly had a new thought.” He said, raising me up by my shoulders, and I stared at him with cold fury burning in my eyes.
Still holding me, he walked backwards, and turned the lock in the door, placing the keys in his pockets.
My mind ran wild with different thoughts, and he backed me into the wall.
“We never had a honeymoon, did we?”
