Page 131 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Instant fear filled me. What had we done? Why did we do it without thinking? The previous night had been so fast-paced that we had forgotten all about the deep bond me and John shared. We had only been thinking of each other’s pain and longing.
I personally, had longed for it, and stopping Lucas would have been easier than stopping myself.
Lucas raised a hand to his heart.
“You’re right. I should be dead.” He said, staring into space, confused.
“You should? It’s not a gradual death stuff?” I asked, and hit his shoulder. Just to be sure he was in front of me, and I hadn’t imagined the whole thing, after going crazy.
“Ow! Do you think I’m a ghost or what? That’s so cliché. A ghost returning to his lover.” He said.
“You could as well be. But, wait. We… we signed it with each other’s blood. How come you’re not dead?” I asked, wanting to be sure I wasn’t going to suddenly lose him along the line, and also wanting to know if we didn’t have to stay away from each other.
“You mean you want me dead?” He asked, pointing to his face.
“No, I mean, it means we can go on, right?”
I sighed. “I don’t know. I’ll have to check it out.” He said, still looking confused.
“Are you sure you’re not dying slowly? You don’t feel pain anywhere?” I asked, touching his chest, and abs.
“No. It’s an immediate death. That’s why a remedy was never found. Because the people involved with the bound wolf died immediately.” He replied, and I exhaled in relief.
“Really?”
“Yes. But… this is weird. I actually feel fine. Maybe because John and I are related by blood? Maybe it recognizes the blood alone?”
“Oh my. That’s true!” I said, with a clap. “In most of the stories, the bound woman or man never sleeps with relatives. It’s always a random wolf, or a noble knight they fell in love with. Or some other charming Alpha. It’s never a relative.” I said immediately.
What if it really recognized blood alone? After all, we used our blood to sign everything. I bound myself with John’s blood, and the same blood flowed through Lucas’ veins. They were family.
“Wow. I think we just discovered something important.” He said, looking like he was considering being a scientist.
“Too bad we can’t test it to be sure.” I said, and his eyes went wide.
“Will? Raymond?”
“No!” I laughed, hitting him lightly. “I never meant to be the test subject.”
“I got scared for a while.” He said, and I laughed.
“Ah, the morning is so good.”
“You should be glad I have my things with me.” He said, getting to his feet. He walked to his luggage, where he had abandoned it the previous night, and brought it to me.
“Woah, change of clothes.” I said, happily as he knelt and opened it.
I would do anything to take off the dress. It limited my movement.
“Anyone would spot you easily in that dress. Then they’ll wonder why the bride is still in her dress. You should have something more casual.” He said, and I picked out a yellow hoodie, and white shorts.
“Turn around.” I said, and he raised a brow. “Oh come on. I know last night happened, but just turn around.” I said, feeling embarrassed, and he laughed, then turned around, checking out clothes for himself.
Honestly, the previous night felt like a blur. Everything had just happened so fast.
I changed into his clothes comfortably, folding the waist line of his trousers multiple times, so it could fit me.
Then we left Lady Mira’s garden.
No one noticed us even though the feast was happening in front of the Raymond mansion. They were all too busy eating and drinking.
Lucas and I walked in, and went to his room, where we both arranged his things.
“When I came here searching for you, gosh, my heart was breaking. I felt like I was in trouble if you left just like that.” I said, arranging things in his drawer.
“And when I dropped your lotion, it felt like my heart had been ground into powder.” He said, and I laughed.
“How could you dare to leave that behind?”
“How about we write a list of things we wish to do? Places we wish to go. It’s Spring.”
“Oh yeah! Spring! Oh my, I have a lot of things in mind. Hmm, let me see. Going to the beach, seeing the cherry trees, going on a cruise, going to a concert…”
“Write those down. We’ll do it all.” He said, and I smiled, taking out a notepad.
“I have number one ready, and number two, and number three.” I said, with a nasty smile.
“What are they?” He asked, checking them out, and he smiled. “You’re a naughty girl. They’re all the same thing.” He said, poking me gently in the forehead with his finger.
“No, they’re not. Number one: Go to bed. Number two: Take off clothes, Number three: Revisit last night. See, they’re completely different things.” I said, and he laughed. “So, when are we ticking off number one?” I asked, looking at him sweetly.
“Now.” He said, and I happily went to the bed.
“Number two?”
“Hmm. Now?” He asked, coming to me, and I kissed him.
We made love again, and the third time was the best of all the times we had made love. Maybe because we weren’t strangers, nor were we panicked lovers who didn’t want to be torn apart.
When I woke up, I saw thirty-eight missed calls from John, and smiled, before turning off my phone.
“John called. We have to be extra careful.” I said, as me and Lucas dressed up for the beach. We left the house, careful not to run into anyone, and we took the back gate, sneaking out of it, by climbing over it.
Strangely, it felt like skipping school, and it also felt like another life. Being with John back then in school had felt limited. I was limited to being the shy, sweet girl, but with Lucas, it was different.
I didn’t like him at first, so I could show other sides of me, and those other sides of me had made me free and wild. So I didn’t have to try so hard when I was with him.
Because unlike John, he didn’t like the sweet girl, he liked me. Just me, and all I had to offer.
He ordered a cab, and we got in, driving to the beach. Immediately I got there, I ran towards the waves, screaming.
“I’m on top of the world! I’ve been rescued from the ugly prince!” I screamed, and Lucas laughed.
“You’re so childish.” He said, still smiling.
“I’ll be childish all I want. I’m Anna and you saved me from Hans. I’m Rapunzel and you saved me from the witch.”
“And who are those?”
“Gosh, Disney! You’re so boring, Lucas.” I said, laughing.
“Oh yeah, then who’ll save you from me?” He asked, and I deliberately ran into the water, and got my wish of us playing in it, with abandon. Laughing, and daring the water to sweep us away as we waded deeper into it.
“Wait a sec.” He said, and suddenly left. When he returned, he was smiling from ear to ear.
“What’s that?” I asked, tucking my wind-blown hair behind my ear, as he held something behind him.
“A surprise.” He said, coming closer to me. I blushed, barely able to wait to see what it was. It was his first gift to me as couples.
“Close your eyes.” He said, and I placed a hand over my eyes to prevent my yielding to temptation.
“Open.” He said, and I took my hand off. There, in a box, sitting gently on his palm, was a beautiful ring, and I gasped.
It was identical to the ring John had given me, but had a little gold around the edges, making it a hundred times better than John’s.
Immediately, I took off John’s ring from my finger, and threw it as far as it could go into the water.
Then I held out my hand to him, and he smiled.
“I hope you like it.” He said, putting the ring on my finger. It was a perfect fit.
“You’re kidding. I love it. It’s so beautiful. Gosh, look at how pretty it is on my finger. It was made for me. I’m never going to take it off.” I said, looking at the ring.
“If we find a way to get married, and I don’t die, I’ll give you a better one.” He said, and I smiled.
“You won’t die. I won’t let you.” I replied, planting a quick kiss on his lips. “Also, then I’ll just wear two rings on my fingers.” I said, and he laughed.
Together, we spent the day, talking and laughing, being at peace with each other.
We ordered breakfast, and Lunch there, not getting tired of each other in the slightest. And in the evening, we watched the sunset dip beautifully in the horizon.
Watching the sunset alone was not really effective, but watching with someone else made it a whole different thing.
It marked the most beautiful moment in my life.
The time I felt loved, a time I felt content, and a time I felt at peace— forgetting about whatever bad event the world had in store for me.
How quickly the hours had passed by without us knowing.
I wasn’t going to be sorry about being in an affair.
No.
Not when I had been cheated into marriage.
I was going to love Lucas with my all.
