Page 48 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
I was so shocked to discover my heart beating crazily that I subconsciously placed my hand on it. Why was it beating that fast?
Just because he was handsome? Emily, tap him! Touch him! Wake him! You can’t just keep staring at him like that. What if he suddenly wakes, and finds you staring at him?
How would you explain that?
I wanted to shake myself out of the strange fantasy he had put me in. I didn’t want to stare at him, but really, it was all I wanted to do. His white sweatshirt made him look even more desirable for some reason, and I had the insane urge to push his hair out of his face.
Why would a person be as handsome as that? Then, my eyes fell on his lips, and I confirmed that it wasn’t just a drunken desire to kiss him again.
What if Sadie suddenly pushed the door open, and saw me staring at him like that?
The thought of that seemed to jar me to my senses, and I tapped him gently. He stirred, and turned away from me.
I took a deep breath. He had taken that enchanting face away. Now, the spell is broken.
“Alpha Lucas.” I called softly.
“What?” He asked, like he was exhausted.
“Jude wants to see you. She’s in a really sour mood, and…”
“Jude?” He asked, turning to me, and I nodded. “Do you know what happened to her?” He asked, sitting up.
I didn’t know how confidential Jude wanted me to be about her being bullied, so I shook my head.
“She didn’t say much.” I said, and he swung his legs out of bed.
“Then what took you so long to wake me?” He asked, ruffling his hair, and my insides froze.
“What took me what?” I asked, swallowing continuously.
“I felt your presence the second you entered my room, but you took an oddly long time to wake me.” He said, opening the door, and walking out, and for a moment, I was speechless.
“Uh… um, I… I didn’t know how to wake you, and whether or not I was to wake you.” I said, following him out, and closing his door gently. He leaned over on the mezzanine, and looked down at Jude.
She looked up and he waved.
“Hey there.” He said, sweetly, and Jude smiled widely.
Lucas walked towards the stairs, with his hands in his pockets; I really wanted to think he was less shitty than John, but just because children loved him didn’t mean he wasn’t like John when it came to women.
John had taught me a great lesson about how well men could pretend.
Just then, Derella walked in with Katie, and Derel trudged in after them.
“Please, I need something cold.” Derella said to the maids.
“Good afternoon, Alpha Lucas.” Katie said, and Derel took her to sit on the sofa Jude and Lucas shared.
“Good afternoon, Katie.” Lucas returned, and Derel began to speak rapidly to her.
I couldn’t help but notice Sadie was the only missing one.
Kaye brought drinks with icecubes in them, and I went to assist her since they were too much. I gave one to Jude, Katie, then Derella, who was sitting on the sofa opposite Lucas, Jude, Derel and Katie.
She took the drink without even looking at me, and I could see a loving smile as she stared at Lucas.
I was baffled. The smile on her face was definitely one that was given to someone from a person who adored them. Did she like Lucas? Oh no, their family was tangled.
I sat next to Derella, and tried to say something even though I knew it was none of my business.
“Derella.” I called, and she shook like she was caught doing something bad. She turned to me, and cleared her throat.
“What?”
“It’s… it’s actually not my place to say, but… what you’re doing is not healthy.” I said, and she furrowed her brows in confusion.
“What I’m doing? What am I doing?”
“You should say it if you like someone you ought not to like. That way, they can tell you how they feel, and you can move on quickly. A one-sided love is not… it’s not good.” I said, and she went as red as apples.
“What?” She tried to scoff, but I had seen it all on her face. “What are you saying? Who… who says I like someone?” She protested, and I took a deep breath.
“It shows on your face. If you like him, just tell him, so you can move on and try to forget about it.”
“Him?” She asked, looking at me like she hadn’t heard me well.
“Yeah. I know you like Lucas, and honestly, it’s not my place to say anything about it, but liking your Uncle isn’t healthy at all.” I said, and her cheeks became even redder.
“Lucas?” She whispered, then shook her hands. “No.” She said, and looked at Lucas. “No, no way. Gosh.” She was totally flustered but was still trying to deny it.
Already, Katie liked him, and he was a huge jerk. What if he was willing to sleep with his niece???
Okay, that was harsh, but wait, looks aren’t it all, and men who were ridiculously handsome like Lucas were the worst men within.
“You don’t believe me?” Derella asked, looking troubled. “Why would I like my Uncle? It’s totally weird. I’m not insane. He’s like… older than me for… like thirteen years. Why should I have a crush on him?”
“I’ve heard of girls crushing on singers who were twenty before they were born.” I said and her mouth fell.
“No.”
“I know it seems harmless. It’s just a stupid crush that girls have… He’s handsome. He’s cool, he’s this, he’s that, but… the world ain’t black and white. He’s your Uncle, but he’s a man first…”
“Eww!” Derella squealed, and everyone turned to look at her.
When they had turned back to whatever they were doing, she turned to me.
“Okay, you’re creepy. Do you really think Lucas is a pervert? Why would you think that? Also, I’m really serious. I can’t like Lucas. He’s my damn Uncle.” She said, looking even more flustered.
“You were staring at him with a loving gaze.”
“No.”
“It’s not my place to say, but…”
“Gosh, damn it! It’s Katie. It’s Katie, okay?” She snapped in a whisper… and my brows knitted in more confusion.
“Why would it be Katie? That was a lover’s gaze. I’m trying to keep you from…”
“Why can’t it be Katie?” She asked, suddenly turning serious, and ohh, my insides turned cold.
“Uh?”
“I like girls.”
