Page 132 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle

LUCAS’ POV.

Unbelievably, Emily and I stayed up the night. We watched several movies, and talked about the stars splayed across the midnight blue sky.

When the air became colder with the night, we cuddled, and talked about every and anything. It felt like we were somewhere else; The breeze, the warm sand, the roaring waters, the moon and stars watching, and shedding their warm lights over us.

It was at dawn that we finally left the beach, heading back to the mansion.

“What’s your favorite season?” She asked me, putting her hand out of the car.

“Spring.” I answered.

“Really?”

“My preferences change with time, but right now, I think I’m in love with spring.” I replied, glancing at her.

“I guess everyone loves Spring. The blooming flowers, trees growing new leaves, warmer weather.” She said, still looking out the window.

“What’s your favorite season?” I asked.

“Autumn.” She replied, without skipping a beat.

“Autumn?”

“Rain, autumn leaves, chilly breeze. It gives me the feeling of sitting in front of the fire with a loved one, while it pours outside.” She replied, and I smiled. “You like spring because of me, right?” She suddenly asked, with a brow raised.

“Why do you think so?”

“You just said your preferences change, and it probably did because we got together in Spring.” She said, making me chuckle.

“What if I say you’re wrong?” I asked, smiling.

“I’m wrong?” She asked, with her eyes going wide.

“You’re not.” I said, and she chuckled.

“You’re something else, seriously.”

When we got home, I escorted her to her room, just to be sure she didn’t encounter any difficulties. After that, I went to my room.

I slept for just a little while, and awoke late in the morning.

After a long bath, I dressed up and went over to the Raymond mansion, where no doubt my siblings would be gathered. They’d probably have had breakfast together about fifteen minutes ago. If I hurried, I would still catch them.

Striding across the lawn, I caught sight of Sadie and Jude playing dodgeball.

“Lucas!” Sadie called, in a shrill voice, jumping and waving. She ran towards me, and Jude followed.

She jumped against me, and I staggered heavily.

“You’re back?” She asked, with wide eyes.

“I never left.”

“I was telling her your things were back in your room. She wouldn’t believe me. She didn’t even want to check.” Jude said, breathing hard.

“I’m no longer leaving, Sadie. I’m here to stay.” I replied, and she threw her little arms around me. Jude did the same, and I hugged them. “I’ll see you guys later, okay? I have to catch your parents before they leave.” I said, withdrawing from them, and Jude nodded.

“You can leave, but I’m still mad. You’ll have to pacify me.” Sadie said, with a pout, folding her arms.

“Trust me, I will.” I said.

“Then, me too.” Jude added, and I laughed.

“Alright, alright, I’ll definitely pacify the both of you. Very soon.” I promised, backing away, and they smiled.

Mira was about leaving when I showed up in Raymond’s foyer.

“Lucas!” She called, walking quickly to me. I was expecting a hug, but got a huge slap on my shoulder instead. “How could you scare us like that? You’re no longer leaving, right?” She asked, and worry played in her eyes.

“No, I’m not. Are the rest still inside?” I asked her.

“Yes, we just had breakfast.” She said, turning around, and I went with her. The rest of my siblings were still at the dining table having dessert.

“Lucas.” Genevieve called breathily, getting to her feet.

“Lucas.” Will also called.

“I came to tell you that I’m not leaving. Not anymore.”

“What made you change your mind?” Raymond asked, tapping a seat. I walked towards the chair, and sat. Mira sat next to me, looking at me intently.

“A lot of things actually. But that shouldn’t be what matters, right? What actually matters is I’m no longer leaving like you guys wanted.” I replied.

“You made a good choice.” Raymond said, with a smile.

“Then what do you plan on doing?” Will asked, and I looked at him. “Do you plan on keeping, hiding, showing, or working on your feelings for Emily?” Everyone seemed to pay extra attention waiting for my reply, and I flashed them an easy smile.

“I will pick what’s best for me.” I said, getting to my feet. “There’s somewhere I have to be, right now. Pardon me.” I informed them.

“As long as you’re back, and you play things safe. That’s enough for me.” Genevieve said, getting up from her seat,“Boy, you gave me such a scare.” She added, looking like she would throw something on me.

“Whatever you do, Lucas. Play it safe.” Will advised, and I nodded.

“I will.”

After meeting with them, I went to Tray’s house. He had seemed quite broken when he heard I was leaving. Even though I tended to give him a lot of work, he loved having me around. After all, we were the best of friends.

He was cooking in the kitchen when I walked in, and he rushed out, probably wondering who had put in his passcode when it was just us two who knew it.

“Good God.” He exclaimed, relieved. Then, he dropped the ladle in his hand onto the sofa, and approached me. “You’re no longer leaving?” He asked cautiously.

“No. I’m staying.”

“Damn you.” He exclaimed, suddenly landing a punch on my chest.

“Ow! Is that how you greet a friend?”

“The friend who gave me such a scare two nights ago.” He said, pushing me, and I pushed him back. Like that, we turned it into a play fight.

“Had breakfast yet?” He asked, smiling.

“I’m with Emily.” I said, and it took him about a minute to break down my words.

“Dude, you’re crazy? She signed the Alpha Marriage with John. You’ll die if you try shit with her.” He said, looking at me like I had suddenly decided to burn my hands to a crisp.

“We already slept together.”

“What?” He asked, coming closer. “You did what?”

“We slept with each other, but as you can see, I’m fine.” I said, and he touched me.

“Are you sure? You’re really sure?”

“Completely sure. Can you look into it? Emily and I are guessing it’s because John and I share the same blood, but I just want to be sure.”

“I heard you. I’ll do some research. Although it might take some time.”

“Thanks, man.” I replied.

On my way back to the house, I saw a toy stand, and a light pink teddy bear caught my eye. Sadie would love it. Jude would also love it. The both of them had an uncanny love for stuffed toys. Well, maybe it was uncanny for Jude, but Sadie could still be called a kid, so it was natural.

I got down from the car, and purchased two of the toys. The coat was soft, and fluffy. It would definitely be a good sleeping partner for them.

Getting into my car, I drove back home. Jude and Sadie were no longer playing dodgeball, so I decided to check Sadie’s room.

“Come in.” Her little voice came when I knocked.

I came in with my hands behind my back. She was with a pink laptop, placed on her lap.

“Where’s Jude?” I asked, looking around.

“She went to get us more snacks. We’re watching movies. What’s that behind your back?”

“Something the both of you would like. It’s my pacification.” I said, and she smiled.

“Let’s see.” She replied, placing the laptop aside. She got up, and walked towards me. “What’s it?”

“Surprise.” I said, holding out the bears, and immediately, her expression turned into one of horror; she fell to the ground.

Her jaw fell, and she began to drag herself backwards.

“Sadie, what’s the matter?” I asked, with my eyes darting between her and the toys.

“Bears, bears…” She cried, holding her head. She raised her knees to her chest, and began to scream, as her eyes darted left and right in their sockets. “Take it away!” She screamed, and I threw away the bears.

She was hallucinating again, and this time, it seemed worse.

To her, I was a bear, and she was going crazy. I couldn’t even assure her she was seeing things because each move of mine freaked her out.

Suddenly, she got up, and raced for the open window.

“Sadie!” I shouted, but it was too late.

She jumped.
