Page 95 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
LUCAS’ POV.
I wondered what Lady Genevieve had to say to Emily, but it couldn’t have been anything bad. After all, she had been the one to discover her, and call for help.
Raymond had insisted it wasn’t thanks to her, but instead, it was thanks to him who had told Emily to find her. Had it been someone like Mandy, she could have left Lady Genevieve there. Emily had a choice to open the door after knocking, and she also had a choice to leave, and search elsewhere.
“Did you come with Emily?” John asked me, as I made to leave.
“Why do you ask?” I asked, and he gave a scoff.
“Mere curiosity.”
“No.”
“You didn’t come with her?” He asked.
He continued, “Why do you always stay close to her? I mean, you guys are always together most of the time. What’s going on between you both?” He asked me.
“I thought we were over this.” I said, pressing the button of the elevator.
“No, we aren’t. Emily is my—We’re not married at the moment, or dating, but I believe she will come back to me. But if she keeps flocking around you, then she won’t bother returning to me.” He said, and I scoffed.
“Are you actually making her wish to return to you? By sleeping around? If she checks your phone, who will the first ten numbers on your call log belong to?” I asked, and the way he clamped his teeth, confirmed my suspicion.
Of course, they would belong to ladies—ladies he slept with frequently.
He didn’t follow me out of the elevator when we got to the bottom floor, and I appreciated it. I didn’t need his nagging company.
As I stepped out of the elevator, I bumped into Derel.
“Oh, great. You’re just in time. You didn’t happen to see Derella, did you?” He asked me.
“Nope. We missed each other.”
“Great, let’s go.” He said, grabbing my wrist.
“Go—Where?” I asked, refusing to budge.
“Wherever you’re going.” He replied, and I finally moved, walking next to him.
“Do you even know where I’m going?” I asked.
“Nope. I’m just going to go with you.”
“Your mother just came out of surgery. You don’t want to see her? She’s awake.” I pointed out.
“I know that, but I don’t want to see her.”
“Why? Did she offend you? Even if she did, she’s not feeling too well.”
“Exactly. I don’t want to see her looking sick, weak, and frail. I’d prefer not to see her. Derella’s enough. You’re my excuse not to see her.” He said, and I smiled.
Genevieve was always strong, so I guess it made sense that he didn’t want to see his strong role model in a weak state.
“I’m going to the company.” I said, digging my hands in my pockets.
“That’s fine by me.” He replied.
We got to the company shortly, and Tray was ecstatic to see him.
“Hey boy! How you doing?” He asked, as they showed off a quite unique handshake.
“I’m doing good. You? How’s work?”
“Great. How’s school?”
“Not so great. Can’t wait to graduate.” He replied, and they laughed.
“You came right on time. The girls have been waiting for ages. They’re ready for their testing.” He said, and I sighed.
“I forgot about that. How about we postpone it?”
“No, that’s impossible. They’re prepared. Let’s get it over with quickly. Once that’s done, we don’t have to go over it again.” He said, and I nodded, sitting on my sofa.
“Do your thing. I’ll be looking around.” Derel said, walking out the door.
“Don’t leave the company without me.” I called after him, and shortly, the ladies entered, with a few of our employees.
They all wore jean jumpers, and sat on the floor, with their legs folded inwards.
The cameras, lighting, and recording instruments were all set, and they waited for me and Tray to conduct our little test.
Makeup products were placed on little tables in front of them, and they looked at it with different expressions. Some already knew what it was for, and the rest looked lost.
“Advertise it.” I said, “In five seconds.”
“Start.” Tray said, with a stop watch.
“Hi, I’m Keith. Do you know you can be prettier? Let’s not talk too much. Let’s act with LadyFlair.” She said, with a bright smile, as she applied foundation onto her face.
Quite good.
“Sandra here. Is your skin too pale, too dry, lips chapped? Join the world of beauty with LadyFlair.” Sandra said, ending at exactly five seconds.
“Want a skin like mine? Try LadyFlair.” Mina, the quiet one said.
“Aren’t you tired of waiting for the boys to go Gaga?” Judy winked, “Join me.” She said, holding the makeup products in front of her, with a bright smile.
“True beauty exists with LadyFlair. The first fifty are free.” Paris said, sweetly, and I smiled.
“Try LadyFlair and throw away your regrets.” Tenor said, throwing her hands in the air.
“Beautiful, confident, majestic…all these come in various packages that only LadyFlair can give.” Jenny the last of them said, and the shooting ended.
“Good work. Sorry to keep you waiting. You’ll get your feedback tomorrow.” Tray said to them, as they got to their feet, smiling. When they all had gone, I sighed.
“Let’s drop two of them.” I said.
“No, they’re all good. They used five seconds to say meaningful things.”
“I still get an odd feeling around them.”
“That will sort itself, Lucas. Let’s not lose any of them. And have you forgotten they signed the contract? Do you want to withdraw it or what?” He asked, and I sighed again.
“Alright. Pack up, let’s go home. It’s been a busy day. I’ll find Derel.” I said, getting to my feet. I took out my phone, and dialed his number.
“Going home already?” He asked me, after he picked the call.
“Yeah.”
“I’m on the fourth floor.” He said, and I ended the call.
I waited at the ground floor for Derel for minutes, but he didn’t come down, and he wasn’t picking his calls. Then I decided to check on him.
I took the elevator, only to find that he and Tenor, one of the influencers were together.
I was about to advance towards them, when Derel turned from her, but she grabbed his hand. Did they know each other?
“Don’t walk out on me, Derel.” She said, loudly, taking off her brightly colored jacket slight. “You can’t avoid me. You can’t run from me. We must date.”
Date??
