Page 57 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
I was in front of the family members, seated in that same seat with Alpha Romeo and his family also seated.
In front of me was my plate of steak with my puke all over it, splattered on the meat, veggies, the table, and into Sadie’s mug.
Everyone was utterly disgusted with me.
“I went to the doctor and found out you were pregnant.” Sadie said, looking at me with contempt, and I looked up to find Lucas, but he wasn’t there.
Derella grabbed a tissue, and handed it to me.
“Wipe your mouth. It’s disgusting.” She said, and I took the napkin from her and wiped the puke that stained my lips, and a line of it that dribbled down my chin.
“You’re pregnant. John said he has always used protection when sleeping with you, so where is the baby from? Whose is it?” Lady Genevieve asked, with her forehead creased in a deep frown.
My fingers intertwined themselves restlessly, and I couldn’t stop swallowing, and blinking, while my lips were robbed of all speech.
“Answer this instant!” Alpha Raymond shouted, bringing down his palm on the table, and I jumped along with the plate, cutlery, and glasses.
“Alp…Alpha Lucas’.” I replied, with my words trembling like I was being shaken by the shoulders.
“What?” Alpha Will asked.
“Before we officially met…”
“It is not my baby.” I heard Lucas say, coming in from the door, wiping his hands with a napkin.
I stared dumbfounded at him, feeling the sweat roll down the side of my face.
“I never slept with you, did I? I never stooped so low as to sleep with someone like you.” He added icily, and motioned with his hand. Someone came in, and it was a man in drabby grey clothes.
“Tell me who that lady is?”
“My… my sex mate.” The man said, with restless eyes, and I shot up from my seat, only to open my eyes, and start breathing hard.
I sat up, and felt the sweat dribble down my face and neck. My pillow, and nightclothes were soaked, and I was breathing hard.
What would happen if Lucas did that?
A hand alighted on my belly, and I began to weep.
What was I to do? What would I do when such a predicament was upon me?
How was I going to escape it?
When I finally calmed down, I got down from my bed, and pulled back the curtains, letting air flow around me. After that, I left my room to the kitchen. Everywhere was dark, and it felt like my body was an old creaking machine.
Why was I so exhausted?
As I poured myself a cup of water, I recalled the outing. It had just been lunch really.
I had been so scared after I gagged, and honestly, I gagged a few more times, but thankfully, or maybe hopefully, no one noticed.
It would devastate me if someone like Sadie asked why I was gagging.
I drank greedily, and returned the cup before making my way to my room.
Climbing was harder than descending. It seemed to me like I was nine months gone already. My bones were weak and sore.
I was convinced that something else had to be wrong with me. Why did I feel so weak and tired? Pregnant women always felt sick, yes, but was it always as early as mine? And did they feel as weak as I did?
I had to momentarily stop at every third staircase, and take in deep breaths.
When I got to my room, I called Dahlia, seeing it was four in the morning.
Dahlia always woke up at five out of pure habit. She’d work and cook, and finish around ten in the morning because she never rushed herself to work.
She worked like she had all the time in the world.
“Good morning, Dahlia. Did I wake you?” I asked, taking off my clothes, and taking care that I didn’t accidentally fling my phone away.
“Yes, you did, and thanks for that. I think I would have slept in.” She yawned, and I could see her stretching in my mind’s eye.
“Oh, thanks for picking up.”
“What’s the matter?” She asked.
“I really just wanted to hear your voice.” I replied, making my way to the bathroom.
“Are you sad again?” She asked, and I bit my lip.
“A little. I had a terrifying dream about Lucas. He lied that he didn’t sleep with me, and even framed me up with someone else who claimed I was his sex mate.” I said to her, while running the water.
“Oh, Emily. That was just a dream.”
“That’s likely to happen.” I completed.
“No. It’s just your fears. Is Alpha Lucas really that bad? I’ve heard of his reputation with women, but he shouldn’t be that cruel. He doesn’t look it.” She said, but stopped. She also knew what she was saying was wrong.
“John still doesn’t look like the wicked type, and sometimes, it’s hard to believe it’s the same John I used to know. Lucas might as well be the same.”
“Just be patient, Emily. Whatever happens, I’m with you.” She consoled me, and I stepped into the bathtub.
Dahlia and I talked until the sun was up, and I remained in the water feeling more comfortable in it than in my bed. When our call ended, I stepped out of the water, dried myself, changed into pajamas, and jumped on the bed.
It was too late to sleep, but I was going to anyway. I didn’t have any dreams, which was quite weird, but it was fine.
I preferred having no dreams to having crazy dreams that seemed too real, and like they would actually happen in reality.
When I woke up, it was a few minutes after ten, and I stretched. I had expected to wake in the afternoon, so I was a little disappointed.
Sluggishly, I got up from my bed, and took another bath, even though I was still feeling clean.
I dressed in joggers, and a large top, intending to use my time properly. Katie wasn’t around. There was just an air around whenever she was in the house.
The large house felt almost empty.
I walked towards the stairs, and felt I could be recovering from that extreme weakness I had felt when I woke up in the early hours of the morning.
However, when I got to the top of the stairs. I noticed someone watching me through the side of my eye— Lucas.
Was he going to approach me?
Suddenly, I gagged, and my hand flew to my mouth as terror filled me. If he saw me gagging, he could easily guess something was wrong.
As I saw him move, I hastily proceeded to go down the stairs, and unfortunately missed my step; with a shriek, I tumbled down.
My ankle gave a horrible pain, followed by my wrists, as my hands tried to block the fall. I rolled helplessly, trying my best to scream for help.
My head hit stair after stair, and I thought I was going to die. I felt an intense pain somewhere, but it felt like my senses were lost, and I couldn’t tell where I felt pained.
I hit the floor, and the last thing I saw was Lucas at the top of the stairs before I gave way to blankness.
