Page 102 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
“What’s wrong? You can’t concentrate?” My temporary partner asked, when she saw me rubbing my forehead continuously. “Or you have an headache?” She asked, placing a hand over my forehead.
“No. It’s fine.” I replied, with a smile, and she withdrew her hand. I went back to sorting out documents, and tried to concentrate. What on earth did John mean by a three-day trip? Just the two of us?
My God, that will be uncomfortable, and hellish. What would we do when we were alone? Listening to him talk alone was suffocating.
“This won’t do.” I muttered, getting to my feet. I hurried over to the restroom, and pulled out my phone, after ensuring no one was in there.
“Dahlia?” I called, when she picked the call.
“Emily. I’ve been meaning to call after the pictures of you and Lucas blew over the internet. I have just been really busy.” She said, and I gave a little smile. Calling her didn’t feel enough anymore. I missed seeing her.
“I really want to see you. Talking to you puts me at ease.”
“What’s the matter this time around?” She asked.
“John wants us to go on a three-day trip. Just the three of us. Who knows what he’s planning? What would I be doing with him for three days? Where would we go? Where would we sleep? Talking to him alone is suffocating! And annoying!” I poured out, breathing hard, and Dahlia sighed.
“Well, all we have to do is pray for three days to go by quickly.”
“You know three days will never go by quickly. Let’s say Lucas and I went on a trip, then three days is no biggie, but me and John? Three days will feel like three months!” I exclaimed.
“And you have no idea what he wants the trip for?”
“Probably to make me feel miserable. He and his secretary were exposed recently, and I had a hand in it. Maybe he wants revenge.”
“Exposed?”
“Yes, everyone knows he was cheating and that we’re no longer engaged.”
“Thank goodness. You should be really careful. He might hold a grudge.”
“Exactly what I’m thinking he’s doing.” I said, in spite, and just then, someone walked into the restroom.
“Will talk to you later, Dahlia.” I said, quickly ending the call. I couldn’t have someone overhearing our conversation, and suspecting things. I greeted the lady, and walked out.
During Lunch, I was just as distracted. I couldn’t wrap my head around how awkward, and annoying it would be. We would have to be together like glue for three days. It was all I could think of, and a frown fixed itself on my face.
“How do you find the Lettuce wraps?” My partner asked, dropping her food tray on the table, and sat in front of me.
“They’re great.” I said, looking down at my untouched lunch.
“Thai lettuce wraps. I can’t get enough of them when they’re for lunch.” She said, biting into hers.
“They’re delicious.” I said, taking a bite.
“Oh, before I forget, you live with Alpha Lucas too, right?”
“Yes.”
“Oh my God. You’re like the main character of a romance movie. You’ve got Mr. Granger by your side, and handsome Alpha Lucas living with you two. Doesn’t he own a house?”
“We live at his house.” I said, feeling a little defensive.
“Oh my God. Are you guys close?”
“I guess not everyone heard the rumors.” I murmured. I thought everyone knew about the rumors of us dating.
“Yeah?”
“Yes, we’re close. We talk.”
“Oh my! He came by the company very early this morning, and jeez, I fell for him at first sight. When those green eyes look into yours, what do you feel?” She asked, and I laughed.
“Special.”
“Oh my God! He’s so handsome, and the way he walked in like the whole world was his.
He had a pretty handsome P. A too. If I could manage to snag the P.
A, I’d be content. Even his P. A had that mysterious, bad boy aura.
” She said in a rush, holding her spoon—which ought to have gone into her soup minutes ago—uprightly against her lips.
“You’re talking about Tray, I guess.”
“Tray? First name?” She asked, and I realized I didn’t know his last name.
“No, no, I’ve never met him, but Lucas calls him Tray.”
“Lucas!?” She asked.
“Ah, I mean… I can’t be his friend, and call him Alpha Lucas, can I? It makes things awkward.” I said, blushing. I didn’t know it could be that fun to show off our friendship.
“Okay, wait. I heard from everyone around me that he’s really arrogant, and can’t stand women.”
“No, that’s only women who throw themselves at him.” I corrected. “I didn’t throw myself at him.”
“Because you’re engaged.” She said, chuckling, and I rolled my eyes, smiling.
“Not really. I was a little scared of him.”
“Oh, you see! That’s because some say he’s rude, uncaring, and a little monstrous.”
“No. Monstrous, my foot. How can Lucas and monstrous be put together? You know in this present age, you can get queried for showing off your claws, and all if you’re not training, right?
Most people lose their temper, and reveal the beasts in them, but I’ve never…
not for once, seen the shape of his claws. ”
“Woah? He’s that good?”
“Not even John can manage his anger that well.”
“Oh gosh, tell me what I can do to be a live-in secretary.” She wailed.
“Get married to one of them.” I chuckled.
“That’s impossible!” She cried out. “Alpha Lucas will…” she stopped. “Right, you said he’s not arrogant.”
“When you get to know him, you find that he has a sweet side. He also likes to tease. If he were friends with you, he’d notice those new pair of earrings.” I said, and she touched her ears.
“I got these this morning.” She said, smiling in awe, as she didn’t expect me of all people to notice.
“Then he’d ask: Who were you thinking of when you got this?” I asked in a deep voice, and she turned red, then we both burst out laughing.
“Okay, okay, that is so good. I wish I knew him personally. Such a bowl of handsomeness in front of me, teasing me like that… oh my God. I’ll never leave the friendship.” She said, and I shook my head at how dramatic she was.
“I’m really envious though.” She said.
“Of what?”
“Not what. Who.”
“Who?”
“You. You get to have relationships with the two most famous Grangers. Girls drool over them. Especially the high school girls. They don’t know their place. It’s seriously like a movie. The female lead is lovers with the first male lead, and friends with the second male lead.”
“Twist. The female lead and male lead are actually pretending to be lovers, and hate each other.” I said, with my eyebrows raised.
Her eyes turned into apples.
“That’s a blockbuster story line!”
“What’s blockbuster in it?” I asked, chuckling.
Just then, we heard people oohing, aahing, and clapping.
We turned only to see John approaching us with his hands behind his back. What made them ooh and aah, upon seeing ‘just John’?
They all looked envious, and on the verge of breaking out with ‘aww!’ but I couldn’t see anything special in John walking slowly to me like he was shooting a movie as Romeo.
He came to stand directly in front of me, and took out his hands from behind his back, presenting a really large bouquet of pretty red roses to me, and the whole place burst into applause.
Then, he smiled.
Damn him.
