Page 89 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle

EMILY’S POV.

I wanted to hit myself if I could, but of course, I couldn’t. Maybe a written apology the next morning would do. I didn’t want him thinking I was taking his friendship for granted.

I got to my room lazily, and opened the door feeling like shit, only to scream, as I saw Lucas sitting on my bed, with his legs crossed.

I looked behind me, like I would be able to see him sitting at the dining. What was he doing there? Who was the person I left at dinner?

“Lucas?”

“Do you think it’s a ghost?”

“I… I left you at dinner.”

“Oh, I took the other way, and raced you to your room.” He said, and my cheeks flushed. I could feel the mean, nasty girls in me ready to resume the fight.

Gosh, why won’t they rest? They should just stop! I didn’t want to fight, I only wanted answers because my brain wouldn’t stop coming up with nasty answers of its own.

“Oh.”

“Are you jealous?” He asked, and my eyes opened wide.

“J…jealous? Why would you say that? Why would I be jealous? There’s no way I can be jealous. Of who? Who am I jealous of? Why would I be jealous? There’s nothing to be jealous of.”

“You saw Katie kiss me, right?” He said, with a smile.

Why was he smiling?

“Me?” I asked, prepared to lie. “Wait, wasn’t that the both of you? It was Katie alone?” I asked, blowing my cover.

I bit my lip hard.

Just keep your damn mouth shut, Emily, I chided myself.

“So you saw.”

“Well, I didn’t say anything about it.”

“You were jealous all day, seeking for an explanation no one gave, and was cranky to everyone. Am I right?”

“No, you’re completely wrong. I wasn’t jealous. I was having a bad day.”

“A bad day because you saw that?” He asked smiling.

“No. You really like misunderstanding people. If you like her, you can be with her. I never said anything.”

“You want me to say I don’t like her.” He said, chuckling.

“What’s so funny in this? I’m just a little possessive of my male friends. That’s all. You don’t have to make it some kind of big deal.” I said, blushing furiously.

“Katie kissed me this morning.”

“I already know. Why telling me?” I asked in a low voice.

“She kissed me this morning, and said again that she liked me, and couldn’t help herself. I was a little shocked, and didn’t expect it. So, I was a little dumbfounded, but I told her.”

“Told her what?” I asked, moving to lean against my wardrobe.

“I told her I had no feelings for her, and that I didn’t think it would be wise for her to wait. I said it would be better if she tried to forget it, and that I probably like someone else.” He explained, and my cheeks felt hot.

Who? That meant he liked someone, right? Who was that? Me? No, don’t get too ahead of yourself. He’s not crazy enough to like his Nephew’s almost-wife.

“That was cruel. You gave her a bad day.” I said slowly.

“You were crueler, and gave her a worse day, by making her feel uncomfortable, and bad. She’d have been more hurt.”

“Don’t make me feel guilty. If she comes tomorrow, I’ll say something to her.” I said, and he smiled.

“That will be nice. So, that’s it for me. I need some sleep.” He said, getting up, and leaving.

When he did, I squeezed my lips, but that didn’t stop them from giving way into a smile.

He didn’t like her.

He liked someone else.

That isn’t you, Emily! I needed to snap myself out of whatever daydream I was falling into. I would get my heartbroken twice. Also, I didn’t have feelings for Lucas, so if he asked me out, I would have to say No.

Wait, would you really say no? I asked myself, and bit my lip hard. I looked out the window, and saw Sadie moving towards the garden.

Oh yeah, I had really been a jerk to her too.

I left my room, and made my way to the garden. She was sitting alone, and I knew she would be angry.

“Sadie.” I called, and she looked up.

“We now have nothing to do with each other. Don’t talk to me, and I won’t talk to you.”

“We… we can still be friends.”

“No. I don’t want to be friends with you.”

“Sadie.” I called, moving closer to her.

“Don’t come close! I’ll bite.”

“Alright then, would you miss on a grand opportunity to blackmail me? I’m going to give you one.”

“Emily, you should…”

“I saw Katie kiss Lucas, and got really mad, and cranky with everyone because I didn’t want him to like Katie. You have me now. You can tell everyone of my obsession with a friend if I don’t do what you say. They’ll kick me out. They’re only looking for one slight thing that’ll prove to them I like Lucas, so they’ll get angry and ask how I dared to like my ex’s uncle. Then they’ll push me out. I just gave a dangerous secret.” I said, and I saw her hide a little smile.

“Well… you’re a fool. A huge one.”

“I know that.”

“Don’t think I’m not going to use it.”

“I’ll do what you say.” I said, even though I was aware I was pushing myself into further doom.

“You’ll participate in my matchmaking.”

“Of course.” I replied.

“Alright. We’re back as Boss and errand man.” She said, getting up, and bouncing off, and I bit my lip.

Did she just became more annoying with her words?

“Wait. Don’t just go.” I said, going after her. She didn’t stop walking quickly, not until we got to the pool side, and saw Derella and Katie standing there.

What were they saying? Didn’t Katie leave? What if she heard me talking to Lucas in the dining room? No way. That was impossible. I was sure she left the house. But what was Derella…

“I like you, Katie.”
