LUCAS’ POV.
“Court? You don’t mean that? What do you want to fight for in court?” She asked, looking at me with her brows raised.
“A divorce.” I replied, and she shook her head.
“How do you hope to win against John in court? You know how he manipulates people, and wait, what are we fighting for? Can partners of the Alpha Marriage be divorced? It’s a blood contract that was signed, it can’t be broken.” She said.
“I know. The couple will no longer be called a couple in name, but the both of them can no longer sleep with, or love any other people, but our case is different. We can still love each other because for some reason, I’m not dying, even though I’m daring to have a relationship with you.”
“I thought we agreed it’s because you and John are related by blood?” She asked, folding her arms.
“We don’t know that. Will says, centuries ago, a man once died by sleeping with the wife of his twin.
There has to be another reason, and Tray just told me about a library that keeps old, forgotten books.
If I go there, I might be able to find anything that can help us.
So, if we can dissolve the marriage, then you just have to wait two more years before you can be entirely free from John. ”
“That sounds too good to be true.” She said, shaking her head. “I don’t think it would work that easily. We won’t win this case. John will find a way to manipulate the judges.”
“I know a certain judge that can help us. He will judge fairly, and won’t be manipulated easily. Not even by John. My lawyer is competent too, and we will work with him.”
“I’m still not sure about this idea.”
“Just trust me. Everything will work out.” I assured her, and she gave a sigh, before nodding slowly.

The next day, I spoke to Tray and my lawyer in my office, about my plans, and although things didn’t look good, they agreed to take a look at things.
“We have to do something fast.” I said, showing them the video John sent to me. They watched it, and their faces took on grave expressions.
“We have to find evidence, and solid reasons why she wants to break away from the marriage. They were married not too long, so it might likely be delayed because they might feel it’s not too serious.
Maybe a little lovers’ fight. They have way too many cases on their hands, and might not want to pay much attention to it.
Has he abused her physically, neglected her for a long period of time, or cheated?
They’ll want to look at these things. Or, you can just find evidence that the marriage was forced because if you simply claim the marriage was forced, it wouldn’t be believed. ” My lawyer said.
“I’m not too sure we can find evidence that the marriage was forced. No one was there to witness it.” I said, thinking hard.
“Has he abused Emily after the marriage?” Tray asked me, with a raised brow.
“He hasn’t.” I replied.
“He hasn’t?” Tray asked, stressing his words.
“Oh! Yeah, he has. I’m a witness. He tried to strangle her.”
“If you’re a witness, but John tells the court you’re her lover, then your testimony might be ruled out. Also, he might deny all the charges, so we have to find evidence. Is there any evidence that he cheated on her? Any witnesses to him abusing her?” He asked, and I sighed.
It was going to be a tough battle.
“What if John doesn’t agree to go to court?” Tray asked.
“He has no choice. He will be summoned.” I replied, and we all lapsed into silence, mulling over ideas that we could suggest and work on.
After work, I decided to check out the library Tray had told me about. It was a building that definitely needed a paint job badly. The paint was peeling off the walls, and the sign was lopsided.
I walked in, and the bell rang. An old man and woman sat at the counter, reading different books, and they stared at me when I walked in.
“Good day. Could you perhaps direct me to the section for old marriages?” I asked, and the lady pointed to the shelves in the far distance.
The both of them went back to reading their books, and I waited for a while, hoping she’d be more specific, but when an answer wasn’t coming, I moved on, looking at the signs myself.
Finally, I got to the very end, and saw culture, tradition, and marriages on a rusty looking sign.
The books smelled old, dusty, and weren’t in good condition.
I searched through and through, and finally found an old, yet weak book talking mainly about Alpha Marriages.
In it was the detailed process of initiating the marriage, and also stories of people who engaged in it.
I was a little taken aback to find the story Will told me about in it.
It also stated that the marriage could be broken, but not the agreement. The mates would be forever bound. The man couldn’t sleep with, or love anyone else apart from his mate, and the same applied for to the woman.
I went through more books, hoping to find a story of anyone who wasn’t affected by the marriage, and why.
Then, finally, in a book that wasn’t as battered as the others, my eyes widened as I found a story similar to ours.
Isabella, and Stefan Rodriguez were two lovebirds who had engaged in the Alpha marriage; they had loved each other, but Isabella soon found out Stefan had been cheating on her, and she wondered how he could cheat, without his partner dying.
Then, she made him drunk, but he wouldn’t say a thing, except that his mistress was the only woman he could sleep with asides from her.
Isabella went ahead to kill his mistress, and it was then she found out the most important thing.
Even under the tight clutches of the Alpha Marriage, escape was possible, only if they were saved by another mate.
Emily and I were mates.
