Page 87 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Why did I feel jealous? Why did I want him to like only me? Wanting him to be friendly to me alone, and laugh with me alone was wrong, but why did I feel that way?
Why was I feeling left out because he wasn’t talking to me?
Even when the kids included me in their fun conversations, I still found myself stealing glances at Lucas and Katie. Did he like her? Maybe he had asked her out? Was that why he hadn’t said anything about her also sleeping with John?
Or he didn’t want her to feel jealous if he was talking to me? Maybe he didn’t want the kids to think we were having an affair.
My mind was going crazy, and I just wanted it to stop roaming with thoughts of Lucas. Why was I getting so worked up over him? It was just Lucas.
As we wined and dined, we all began to grow silent, and in a moment, Katie was on the sofas, which were joined together to take her length.
Derella was on the floor, sleeping soundly, while Derel, Jude, and Sadie were sprawled on Lucas’ large bed.
I looked at the table with leftover pasta in each plate. Everyone had taken more than enough, and kept on refilling, until they could eat no more. Katie had cooked the pasta, and it was evident that she was a great cook.
Just then, Lucas came in, and saw me seated with my back against his bed.
“Would you mind stepping out for a while?” He asked, and I hated the way I quickly got to my feet.
“Uh, oh… okay.” I said, and walked to him. We both went to the rooftop, tiptoeing, so we didn’t have to run into anyone on our way.
The breeze was heavenly, and it combed through my hair gently.
He sat at the edge, and placed a covered dish next to him. I sat next to the covered dish, and he opened it. It was a pie.
I chuckled.
“You really made it.”
“Yes, I wouldn’t want you telling the family I carried you against your will.” He added playfully, and even though I was full with Katie’s pasta, I found that there was still space for his pie.
I took a slice of his pie, and ate, nodding.
“This is really good.” I said, chewing, and placing the plate on my lap.
“Thanks.” He said, looking down at the streets sprawled out before us.
Cars were driving past, and stalls were busy with buying and selling. The pretty lights filled the place. The night was alive and it was beautiful.
“Wow. This feels heavenly.” I said, biting into his pie, as I looked over at all the bustling activities going on.
“This is why I love the rooftop. It’s peaceful.” He replied, and I smiled.
For me, it seemed like it was more beautiful because we were together. If I was alone, such beautiful sight would make me cry after thinking of beautiful moments, but with him, it was different.
I didn’t have to think of sad things. I only needed to think of how beautiful it felt that he was with me.
Just then, he pulled back my hair, and I turned to him.
Then he touched my earring.
“It’s been catching my attention. Small, but beautiful.” He said, staring at the earring like he’d love to try it on.
“You like it?” I asked, silently.
“Yeah.” He replied, having no idea how his small touch affected me. It made me want to lean into him, touch him, hug him… I closed my eyes tight to blot out such thoughts, and he bent to look at me.
“What’s the matter?” He asked.
“Uh, I… I’m a little sleepy.” I lied.
“Do you want to go in?”
“No.” I said too quickly. “Do you… do you mind if I lay my head on your shoulder?” I asked, and it felt like someone else had spoken those words. He chuckled, and shook his shoulder, telling me I could.
I moved closer to him, and laid my head on his shoulder gently. He was warm, and the warmness alone was enough for me to fall asleep. How would it feel to fall asleep in his arms again?
I looked at his fingers. They were not too manly, but they were pretty, and I wanted to put mine in them. They were large enough to cover mine, so I kept wondering how it would feel.
I closed my eyes for a brief moment, and when I opened them, I was somewhere else.
Shit, I slept off, I said in my head, and took a deep breath.
I opened my eyes wider. We were in Lucas’ room, and he was sleeping right in front of him.
The sun shone a little on his face, and turned his brown curls into golden ones.
His curls weren’t completely curled up. They were waves on his head. They fell over his eyes, but couldn’t cover his long, dark lashes. It reminded me of when I had seen him the morning after we accidentally slept together.
He had been enchanting that time, and he still was.
I swept back his hair from his face with my finger, but then I heard Derella yawn, and immediately brought down my hand, closing back my eyes. And hoping she hadn’t seen a thing.
I’d be so embarrassed if she had seen anything like that.
I kept my eyes closed, and could hear the others waking as a result of Derella’s loud yawning.
“Gosh, I slept well.” Sadie muttered, and Derel yawned loudly.
“Where did Lucas sleep?” He asked, groggily.
“He’s down here.” Derella replied, getting to her feet.
My eyes remained closed as they all began to wake, and I didn’t know when I drifted once more into sleep.
The next time I woke, no one was in the room, I went to my room, stretching, brushed my teeth, and took my bath, before going down to the kitchen, where I saw something quite shocking.
There was Lucas and Katie…
Kissing.
