Page 62 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
Maybe it was disgust, maybe it was hatred, but I didn’t want to see his face. I preferred the house with Lucas alone in it. How was I to deal with my hatred for him for three years. The few months I’d spent with him felt like years already.
Time went so slow. Seeing John, I actually wished he didn’t return, and that Lucas didn’t leave. Was he going to start torturing me again? Either way, I had to find a way to try to protect myself. Maybe having a laser on me would do.
There was no telling as to whether or not he wasn’t going to go crazy again, and try to force me to sleep with him like he almost did that day in his office.
“No one is happy to hear he’s around.” Kaye said, and I ran a hand through my hair.
“Why would anyone be? He’s a nutcase.” I said, and tore my eyes off him, walking away from the balcony.
In my room, I dialed Dahlia’s number, and threw open my wardrobe.
“Hey, Emily. How are you?” She said, cheerfully, and I could hear the sound of her munching.
“Eating?”
“Fruits.” She replied.
“John’s home, Lucas is actually not like the others, and I got a miscarriage.” I said casually, knowing it would be a shock to her.
“You got a what!?” She asked, and I laughed.
“I felt really bad about it, but I don’t anymore because he or she is going to come again when I’m finally married, and when it does, I’m going to give all the love I was unable to give.” I said, and could see her confused face in my mind’s eye.
“How did the miscarriage happen? Did it hurt?”
“Nope. I fell down the stairs, so the little pain I have is from a few bruises.”
“You fell down the…!? Oh, Emily…”
“Don’t give yourself such stress, Dahlia. I’m fine. Lucas tended to me. He found out about the pregnancy from the doctor, and was totally cool about it. He didn’t stare at me weirdly, and was even sympathetic with me. He didn’t want me to feel bad.”
“Really? So… does John know?” She asked.
“No. We agreed to keep it a secret. It actually serves the both of us. The family would go berserk if they heard I was pregnant for him.” I replied, and she sighed.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You’re fine?” She asked, with worry filling her voice.
“I am. I’m really fine. Lucas was really nice. We even laughed about John’s reaction.”
“Now I feel better. There’s one less psycho at that mansion, so I feel better.” She said, and I laughed.
“I wish John didn’t return though.” I said, picking out my official outfit. I was going to make him go crazy with my extreme formality.
“Things will all work out, darling. Now that you have one person on your side, keep him close.”
“Maybe.” I said, suddenly smiling widely.
“Maybe?” She asked, and I laughed.
“It’s weird to say I’ll keep him close.” I continued laughing, as I prepared myself.
Dahlia and I talked for a while more, and I was all dressed, and scrolling through Instagram when a maid knocked on my door.
I got up, and opened it.
“John’s asking for me?” I asked, and she nodded.
I rolled my eyes, and walked past her.

Talking about the clients that agreed to wait for him to return, thus postponing their appointment with him, was annoying.
He kept staring at me with a smile, and I wanted to turn, and glare at him, telling him to focus on what I was talking about, and not on my face.
Did he think I’d blush, or would turn instantly shy?
Thankfully, a savior came in the form of Katie, and I could tell she, just like me, and everyone else in the house didn’t want John around.
He was a nuisance to everyone, and no one liked him.
He excused me, and I was really thankful for that.
I didn’t have to see his annoying face until dinner because he demanded I eat dinner with him, and not alone in my room.
Sadie was with him staring at her grilled shrimp like she’d never seen it before.
Katie was also invited to dinner, and the four of us sat at the four sides of the table.
I looked at the cilantro pesto, and felt hungry. Ever since the miscarriage, I had gained a horrendous appetite.
“Here.” John said, passing me the roasted pepper, and corn salad as a side dish.
“I’m fine with this.” I replied curtly, and focused on my shrimp.
Accepting it from him might make him think I had some remnant feelings that wouldn’t let me reject him.
“I miss Lucas. This dinner feels so bleak.” Sadie commented, pushing a fork into her shrimp.
“Don’t talk while eating.” John said, chewing silently.
“Isn’t that what you adults do all the time? Especially businessmen like you? Do you keep quiet when having a lunch meeting with a client? You don’t talk?” She shot back, and John kept quiet.
“Lucas will be back soon. It’s just a short trip. Nothing much, so keep quiet now.”
“You admit you’re boring.” She pushed further.
“Sadie, I don’t want to talk.” He replied flatly, and just then, we heard the sound of wheels and heels.
“Who’s that?” Sadie asked, bending so she could look past me.
I looked back, and so did everyone.
There was Mandy, with luggage behind her, and a smile on her face. A gloating smile—meant for me.
What was she doing at the house late at night? Why did she have such a huge luggage with her? Did she know what she was doing?
She walked towards us, and smiled.
“Good evening, everyone. I see dinner is already going on. I’m invited, right?” She asked, and John gave a wide smile.
Then I admitted what I didn’t want to.
Mandy had come to stay.
