Page 72 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
“Mandy!” I called, getting to my feet abruptly.
She stopped, and turned around slowly, with a smile on her face.
“You can’t just do that. That’s ridiculous. No way. Why would I upload a drunk video and tag the Elders?” I asked, and she walked to me slowly.
“You have no other reason to do it, except the fact that I will spill your secrets. Tell me, are you that great? How did you get Lucas to sleep with you? Did you drug him? Don’t tell me he actually likes you, or that you both are in a relationship.”
“It’s not that way.”
“Then what way? You accused John of cheating, but slept with his Uncle?”
“I didn’t even know he was John’s Uncle, and that was after I broke up with him. I was reckless, and angry after finding Katie in his bed, and… look, I don’t even need to narrate anything to you. It’s none of your business.”
“You think I’ll believe that shit? Dream on.”
“Your choice, Mandy.”
“I give you till evening.” She said, and walked away, leaving me fuming.
How was it that such people always found me, and made things hard for me? They were ridiculous.
I brushed back my hair from my face aggressively, and hit the table, only to hug my hand to my chest as a bolt of pain shot through it.
What was I going to do when she wanted me to upload the video? Was I really to find beer and get myself drunk? Who knew what I’d say while drunk, and what I’d do?
Even though I pretended to be drunk, it was a death sentence either way.

Later that afternoon, Sadie came home, and met me sitting and staring out the window.
“What did Mandy say?” She asked, and I sighed.
“She wants me to upload a drunk video and tag your mother, aunt and Uncles.” I replied flatly.
“What? Why would she say that?”
“She’s going to tell them about the pregnancy if I don’t do it.”
“Don’t do it. Who does she think she is?” Sadie asked, furiously.
“I overheard the maids saying the family wants dinner together again. What if she says it then?” I asked, and she rolled her eyes.
“Don’t do anything.”
“That was the same thing Lucas said. She says she’s going to tell the family that I slept with Lucas, and got pregnant for him.” I pressed, and she rolled her eyes.
“Do you believe she’s going to say that? She’s not going to give up what she has on you that easily. Don’t do something that would ruin our family. Do you know how many people would react to your post? You’ll skyrocket to the news. John Granger’s wife posts drunk video and tags family. It’s going to be horrible.” She said, and I sighed.
Sometimes, she made it seem like she was older.
Just then, a knock sounded on the door, and I jumped. I opened it, expecting Mandy, but it wasn’t her.
It was John. There was a loud bang in my chest. Did he hear?
“Here.” He said, handing me some documents. “I want all these typed in before dinner. If you have enough time to hang out with Lucas, then you can use that time to work.” He said, and left. I heaved a sigh of relief.
If John had heard us, he would never leave just like that. He’d be unable to control his anger, and would get really violent.
I sat at my desk, and opened the laptop that had been given to me for work.
“He’s a jerk.” Sadie said casually, getting up from the bed, and making her way out of my room. “Leave Mandy alone, and don’t do a thing.” She added, and I sighed when she was gone.
It was convenient for them to tell me to do nothing.
I worked alone, tirelessly, trying to finish up the work which looked little at first, but was actually a lot of work.
As night fell, and I began to hear the sounds outside. The kids talking, and the adults laughing. I would have preferred to stay in just like that, but I was too anxious as to what Mandy would say.
She had given me till evening.
Just then, there was a knock on my door.
“Come in.” I said, dryly, not wanting to take my eyes off what I was doing.
“Hey.” Lucas said, and I sat up straight.
“Hi.”
“Everyone was making preparations for dinner. I didn’t see you.”
“Oh, John gave me some work in the afternoon.” I said, raising the documents lightly.
“You’re still on it?” He asked, coming to check it out.
“It’s been almost four hours.” I said, smiling, and he dragged a chair, and placed it next to me before settling into it.
“What is it you need to do?” He asked, taking out his phone.
“You don’t have a laptop with you.” I pointed out, and he shook his phone in front of me.
“I do most things with my phone. Tell me which of them I can deal with.” He said, and I smiled.
“In that case, I have just this left.” I said, handing over a document for him to type in his phone.
He used the Word app on his phone, and his fingers dashing across his keyboard were too fast for me to follow.
He was definitely used to typing with his phone.
The both of us worked in silence, but it was an enjoyable silence. It felt like we were coworkers, working under one cruel boss.
When we were done, we could smell the sweet aroma of dinner, and all the lights outside were on already.
After doing the work, and saving it, Lucas transferred his to the laptop, and we joined both documents, and I dropped it on John’s desk, while he waited in the foyer.
We both went out together, and everyone was already settled. They watched us approaching, and those moments were awkward. No one said a thing.
We sat together because thankfully, Derel was seated next to John, and on John’s other side was Jude.
“Why did you take so long?” Sadie, who was next to Lucas asked.
“The work was much.” I replied.
“Why did the mood suddenly become so cloudy?” Mandy asked with a smile, and the elders laughed, even though I could see nothing funny in what they were laughing about.
“Mind if I ask a question? I saw it online, but it really baffles me. I do not know how best to answer it.” She began, and the elders looked keen to hear her.
“Go on.” Alpha Will said.
“A girl was found to be pregnant for a man after she broke up with her fiancee. She says the fiancee cheated on her with a secretary, but she cheated on him with his relative. Who is the worse spouse?” She asked, then turned to me.
“You don’t suppose you have an answer, do you?” She asked, looking straight at me.
She was talking about me and Lucas, and even though my eyes maintained calm, my fingers wouldn’t stay still.
“Who’s the worse spouse? What do you think?” She asked again. “I believe the name of the lady was something like… Millie? Uh, that’s not it. I… I think her name was… Emilio.” She said, with a smile.
She had succeeded. Everyone else was already staring at me weirdly.
What was going through their minds, I had no idea.
