Page 140 of One Nightstand With My Ex's Uncle
EMILY’S POV.
It seemed like my heart wanted to break out of my chest, as John declared his intentions.
If he told the public what happened, Lucas’ businesses would be affected, he would be spoken about by almost everyone.
I wouldn’t be spared either. Apart from partaking in the ridicule, and mockery, the Grangers would not let me be.
Alpha Raymond will definitely punish me. Alpha Will, who never spoke much, looked like he was only waiting for one wrong move, waiting for me to step out of line.
Would my life end like that? No way. In John’s eyes, I could see that he was really pained, but none of it was my fault. He took things the wrong way; he made all the wrong decisions, and chose all the wrong things to believe in.
I didn’t believe he loved me, or he’d have to explain to me on what planet people loved like that.
Apart from his threat, the way he looked at me seemed to communicate a message. He was going to make me suffer for it. He wouldn’t let me go freely.
John had gone from a man who made my heart flutter to one who made my heart beat in terror.
“This is just the beginning. Your paradise has ended. I won’t sit back and take this. You just watch. This is where it all starts.” He said, and turned around, stomping away in anger.
I didn’t take his words lightly. I knew he truly meant them, and that he was really going to try his best to make me regret my decision.
“What are we going to do?” I asked, and my voice broke.
“He cannot do anything. I will make sure he can’t.
Before he makes a move, we are going to make ours.
I’m definitely going to find a way to bring you out of his hands.
Since we don’t have much time on our hands, I’m definitely going to be faster.
Don’t be scared of him.” Lucas assured me, but it didn’t really help to chase away the fear that had settled in my heart.
“What if everyone finds out about us? You know they will not care to dig deeper into the story, they’ll only believe the negative one.
That’s what people do. How do we want to start explaining that John forced me into marriage even though he knew we were in love, and that we met before John properly introduced us?
Even to me, they sound like excuses. Will anyone believe them? ”
“Emily. Calm down.”
“No, Lucas. Think about it. I’m quite terrified about what John can do.
There’s no need to fake the fact that he scares the hell out of me.
The public will keep on dragging me, and your family will not leave me too.
They will definitely do something terrible to me.
What if I end up in prison for a crime I didn’t commit, and my whole future comes crashing in front of me?
” I was panicking, thinking of all the negative ‘what ifs’ that would surely happen if John told the public I cheated on him with his Uncle.
I was quite sure he wouldn’t end with that. In fact he could make it sound, and seem worse, just to see me cry.
“Emily, just calm down, okay. None of what you’re thinking is going to happen. Can you just trust me? I promise I’m going to deal with it. I won’t let anything happen to you. Trust me on this, will you?” Lucas said, looking deeply into my troubled eyes.
“Can’t you at least tell me what immediate step you want to take? I’m really scared of what John will do. He’s so enraged right now, and…”
“I’ll talk to him.”
“You’ll talk to John?” I asked, still feeling unsettled. Talking to John would solve nothing.
“Earlier, he reeked of alcohol. When he’s sober, I’ll talk to him. I won’t let him do anything silly.” He assured me.
“Then it will turn into another fight neither of you will be able to control, or stop on your own. The maids will probably try and fail. Then, the family will be alerted, and John will spill everything right on the spot. I’ll be summoned, and no one will be on my side.
Just like that, everything will spin out of control. ”
“You sure have a movie planned out in your head, don’t you? Trust me this once. I’ll try my best to talk to him, without sparking a fight.” He said, and even though I didn’t feel settled yet, I decided to act like I was, just so he’d feel better.
“Alright. I’ll be expecting feedback.” I said, and he smiled.
“We’re going to get past this too, so don’t you worry.” He assured me further, and I nodded.
On my way to my room, I happened to run into Kaye. She looked around with a much calmer expression, then moved closer to me.
“Thank you.” I said, in a low voice, and she gave a little smile.
“I thought about it over, and over, and it seemed to be the best decision I could have taken.” She replied.
“It was indeed the best. Thanks. I owe you. By the way, I didn’t see you around for quite a while. Was it related to the issue?” I asked her, and she nodded.
“I was suddenly transferred to the Raymond mansion, and I served them there. But then again, I was brought back.” She replied, and I patted her shoulder.
“It’s all for the best. Thanks so much, Kaye. I really appreciate you.”
“It’s nothing. I did what any sane person should do. I should get going. It is quite late, and I don’t want to run into anyone who can make things harder for me.” She said, and I smiled.
“Yeah, you should. Goodnight Kaye.”
“Goodnight, Emily.” She returned, and walked away swiftly, looking around her, as she went.
I went to my room, and closed the door, only to meet John standing next to me. Quickly, I raced across the room away from him.
“I’ll scream.” I warned him.
“Do so. It’ll only make it better.” He growled, as he walked towards me slowly. “You dared to cheat on me. How convenient. With my Uncle of all people. I cheated while we dated, you cheated after we were married. Which sounds worse? Tell me.”
“Stop. Don’t come any closer.” I tried to say in a firm voice.
“I loved you. Didn’t I love you enough? I gave you chances. We had so many lovely moments together. We could always return, and make the past good again, but you ruined it. You made a fool of me by having an affair right under my nose.”
He stood so close that I could feel his breath on my skin. How much alcohol he had taken, I would never know, but I knew he must have taken more than five bottles.
“You don’t dare me. No. No one does such to me, and goes free.” He spat, and in a split second, his hand closed around my neck, blocking off air.
I choked, hitting his hand, wanting him to let go desperately, but his hand was iron…
And the look in his eyes, fire.
