Page 75 of The Lost Ones
“You don’t need to see Brother.” Maverick places a hand on Jax’s shoulder.
“I do! I need to see it!” Jax says his voice harsh.
Whatever Maverick sees in his eyes convinces him and he nods to me to let go. Extremely reluctantly, I release the death grip on Jax’s hand. He stands up shakily, takes a deep breath and walks slowly round to face my back. I don’t know what I was expecting but the deathly silence has me more worried than if he was cursing up a storm. He suddenly appears as if out of nowhere directly in front of me and making me jump slightly, his sudden appearance shocking the others too. His large hands softly frame my face, being careful of all my bruises and his sad dark blue eyes stare into mine.
“I am so sorry Sage.” He says solemnly.
“Not your fault, Jax.” I say leaning into his hands.
“I’m sorry, but we don’t have time for this. Sage needs to get to the hospital, now. She’s lost too much blood.” Levi tells us.
Kai has been so quiet that I’m worried about whether he has been sucked into a memory. He is still clutching my hand though so I’m hoping that’s a good sign. The edges of my vision are starting to grey, which causes my panic to rise. Before I can voice my panic, a voice interrupts.
“If you want to help her, you’re going to have to do it fast, she’s lost to much blood and is going to lose consciousness if you don’t do something.” Dash says.
“We can’t move her; it’ll cause her too much pain now that she’s taken the barrier down.” Erin adds.
“We need to have a talk about everything that went on as soon as Sweetheart is ok.” Hunter says.
I hear the wheels of a car screech to a halt and all the people surrounding me tense ready for anything.
“Sagely-Wren!” The voices of Thomas, Joey and Micha yell together.
“Dad?” I ask, the concept still foreign to me. All these people care about me.
“Director S is your Dad!?” Erin exclaims.
“You’re THAT Sage?” Damon asks shocked.
“What happened?” Joey asks, he circles me and then curses.
“You boys need to fix this now before it’s too late!” Micha exclaims.
“What do you mean we need to?” Jax growls. “Don’t you think, if we knew how to fucking fix her, we would’ve by now!”
“How’re we supposed to fix her?” Hunter asks only slightly calmer.
“Is it the Soulmate Bond, is that how we help heal her?” Maverick asks urgently.
I slump forward into Jax and Kai’s arms, unable to hold my own weight up anymore, the grey at the edge of my vision descends further clouding my sight even more. I fight against it knowing that if I go into the darkness that’s calling me, this time I won’t wake up.
“Sage!” My guys yell at once.
I open my mouth to reply but nothing comes out, nothing is working properly.
“Yes, the Bond can help, all of you quickly place your hands on her at the same time,” Thomas’s voice instructs, panicked, “then repeat these words,Sors nostra precamur insertas cura anime figere quid fractum.”
I’m vaguely aware of the guys all placing a hand on some part of my exposed skin, trying to avoid my many injuries.
“I’m not leaving!” I hear Erin state stubbornly. “She’s my friend, she already told me all about the Soulmate Bond! I can’t leave her.” Her statement starts out fierce but by the end her voice has broken.
Damn, she really is a good friend already.
“Fine you can stay.” Micha says quietly.
“Get that Fox away from her!” I hear Thomas shout incredulously just as I feel soft fur, as Knot places her forehead against mine and in doing so takes away a small sliver of pain.
Enough for me to find my voice.
