Page 205 of The Lost Ones
I repeat the letters to myself as I scan the streets below looking for anything that could give a hint as to why I’m here and why it’s so important that I witness this. Movement from the mouth of an alley catches my attention and my body or spirit or whatever the fuck I am now moves closer without any effort on my part.
I find myself floating above Nyx and two of her men. It’s too dim for me to make out who exactly they are. Not that I remember them as much as I remember Nyx. There’s something incredibly striking and memorable about her. It would be hard to forget Nyx.
They aren’t alone in the alley and they’re soon joined by a large panther stalking through the shadows. It shocks me when the panther turns seamlessly into a man in his mid-forties. He has an impressive and well kept beard, yellow eyes like his cat counterpart and is dressed in a grey tweed suit complete with waistcoat and a cane.
I seriously want to know how he managed to disappear it whilst in his panther form.
For hells sake Sage focus, I admonish myself.
“I need you to keep this safe for me.” Nyx says handing the guy a thick envelope.
Its easy to tell that it has some weight to it and I’d guess that it has something more than paper in it.
“For how long?” The guy says instantly putting it into his suit jacket and not asking about the contents.
“Oh I’d say around three hundred and fifty two years or so.” She smirks and the guys eyes widen as I gasp in shock.
That’s a really fucking long time.
“And after that what’s going to happen to it?” He asks once he’s gained his composure.
“A girl with purple hair, eyes that match with gold in them too and her six travelling companions will come looking for it.” Nyx replies.
Fuck that’s me. I mean us. Me and us fuck I’m not making sense.
“I-i-tt’s true!?” He gasps and Nyx’s men step closer to her one releasing a warning growl.
“Now Monty you know I’m not going to tell you that.” She chuckles. “You are to give it to her with none of your riddles or bargains do you understand?” She commands of him, her voice resonating with magic and power.
“Of course. I wouldn’t even dream of trying to bargain with,” He says grinning.
I don’t hear the rest of the sentence as the wind suddenly whips around me cutting off my hearing and dragging me back through the darkness and I’m assuming back to my own my time.
It makes me wonder if it was done deliberately and what the end of Monty’s sentence was going to be.
Chapter Thirteen
This time when I awake its gradually I don’t come crashing into the awake world in a ball of pain like I did after the nightmare that Creep pulled me into.
Thank fuck.
When I do finally open my eyes though not only do I have a worried looking Knot, in her fox form lying on my chest with her nose inches away from my own but I also have Ghost peering at me from his perch above my head looking just as worried. He tilts his head to the side and I reach up slowly and gently stroke the feathers of his chest with one hand as I stroke Knot with the other.
“I’m okay guys I promise.” I say to them.
“Are you sure Beautiful because you were asleep for a really long time and none of us could wake you.” Kai says his tone anxious.
I peer past my familiar’s to see all of my men and Kysen crowded around me worriedly.
“Fuck did something weird happen?” I ask worried that I might’ve done an interpretive dance or some shit.
“No Darling but you have been asleep, without moving a muscle for the entire night and a good portion of the morning too. That and your familiar’s both showed up to guard you.” Levi says coming closer as Ghost and Knot move out of the way not taking their eyes off of me.
“That’s usually the sign that somethings a miss with you but they weren’t panicking just watching so we took our cue from them.” Jax says, laying a hand on my thigh and squeezing gently.
“That explains why I feel so stiff.” I groan. “Fuck before I forget, does anyone have a pen and a piece of paper or anything similar?”
“Sure, one second.” Kysen says curiously.
