Page 67 of The Lost Ones
They all nod and I glance at Levi waiting for him to take the lead. What I see has my heart stuttering, Jax isn’t in control. Sage being taken has pushed him over a ledge that I haven’t seen him go off for many years.
The others soon notice. Watching Levi’s eyes fill with pure fury, his breath pushes out in harsh pants and his hands clench intofists so tight, his knuckles have turned white. He lets out a roar of pure emotions, spins and launches his fist into the wall leaving a sizeable hole behind. I exchange worried looks with the guys. Gone is my calm, collected and laid-back brother. In his place is a raging and tense man, distraught at the loss of our missing Soulmate.
My heart clenches for my brother as he stands there his chest heaving with ragged breaths, his head bowed, nearly touching his chest and his fists are still clenched. I walk up to him slowly, the other guys following my lead. I lay my hand on his shoulder causing him to flinch, I don’t let go though, he needs to come back to us, we need him to help find Sage. The others each lay their hands on him too, brothers united, as it’s always been.
“Levi, she will be ok.” He grunts and tries to pull away but we don’t let him, “we need you to help find her, you can’t help her like this man.” I pull him into a tight embrace and don’t let go until I feel his muscles relax.
“I’m back.” He growls. His voice deep and harsh, it won’t return to normal until he sees her safe and with us.
God please let her be ok. I clap him on the back and we all take a step back.
“Sage said we could work out the timings to follow on the traffic cameras where they took her, but that’s going to be really time consuming and I don’t want to waste any more time than we have to, so if it’s alright with everyone else, I suggest we try her other suggestion and use the Soulmate Bond?” Levi asks, back in control.
“Sounds good to me, how do you want to work it?” Maverick asks.
“I think it might be better if we try focusing on it as a unit rather than individually?” Hunter suggests.
We all agree and following our instincts join hands before looking inwards to the place where the glowing bond to Sage resides. I sense the others around me and for the first time see the less brightly lit lines attaching me to the guys, my brothers. As one we focus on our intent, our need to find our Soulmate. All of the bonds glow brightly for a moment before the light suddenly disperses, I open my eyes and stare in wonder at the glowing gold line attached to each of our chests and flowing outwards. Instinctively I know the other end is attached to Sage.
“Holy fuck, are you seeing this?” I say my voice hushed.
“Yes, let’s go!” Levi growls.
He snatches his keys off the counter and storms towards the door. We decided to carry onto the safe house after Sage was taken, since it has the equipment we might have needed, and we needed to inform Thomas of what was going on. He got on a plane immediately and informed the other teams in the area of what was going on and to be prepared at a moment’s notice, despite the fact that they each have their own jobs to accomplish at the moment, which was why we had to be sent out here and consequently, Jett’s team too.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the ends of Kyle and Nate’s guns, two more members of Jett’s team, they quickly realised who we were though and have been helping us plan ever since.
“Guy’s, we got a lead! Follow us in your car!” I yell into the house.
Hearing something crash, they race to follow us.
We all sprint after Levi and jump into the SUV. Our team isn’t risking taking separate ones now. We stick together. I’m extremely relived to see that the gold threads are still attached to us. At the end of the driveway the threads turn left reaffirming that it really does lead to Beautiful. As the car pulls forward, I watch in fascination as someone walks right through the threads, not noticing them at all. Only we can see them then, that’s good, it would be hard to explain otherwise.
Although, Nate and Kyle are probably going to have some questions after this over.
Levi puts his foot down and I question how wise it was to let him drive. He’s a safe driver but I don’t think traffic laws are going to mean much to him right now. The further away the thread leads us the tenser the atmosphere gets inside the car. How the fuck can she be so far away? We’ve been driving for a few hours only stopping once to get gas. The environment has slowly changed from the suburban areas in the city to country backroads and we are all getting increasingly antsy.
Suddenly the glowing bond line disappears and I can’t feel anything coming from Sage.
“Where’s it gone?” I ask panicked.
“Can anyone else see it?” Hunter asks, his voice rising with the same panic that’s coursing through all of us.
“I can see it, but just.” Levi says and we all squint. Sure enough it’s still there, but it’s extremely faint.
“What does that mean?” Mav growls.
“Fuck if I know, but fucking hurry!” Jax growls.
Levi flattens his foot to the floor, the only reason we aren’t crashing being that he’s such a good driver.
She’s ok, she’s fine. The bond line’s still there, she’s still alive. I push down the panic trying to rise at the thoughts of wondering why the bond line has suddenly dimmed. I won’t go there; she’s fine, she has to be. I need her.
Sage
“Wake the fuck up whore!” Brent yells as my face is once again drenched in water.
Motherfucker.
