Page 68 of The Lost Ones
“I’m awake.” I croak, my voice barely working and my throat is incredibly sore.
“Sage!” Erin calls but I dare not take my eyes off of Brent.
“Who are they!?” he asks, trying to control the barely tempered rage.
“They’re no one, just some agents sent to find me, after someone told them I used to date you.” I say with as much conviction as I possess, I will protect the guys.
He watches me silently for what feels like ages before he turns to the other team, I get ready to hurl insults, anything to take his focus off of them. His next words shock me to the core.
“At sunrise you will be executed, we have no use for you anymore.” He says coldly, his words clipped.
He storms out of the room once again. Once I know for sure he’s gone, I face the others.
“We’ll be gone by then, I got a message to the guys. Hopefully they’ll be able to find us, regardless we can’t wait around.” I rasp then groan in pain having forgotten about my dislocated shoulder.
Shit.
“Are you going to be able to do anything with that?” Dash asks me, nodding towards my dislocated shoulder and wincing.
I shrug with my good shoulder.
“I’ll be able to get the cuffs off, one of you is going to have to help me put it back in.”
They nod and glance between each other deciding who to do it.
“Whoa, hold on a fucking second what do you mean you got a message to the guys?” Erin questions. “How the fuck did you do that?”
“Good point.” Jett narrows his eyes.
“You haven’t got any device on you and you’ve been unconscious,” Erin’s eyes suddenly widen, “no fucking way.”
I nod, knowing she’s figured it out.
“You’re Soulmate Bonded!?” She exclaims, the others gape at me and I chuckle.
“Very newly.” I tell them.
“Well that explains how we didn’t know you, we go to the academy, it’s for high level teams who have had some kind of exposure to the supernatural. The teams are trained to hunt rouge supernaturals.” Her eyes grow hard and I wonder what her story is, “and obviously those that are in a Soulmate Bond attend too.”
My mind stalls on the word supernatural, seeing my wide-eyed stare her own eyes widen.
“Holy shit, how recently did you find out about the bond?”
I pause to think and realise with a start that it’s only been two days, holy fuck a lot has happened.
“Two days and we didn’t get a full explanation because we had to deal with other things first. So basically, I know nothing.Supernaturals?” I question because I simply have to know.
“Ok quick crash course, those childhood myths and stories that you’re told as a kid?”
I nod.
“Those are all real.”
“All of them?” I say incredulously.
“Yep,” she says popping the ‘p’ “of course they’ve been embellished somewhat, and they aren’t all facts, but the bones of the stories are true.”
“Holy fucking crapballs!” I curse, causing the other team to chuckle.
