Page 100 of The Lost Ones
Although they hardly look like a threat right now considering the majority have their mouths dropped open or their eyebrows in their hairline.
“None of this blood is mine and we were attacked and it was obviously planned.” I state not lowering my weapon.
“Now, now,” a new voice interrupts.
Immediately the surrounding people student and instructor alike straighten up. The woman stands just outside of the wide doors, clearly the person in charge judging by everyone’s reactions. She’s dressed in a smart suit but is clearly armed and ready to go at a moments notice. She looks severe with her blonde hair scraped back into a tight bun and hawk like features.
“Everyone experiences the same thing,” she continues, “you’re nothing special.” She smirks making everyone in the crowd laugh. I take note of the haunted looks that cross more than a few faces though, “We use it as a sort of screening test. If you can’t survive against two rogue vampires using your gifts, even though you are untrained, then you aren’t strong enough to be here.” She grins clearly proud of herself.
I burst out laughing shocking the shit out of everyone as the crowd starts murmuring and the woman’s eyes narrow into little pissed off slits.
“Two?” I ask, still laughing, “you think there were only fucking two of them?”
She stares at me stoically clearly unable to answer. I lower my weapon knowing the guys have my back and that the onlookers are far too curious by this point to bother with me anyway. I walk towards the back of the SUV as the woman just stands there stubbornly. The instructors follow me though, the guy who spoke to me ordering the students to stay put as they start to follow. I waste no time in pulling open the back and the guys eyes widen as one of the instructors curses.
“You’re going to want to see this Director Atkins,” The guy says looking towards the stairs where the stubborn woman is still standing.
She crosses her arms and stares down her nose at me. I have no idea how this woman has such a big problem with me already but it sounds about par for my life before the guys. I guess something had to carry over from then.
“I highly doubt that there is anything of consequence worth me entertaining her, Domonic.” She says and I feel my blood heat.
I catch a flash of amusement in her eyes that confuses me for a second but I push it aside as a trick of the light.
I reach in and grab one of the heads by the hair, pulling it up and throwing it in her direction so it ends up landing at the bottom of the steps.
I smirk as she steps back unable to help her first reaction to it, her jaw clenches and her teeth grind.
“There’s at least six in here, although it’s hard to tell since they’re all in pieces!” Domonic says unable to hide the impressed edge to his tone.
“We burnt the rest.” I say simply.
“How many were there?” Director Atkins snaps a hint of concern in her tone that doesn’t fit with what she’s shown me of her personality so far.
“Just over a dozen ma’am.” Kai says somewhat respectfully before adding, “Although it was kind of hard to tell with Levi’s, he ripped them apart.” Kai informs them grinning widely and clearly enjoying the uneasy looks that are passed around.
Levi, having moved to standing behind me again as soon as I opened the trunk, buries his head in my neck and chuckles. My guys are a bit brutal in nature and I have a feeling that’s only going to increase when their supernatural sides are properly unleashed.
Mine too if I’m being honest. I enjoyed the fight withthe rogue vampires and the brutality of it. Even before all of this I needed that fight, that release of something I couldn’t quite explain.
“Very well.” She says primly seeming to get a hold of herself again, “all of you follow me. The rest of you should be in classes.” She snaps out to the surrounding students who promptly all turn back around and go back to the areas they were in before.
I share a look with the guys and we all put away our weapons before following. Something is going on here but I don’t sense that we are in any immediate danger.
“Stay alert!”Levi sends down our bond and we nod.
We enter through the massive doors into a giant entryway towering stone walls soar upwards, matching stone floors and even the odd wall sconce. I am happy to see electric lighting as well though, which gives me hope that there should be indoor plumbing. We follow her further into the training academy passing multiple doors.
“Your species classes will be down this hall and the general classes down the hall on your right. There’s a map in your room that will show you where everything else is. We haven’t got your paperwork through yet, which species are you and I’ll point the right rooms out to you.” She asks.
I raise my eyebrow at the guys.
“We’re human.”
“What!?” She exclaims her face paling.
“My gifts are bound, they haven’t been triggered yet. Well Levi has partly due to some tense circumstances.” I explain and watch her closely.
She genuinely seems to be distraught.
