Page 61 of The Lost Ones
“What the fuck do you want Brent?” I hiss as I barge into Levi’s room without knocking.
I immediately put the phone on speaker and bring my finger to my lips motioning for Levi to be quiet. He looks at me confused but does as I ask.
“Now, now Sage, that’s no way to talk to your boyfriend.” His words are crazy but not particularly threatening, however the tone of his voice is laced with repressed violence. I shoot Levi a ‘what the fuck’ look. Boyfriend?
“I am not, your girlfriend Brent.” I say flatly trying to be as clear as possible.
“Yes, you fucking are. Now I don’t know where the fuck you’ve disappeared to, but I do know you aren’t at home.” I shoot an alarmed look at Levi.
I never told him where I lived when we were together. I was incredibly careful about that. Levi moves closer wrapping an arm around my waist and motioning with his other hand to keep him talking. I feel another arm wrap around my waist from the other side and I glance up to see Kai, he places a tender kiss on my forehead. Jax, Maverick and Hunter also place a hand on me, lending me their strength. I take a deep breath.
“How do you know where I live, Brent?”
“Ah now that’s a story for another day. You need to come home now. If you do as I say your punishment will be a lot less severe.” All of my guys stiffen and their fists clench. “I’ve let you have your fun but it’s time to come back to me where you belong, it’s not safe for you to be wandering around. We’ve already had to take care of one problem watching us a bit too closely.”
My eyes widen, and a pit opens in my stomach.
Wasn’t there supposed to be another team watching him whilst my guys were here? Levi already has his phone out, hopefully confirming that the other team are all ok.
“If you don’t return to me, I will find you Sage, I’m an incredibly well-connected man. If you make me come and find you, the consequences will be dire.” His voice drops dangerously low, the threat clear. “Don’t make me do something I’ll regret Sage; you have a week.” With that final warning he hangs up.
“Fuck!” I curse harshly and look to Levi to see if he got through to the other team.
“I can’t get hold of Jett.” He shakes his head concern clouding his eyes.
“Shit!” Jax curses.
“Try Thomas and see if they made their last check in?” Hunter suggests.
“Good idea, I’ll call him now. Everyone finish getting dressed. I’ll meet you all in the study.” Levi commands already pressing his phone to his ear.
I finally look at my men properly and realise that they are all in some state of undress. I lick my lips. Then suddenly remember that I’m only dressed in a very short towel. My cheeks redden, and an unattractive squeak leaves me as I rush out of the room with the guys chuckles following me down the hallway.
Damn it.
Why am I always in some state of undress around these gorgeous men? I can’t honestly say that the thought truly distresses me, I find it more amusing than anything. They don’t seem to mind in the slightest, a smirk pulls at my lips and I chuckle as I reach my room.
Chapter Seventeen
By the time I make it to the study, which is more like a conference room from the sheer size alone, my cheeks have finally cooled, and I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I can’t seem to wear clothes around the guys and I’m ok with that. I’m also more determined than ever to shut Brent’s operation down. He’s a crazy and deluded dick.
I take a seat next to Hunter, the dogs sit at his feet and wait as the large monitor on the wall directly in front of the table big enough to seat ten, buzzes to life and Thomas appears. He smiles brightly around at us all before truly taking in our expressions, his smile dimming immediately.
“I’m assuming this is a formal call, Levi?” He asks immediately, his eyes scanning the room until they land on me.
“Unfortunately, so, Sir. Sage just got a threatening phone call from Brent, he told her he knew where she lived even though she had never told him. I have already forwarded the recording to you. During the phone call he insinuated that he had taken care of some people watching him too closely. I tried to get in contact with Jett’s team using the proper protocols, but they aren’t responding. We were wondering if they had made their last check in?”
The clack of computer keys comes through the screen as Thomas searches for the information Levi requested.
“No, they didn’t. I want your team back in Blackfalls as soon as possible. Exercise extreme caution.” Thomas instructs them.
“Sage would like to help us take Brent down Sir.” Levi tells him, the only sign that he’s remotely anxious about asking Thomas is a slight tensing in his eyes, “she is a more than competent fighter, she was trained by Cain Patrick.”
“What!?” Multiple voices exclaim and suddenly all three of my father’s faces are filling the screen.
“He trained me since I was nine and was nothing but kind to me.” I explain to them.
“I suppose that’s something,” Joey rubs his chin in thought. “An assassin though, seriously?” He throws his hands up in exasperation. “Ineed a drink!” He exclaims before walking off camera.
