Page 177 of The Lost Ones
We all turn to face him and I look the guy up and down, interestingly enough the guy is a vampire. I say interestingly because at least I have some experience in fighting them.
“Of course it was fucking me the dickhead decided to fight.” I comment flippantly as I roll my eyes.
My body starts to thrum with excitement at the prospect of the upcoming violence. It looks like I’m going to get my wish satiate my violent hunger after all.
“I’m sorry,” Kysen starts to apologise, real worry and concern in his tone.
I can’t blame him for his assumption that it would upset or worry me to be called out to fight to the death. We are new to this world and have limited experience. Not only that but we’re not used to the brutality of the supernaturals however I’m me and the guys are as dark and violent as I am.
I’m excited.
“I might be able to get you out of it.” Kysen starts, worry swimming in his tone.
The guy starts to hype up the crowd like he thinks he’s some kind of big man or vampire, at a wrestling match or some shit. I roll my eyes, I’ve seen so many guys just like him at Brent’s fight club. They see they’re fighting me and get cocky and overconfident wrongly assuming that because I’m female I’m weaker.
“Don’t even bother.” Kai says smirking and making Kysen’s head snap towards him in disbelief at his perceived callousness with my life, Kai chuckles and elaborates, “She’s going to love this. If I know my Beautifulgirl like I think I do then she’s getting a bit twitchy about now.”
I tilt my head back slightly so Kai can see my face and wink at him.
“You realise this is a fight to the death?” Kysen questions his voice filled with disbelief.
I ignore him and focus on the guy who has finally turned his attention back to me.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” I ask my voice low and devoid of any emotion that could give away my excitement.
Now that my mind and body have been given the go ahead to indulge the violence they’re raring to go and I’m not entirely sure I want to know what will happen if that is taken away from them now.
The crowd that has gathered thanks to his boisterous behaviour and boosting of an easy fight with an outsider, hears my words and they all fall silent preparing for the show they think they’re about to get.
“There’s no backing out now. The challenge has been issued, you back out now you forfeit your life.” He grins maliciously, wrongly assuming that I was asking for my benefit and not his.
I shrug dismissively which he doesn’t appreciate.
“Stupid naïve bitch!” He spits gnashing his teeth together.
My guys tense at his insult, Hunter letting free a deep and threatening growl that freezes the entire crowd causing them to move back slightly and see our group in a new light. I watch amused as the vampire’s eyes dart away nervously before he brings his gaze back to us and trying to project an unaffected look.
I turn around to face my guys as I do so I drop my hood. I can’t fight with this cloak on. Well I could but I don’t want it to get ruined and it is a unnecessary hindrance. I’ve been saying how so many of my opponents have underestimated me and here I am doing exactly the same thing. Having said that I am basing my assumption on the fact that it took so long for him to issue the challenge in the first place and that he tried to choose who he perceived as the weakest one of us. That suggests to me that he is weak himself either that or a coward.
However he could just be lazy and actually be an extremely good fighter.
I grin savagely at my men, dropping my cold façade as I let the pure thrill of the coming fight blaze on features. They return my grin with matching feral grins of their own their eyes glinting dangerously. My men know exactly how much I need this and my heart warms at their obvious belief that I can handle it. I have had people tell me I’m worthless and no good all of my life and to have their unwavering support and assuredness that I can do this means more to me than I could properly express.
Kysen’s gaze switches between us rapidly his eyes widening with understanding as he starts to realise that we aren’t all we appear. He still appears worried and apprehensive for me and I have a niggling suspicionthat there’s more to it than my supposed lack of experience.
Something to question later I guess and I have every confidence that there will be a later for me. As my unique appearance starts to get noticed by the surrounding crowd I hear some gasps and some scoffs people not so subtly laughing at the ridiculous colour I’ve dyed my hair.
Good keep the fuckers guessing.
“Don’t make it look too easy Darling.” Levi practically purrs his eyes heating.
My grin widens as Kysen’s eyebrows practically disappear into his hairline.
“I’ll try not to. I haven’t had a good fight for a while though.”
“Come on girly. I don’t have all day!” The vampire calls out smugly from behind me.
“Someone’s in a rush to die.” I deadpan as I turn around to face him.
