Page 144 of The Lost Ones
“Dude, we went through all of the gifts we could think of and none of them triggered. What makes you think I’ve got a third one?” Erin asks, Cole nodding in agreement.
“Intuition.” I say simply.
“In that case, I’d assume that it’s another rare gift.” Cole says instantly trusting my word and solidifying that it was a good idea to bring him into the fold and trust him.
“Have you got any suggestions on how we can try to bring it out?” I ask.
“None that I’m willing to try. If I was wrong about your shielding the worst you would’ve gotten is knocked out and a headache.” He says, “Put it this way one of the rare gifts is regeneration and I’m not sure that any of us are willing to try that one out. Many of the other rare gifts have just as drastic ways to bring them out or very specific circumstances in which they’ll appear. Hence why some supernaturals can go for years without realising they have another gift.”
“Yeah, no, I am definitely not willing to cut something off on the off chance that it may grow back.” Erin shudders. “I’ll just wait and see. I have every faith that the goddess will show me what my extra gift is when it’s time.”
“Sounds like a good plan to me.” I say. “Why are you frowning?” I ask Cole.
“Somethings just occurred to me, what if the same person that used the void to transport that serpent and that Nicole warned you about is the same person that abducted Rebecca and her Bonded?”
“Fuck why didn’t I think of that!” I say, it seems pretty obvious now to assume that they are the same.
“Want to go check out her room?” Erin grins, “I mean it is only across the hall.”
“True and we all know that the Director was obviously holding back, I don’t think that woman could ever tell the truth.” Cole adds rolling his eyes.
They both turn to look at me like I’m the one they need to convince to go along with the idea.
“Guys, you realise that I was in the second Erin suggested it?” I chuckle.
“Should’ve known.” Cole chuckles and I grin.
We all get up and start towards the door but Cole pauses.
“Text your Bonded and tell them what we are doing. I am not being held responsible if something happens to one of you.” He says his eyes comically wide.
“Good point, you do it. I can’t remember where I put my phone!” I explain and Erin rolls her eyes pulling out hers and sending a quick text.
“Done!” She grins as we make our way out the door.
“Aren’t you going to wait for them?” Cole asks curiously.
“We won’t need to.” I say chuckling.
Sure enough as soon as we’re in the hallway the door next to ours opens and out strolls Levi and Nate. Levi immediately comes over to me and kisses me.
“I missed you, Darling.” He mutters.
“I missed you too!” I reply sighing softly. “How come the other guys didn’t come too?”
“We thought it would definitely be suspicious and harder to hide if all of us came since there are so many of us. Plus Mav and Dash are still down at the library and the others are having far too much fun playing with their gifts.” Nate explains rolling his eyes and making me chuckle.
“That sounds about right.” Erin says grinning.
“Come on let’s get this done before someone spots us and we get accused of having something to do with their disappearance.” Cole says smiling at the picture that Nate just painted for us and we quickly walk across the hall.
I make quick work of the lock, easily picking it, glad that although he looks curious Cole doesn’t ask any questions. I am not ready to get into my fucked up past right now. There’s been enough revelations for one day. Of course the ease at which I picked the lock then has me worrying about the security of our own rooms.
“I’ll get some extra locks for the rooms.” Levi says reading the worry on my features.
“Good idea, I’ll do the same to ours.” Nate agrees.
We all enter the room quickly and shut the door quietly behind us.
