Page 247 of The Lost Ones
“Vitae!” I exclaim the power vibrating in my voice.
The magic from the word hits the shield and visibly lifts it up about half a metre.
I let the manic grin overtake my face as I release a torrent of fire into the packed dining room. Kai does the same nextto me and almost immediately you can hear screams of pain as I command my fire to dance through the room setting anyone who is guilty of the Orders beliefs and kidnapping the Centre’s ablaze.
I may be a vengeful bitch but I will not take innocent life and if there is anyone in there that my fire deems as innocent I hope they take this as a fucking sign and escape. Kai’s fire rages and plays with mine. This is the first time that we’ve truly let our gifts free and it feels fucking amazing. I know time is of the essence though and there could still be some guards around here.
I command my fire to burn until the last guilty fucker is all crispy and send the idea to Kai who grins viciously.
We both step back vicious grins adoring both of our faces and turn to face the shocked looks coming from everyone behind us. The screams of pain and terror echoing from the room behind us echo around the cavernous hallway. The reaction from the Centre’s and their Bonded is mixed some of them are grinning just manically as we are, where as some of them are watching us warily. I know that not all of the Order are in there, it stands to reason that they are spread out all around the world but these ones have been dealt with and my rage lessens slightly now that justice has been served to these few.
“Alright then. Lets get going before whatever guards aren’t in there come to investigate the noise.” Levi orders us a proud glint in his eyes.
“If we follow this hallway right to the end it should come out near the kitchens, no one will be working now all of the servants confined to their quarters. There’s a door that leads from the kitchens into the courtyard with the stables. They won’t have enough horses for all of us but they do have several carts that they brought us in on and there’s an exit out of the city. They use it so that they don’t have to bring us through the main part of the city and risk the supernaturals there taking offence and trying to rescue us. They may be criminals but even they would object to us being used by humans.” The woman who first greeted us tells us.
“Thank you.” Levi replies as he starts to lead us in the direction the woman pointed out. “Ghost, go and scout ahead please.”
Ghost launches himself off of Levi’s shoulder and down the hallway ghosting through doors and walls as he goes. Which causes murmurs from the crowd.
I grasp hold of Kai’s arm as Ghost shows me the way that the woman described and the exit.
“It’s all clear.” I tell Levi as soon as I can see again.
He nods and we quickly usher everyone down the hallway and through the deserted kitchen.
“Everyone who can ride grab a horse, we don’t need to leave them with any means to follow us, at least not easily.” Kysen says as soon as we are in sight of the stables.
It turns out that the vast majority of them can ride and we’ve clearedout the Orders entire stables which is damn helpful. It also means that’s there is only a small cart of supernaturals instead of several which should make travelling a lot easier.
“Follow me to the safe location, from there we will portal you all back to the Blood Moon academy. Stick together, this is no time to be splitting up. We’re going to go slowly around the perimeter and stick to the shadows.” Levi says to everyone who listen avidly.
“Knot and Ghost could you find us a path that we can get the cart and all of the horses down that leads back to the village please, looking at the cart now I don’t think it will fit down the one we came in on.” I ask my two familiars once I’m up on my horse. It feels weird not to be riding Dave but I know they’re safe at the meeting point.
“Follow us we will show you the way.” Knot replies and my mouth drops open in shock.
“What the fuck!?” Cole exclaims, “She spoke!” He adds stating the obvious.
“As the bond between familiar and Centre grows she will do that more and more.” The Elderly Centre answers amusement twinkling in her eyes.
“When this is all over I have so many questions for you.” I say to her.
“And I have many answers to give you, some to question that you haven’t even thought to ask yet.” She says cryptically before winking at me sassily.
I grin in response.
Knot shakes her head and they both take off we follow them, trusting that they will alert us to any danger and that they will lead us to a safe track to get everyone to the village, we are so damn close now.
I put one of my Nyx blades away pulling out a dagger instead, we’re only moving slowly and with the amount of practice that I’ve gotten over the last few days riding I’m more than confident that I can stay on the horse without holding on. I turn my head when a glint catches my eye near the perimeter of the cities walls the guard atop the wall starts to turn in our direction his sword glinting in the moonlight, I launch my dagger and he falls silently to the ground.
I really hope that we aren’t too far from the track that Knot and Ghost are leading us to. I feel far too exposed out here. I would ask Erin if she could somehow shield us from view but judging from her slumped shoulders and giant yawns, even though she had a power boost from the guys to help her keep that shield up its obviously still taken a lot out of her. I know if I asked her to shield us though she would still try and I don’t want her to burn out, so we’re just going to hope that we can take out any guards that spot us before they can raise the alarm.
There shouldn’t be many left alive in the castle that will come to their aid but that doesn’t mean that there won’t be some patrolling the village or even some of the criminals that live here that won’t want to take a crack at controlling Centre’s and their Bonded mates. Two more guardsland on this side of the wall as Jax forces water down their throats drowning them and pulling them this side of the wall so no one gets curious and decides to investigate on the other one.
Kai launches himself off of his horse with his wings and flies straight for a guard getting to him just as he opens his mouth to sound the alarm, we carry on riding starting to move a bit quicker as Ghost and Knot do but I glance over my shoulder watching Kai toy with guard taking out some more of that rage he feels at the treatment of the Centre’s and all those who have lost their lives.
“Feel better?” I ask grinning as he lands back on his horse and Jax sends him a heated look, having watched what I did.
“Oh yeah. That will tide me over until I find some more Order fuckers.” He grins at us both.
