Page 241 of The Lost Ones
Suspiciously enough there doesn’t seem to be any guards walking along the length of it or even patrolling the edges. Not that I can see or sense anyway.
“Surely they can’t be that fucking arrogant that they don’t even bother to patrol the perimeter of the castle?” Nate says his voice hushed.
“At this point it wouldn’t surprise me. Let Harry check for hidden spells first though before we just climb it.” Kysen says.
“Good idea. I’ll get Ghost and Knot to fly along the wall too and see if there are any guards further along. They might just have less along here.”Sage adds.
I watch curiously as Harry pulls out a couple of stones from his backpack and mutters something under his breath, too quiet for me to hear. There’s a dim glow of magic as it disperses against the wall that we’re hoping to use to get over and into the castle.
“There’s nothing, not even a trace of magic.” Harry says sounding confused.
“That’s good isn’t it?” I ask.
“Yeah it is but it’s fucking suspicious.” Jett comments.
“Ghost and Knot didn’t spot any guards either.” Sage adds as they return.
“Lets not take any chances and get over there before a guard really does show up. I don’t want to risk us all burning out our energy out here before we can rescue them.” Levi says firmly.
“Got it boss.” I grin cheekily and he rolls his eyes at me.
“I’m going to send Ghost ahead to find us an entrance. Hopefully he will be able to alert us if there are any guards near as well.” Sage says.
As soon as she’s finished her sentence Ghost flies into the air and straight over the wall. Thank fuck there isn’t anything magical protecting the wall because Ghost would’ve just alerted everybody to his presence. Having said that he already got in once, although he was in his Ghosted form so I’m not sure if he would be detected anyway.
“Can you go and check the other side of the wall for us please, Knot?” Sage asks her other familiar who instantly does as she’s asked.
After a few moments of restlessly waiting we hear a caw from the other side of the wall and all of us turn to Sage waiting for a translation.
“She says its all clear.” Sage tells us grinning.
Me and Hunt stay on the ground as the others make their way up the wall, just in case anyone decides to sneak up on us or this is some sort of ambush. I have to admit it is so damn weird to be doing this sort of operation with no guns. Don’t get me wrong I am a massive fan of swords and actually would prefer to use sword instead of a gun if possible but I am used to using a gun and it feels strange not to have one.
When everyone’s finally over, me and Hunt climb up at the same time and I take advantage of my new super hearing, listening for anything that sounds off and signifies movement. Instead of climbing down the other side like I did on the last wall I jump off the top landing in a crouch and feeling like a goddamned super hero when I land it with no injury whatsoever. Its got to be at least a thirty foot drop.
“You’ve watched too many super hero movies.” Nate chuckles quietly.
“Come on, you have to admit that was pretty damn cool?” I retort and earn myself a scathing look from Levi as we slowly make our way through the dense woods that appear to be on this side of the wall.
“Quiet now.” He orders and I sober up nodding.
Ghost suddenly reappears in his misted form, I’m assuming that hefound a way to get us in as he starts to lead us diagonally from where we were originally walking.
“I think he’s found a way in but there might be a couple of guards. It’s the most viable option at least that’s what I can understand from him.”Sage sends down the Bond link and Levi nods.
“Be prepared.”He orders simply.
My heart beat pounds in my throat as my mouth gets as dry as a desert, we’re about to take the love of our lives into an extremely dangerous situation and although I know she can handle it, it still makes me anxious as fuck.
I take a deep breath and Kyle whose walking next to me glances at me curiously before his eyes fill with comprehension. He slows his pace slightly and I do the same.
“I get it dude. It’s fucking terrifying watching the person you love be in danger and even worse when its fucking voluntary.” He starts his eyes flicking to Erin. “But they can handle it and like fuck would any of us let anything happen to either one of them.”
“Thank you.” I reply simply.
Knowing that he gets it is a massive comfort and of course I know the others do too and would protect the girls and each other with their lives. Even Cole’s Bonded, I know very little about them but I do know that they’ve been chosen as Sage’s warriors for a reason.
I trust the goddess and the plan that she has for all of us.
