How is it possible that no one heard any of that?
“Well that was . . .” Kyle trails off scrubbing the back of his neck.
“Yeah.” Jax agrees, hopping from foot to foot, adrenalin obviously still riding him hard.
I look over my guys, checking for any major injuries. We’re all worse for wear bruised and bleeding in places but I don’t think there’s any serious injuries.
“Everyone ok?” Erin asks, her human glamour still dropped and I can’t help but take a moment to admire her gorgeous auburn and bright gold hair, her eyes an interesting shade of bright red with gold running through them in amazing patterns. She looks beautiful.
“Yeah I think we’re all good.” Jett answers and everyone makes affirmative noises in agreements.
“Before we all crash, which personally I can feel happening any second now, we may as well do what we came here to do and talk to Nicole. Maybe she has an idea of what the fuck just happened.” Levi suggests and we all follow him as he starts down the hallway.
“What number was it again?” He asks.
“Eleven, I think.” Erin says yawning as she threads her arm through Jett’s and lays her head on his arm.
Jax’s arm wraps around me and I lean into him, grateful for the extra support.
Chapter Sixteen
“Well that’s fucking fantastic!” Kai suddenly exclaims, making me jolt and I focus on him as he pulls a note off of the door. He’s finally managed to convince his wings to let him down but every now and then his feet lift slightly off the floor and he glares at them like they’ve got a mind of their own. For all I know they really do. It’s highly amusing and I keep having to try and I hide my smirk, the other’s not so subtle in their amusement.
“What’s wrong?” I ask groaning as I eye the note in his hand with trepidation, I’m not sure I can take much more right now.
“She’s not here!” Levi practically growls reading over Kai’s shoulder and I raise my eyebrow.
“Apparently something urgent came up and she can’t meet us. She says it’s unsafe and to try to stay under the radar as much as possible. Someone here is working for the wrong side but she hasn’t worked out who. Then she just says be careful. That’s it. Oh hang on,” Kai says as he turns the paper over and frowns, “apparently we all have horse riding lessons every day after school. No exceptions and it’s mandatory.” Kai shakes his head.
“That is such a weird request.” Jett says. “Sorry I mean order.” He adds sarcastically.
“I’m hardly surprised though if I’m honest. All she’s given us so far is cryptic words with what I’m beginning to suspect is mountains of hidden meanings and weird ass instructions.” I frown.
“That’s true but she hasn’t proven herself to be anything but honest.” Levi says, the voice of reason as always.
“Come on let’s get back to the rooms. I don’t know about you but my bed is starting to call to me pretty fucking hard.” Erin groans.
“Oh yeah definitely. Research and power practice can wait until tomorrow. I think our gifts have had enough of a workout tonight.” I agree wholeheartedly.
“As much as it’s going to suck major fucking ass, I think it might be a good idea to put our glamours back on, we don’t need any more attention right now.” Kyle suggests and we all groan but do as he suggests, seeingthat it will cause us less hassle in the long run.
Oh my god.
It’s like trying to pull on a suit of fucking tar that’s been pulled in the opposite direction at the same time. It’s hard work and takes a really long time for me to manage it and by the end of it I am bone tired and super fucking uncomfortable.
“Fuck that was hard.” Jax groans from beside me and I kiss him softly. Too tired to even verbally agree right now.
“The sooner we get back the sooner we can drop the glamours again.” Damon grumbles, even his voice is quiet and exhausted.
I quite honestly feel like I could sleep for a week and I know part of it is to do with putting the godawful human glamour back on.
We trudge slowly up to our room none of us moving as quickly as we want to but at the moment it’s impossible to move any faster.
As we get to our floor I can’t help but let lose an audible groan and curse as I see Rebecca and her Bonded walking down the hall in front of us.
Can we seriously not catch a break?
If she started something now I’d go down as easily as a wet piece of freaking paper. Fortunately the incident in the dining hall obviously was enough of a warning to make them at least cautious for the time being because they shoot us death glares but quickly enter the room directly opposite ours.
