Page 136 of The Lost Ones
“Whoops.” He shrugs, making me grin, “Sage was doing her magic fire thing and you had something going on that just looked like black smoke but I have no idea what it could do. We don’t want to explode the place so we all decided it was up to me to stop it since, you know water gift and we thought it was funny because . . . cold shower.” He chuckles.
“Dude you’re rambling.” Levi smirks, his hands flexing on my hips. “I get why you stopped us. Remind me to ask Mav to look up what that black smoke could be,” Levi starts.
“Already added it to the list of stuff we have to research!” Mav calls from the living area, amusement more than obvious in his tone.
“Thanks dude. Anyway, I get why you stopped us but was it necessary to practically drown us?” He chuckles raising an eyebrow.
Jax scrubs a hand on the back of his neck in a nervous gesture but has a cheeky grin on face.
“Well it was hot as fuck and then she made that noise. It affected my gifts too.” He shrugs, his grin widening and his eyes sparkling the silver and blue of his siren eyes glowing with his happiness.
I can’t help but chuckle at his response, Levi joining in.
“Fair enough, I can’t say that I wouldn’t have had the same reaction.” He leans down and gives me one last kiss letting me slide down his body before sauntering down the hallway and into one of the rooms. Presumably to shower.
My gaze switches back to Jax as he fidgets, his eyes glowing and his claw tipped fingers clenching as he starts to look uncomfortable.
“Are you ok?” I ask concerned taking a step towards him.
“I’m not sure. I just feel really antsy, itchy and as weird as it sounds, too dry.” He admits.
“Oh of course, you’re a siren. You need to be around water. Go and have a shower and see if that helps if not we’ll go and do some research. Didn’t the instructor in your specialist class mention anything?” I ask frowning.
“Nope. He just went on and on about how we’re superior.” He rolls his eyes his movements getting worse as a slight tremor takes over.
“Go and take a shower or better yet a bath so you’re completely immersed.” I push his shaking form into the nearest bedroom and lead him straight through to the bathroom.
He’s getting too shaky to stand so I guide him down onto the closed toilet as I move to the bath and turn the taps. It’s going to take a while to fill though and I know he needs contact with water right now, so I turn the shower on over the bath as well. Checking the temperature.
“Kai!” I call out and he pops up in the door way in seconds his feet hovering off the floor as his wings move lazily behind him.
He rolls his eyes as he looks at them. When his gaze lands on Jax though he rushes in, his eyes clouding with worry as he nears him just in time to stop Jax from falling forward.
“What’s wrong with him?” Kai says worriedly, gently moving Jax’s fringe off of his forehead and dipping so he can see his eyes.
His hand cradles Jax’s cheek and Jax leans into his touch, his eyes widening when he realises what he’s done but either he’s too drained to move or he just doesn’t want to. Kai frowns slightly as he registers where he’s got his hand and I can literally see the wheels turning in his head.
Well now that’s interesting. I smirk before forcibly bringing myself back to task.
“He needs to be in the water but he’s too weak to move himself.” I start to explain and I haven’t even finished my sentence before Kai has lifted him in an impressive show of strength considering that my men are in no way small.
He carefully moves over to the bath eyeing it for a second before he starts to toe off his shoes, still holding onto Jax. I rush to take off Jax’s boots knowing they’re his favourites and Kai steps into the bath with ease. Stepping directly into the spray of the shower. Jax watches Kai with an indecipherable look. From a bystander point of view it’s clear that they’ve just shared a moment and neither of them know how to handle it.
It’s cute as fuck.
Kai carefully helps Jax stand so that his feet are completely covered in the water still filling the bath and Jax stands further under the shower. The effect of the water is almost immediate and the shaking subsides as the glow in his eyes lessens as he stands taller. Kai stays for a couple of minutes longer than necessary before moving to step back, before he can get far Jax grabs his arm making Kai look at him. Jax searches his eyes intently before looking even more confused and letting go.
He watches as Kai gets out and kisses me on the cheek before moving past me and towards the door.
“Let me know if you need a hand.” He says as he leaves and I can feel the confusion rolling off of him in waves.
I turn back to Jax whose looking just as confused.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I ask softly.
“I don’t even know what just happened.” He admits.
“Well I’m here if you figure it out and need to talk to someone.” I say smiling softly.
