Page 113 of The Lost Ones
Sure enough I can feel at least four.
“Yes. As to why Annie is so, lets call it shocked shall we?” She smirks rolling her eyes before continuing, “Well it’s because to put it bluntly it simply doesn’t happen in Soulmate Bonded groups. The only way for you to be a higher demon usually would be if either both your parents were higher level demons or as is more common, you had fought your way up the ranks in the demon realm. The point is, no demon that was not born or raised in the demon world should be able to be one and certainly not one that is part of a Soulmate Bonded group.” She looks over us critically for a moment as I try to absorb the information she’s just given me, “I have a feeling that none of you are going to be what is considered normal for a Soulmate Bonded group. Not even Sage is behaving in a way that would be considered normal and that’s taking into account that I’m one of the only people that know the reason why her gifts were bound in the first place. Rest assured that the Director is not aware and her parents have made sure that it remains that way. I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that they think she is an adopted Centre they found as a baby.”
We gape at her. Her parents made up that story which is pretty freaking important information for us all to have and didn’t bother telling us?
“That’s going to be a fun conversation with Sage!”Kai growls over the bond.
We all share a loaded look agreeing completely.
“I demand to know what is going on in there!?” The Director screeches, “Why can’t I get in there!”
I can’t help but let lose a low warning growl several of the others now echoing me.
None of us can stand her.
“I’ll go and deal with her and check on Erin, Jett and the others. I’m sure they’re absolutely fine. Sage, and you boys actually, threw off a hell of a lot of power and it was probably too much for their human bodies to handle so their bodies automatically shut down and put them into a healing sleep. They will be fine after a bit of rest.” She reassures us leaving us to walk over to deal with the Director first.
Sage groans and she instantly has one hundred percent of our attention, her magic disappears and we all move closer laying a hand on wherever we can reach. I know I need the reassurance that she’s unharmed. Iopen my mouth to ask if she’s ok but no words come out as I’m stunned into silence as soon as she opens her usually gorgeous grey eyes. Instead of grey though they’re dark almost black with purple around the edges gradually getting lighter until they reach the middle and turn gold. The gold looks like a sunburst as tiny streams flow out from the centre and through the purple.
They are so completely and utterly beautiful that they take my breath away.
Surprisingly they suit her and don’t look out of place at all. It’s like we can finally see beneath the mask that she’s worn for all these years.
She’s clearly studying us as well and I get slightly nervous wondering what she will think, she doesn’t look frightened at least. She jokes with the guys and Hunter’s wolf obviously proving that she really isn’t scared of us. I love just absorbing these moments and I enjoy it until her mystic eyes widen and she panics.
Sage
“Fuck!” I exclaim.
Mad at myself for getting distracted by the guys. Honestly though I challenge anyone not to get distracted by my guys in their supernatural forms. No one would fare any better than me.
“Are Erin and the guys ok?” I ask worriedly.
I start to get up and Levi puts an arm around me effortlessly lifting me up.
“Easy Darling. We don’t want you going down again.” He says his deep voice concerned.
I nod but still continue to rush forwards towards Erin as the guys follow me obviously not wanting to move away from me now. I glance around noticing the Director stood by one of the huge stone plinths and, no shit, is pouting like a petulant child as two out of three of Nicole’s men stand near her. I’m not clear whether they are guarding her or stopping her from approaching us for whatever reason. I have a feeling it’s the latter but either way I’m glad she’s all the way over there right now. Scanning the area I see Nicole crouched down next to Erin and rush in that direction, it’s taking me longer than I’d like to get there if I’m honest.
“Is she ok?” I call out and gasp as soon as I get a good look at her.
“They are all fine. However it appears that you somehow managed to set their supernatural sides free as well!” She says sounding awestruck.
“Does that mean they’re a part of our Soulmate Bond too?” Maverick asks.
I just gap at her in stunned silence.
Crazy lady say what now?
“No. Perhaps I phrased that wrong. Before the ritual they were very definitely all human. Not part of a Soulmate Bond. That’s not something that can be missed or hidden. When your magic released and set your Soulmates supernatural sides free, it turned Erin, Jett, Nate and the others into supernaturals and I believe into a Soulmate Bonded group.” Nicole explains, looking up at me in shock. “It’s utterly impossible and has never happened before in the history of our kind.”
Suddenly something that the goddess said just before she sent me back whispers through my mind.
“Erin and her men will become your greatest supporters, protectors and of course friends.”
“Why do you suddenly look less confused than the rest of us?”Hunter asks me through our bond.
“I’ll explain it later. I just want to make sure that they are all really ok though. They need to be there for the explanation anyway!”I send back and they nod.
