Lionel seems proud that I recalled him too. “Did Alpha Liam show you the lake already?”

I nod, smiling warmly. “Liam took me there tonight. He wanted me to see it when the moonlight shines on it.”

Aurelia tilts her head, eyeing me curiously. “You really like Liam, right?”

“Yes, of course.” I flush slightly.

Unfortunately, the talk has sparked the others’ interest too. “He is so cool,” Tori beams. “So tall, muscular, and manly. He doesn’t talk much, but that makes him hot.”

I grin. I bet a few years ago, I would have said the same. No, wait… I said something similar once to Ella… about Alpha Cedric. Goddess, why do I need to remember all these embarrassing moments? My crush on Alpha Cedric was one of them.

“And strong,” Nox adds. “Almost as strong as Alpha Elden.”

“I wish I were a Lycan too,” Lionel sighs dramatically.

“You don’t need to be a Lycan to be strong,” Aurelia says evenly.

“But your wolves are so strong,” Terry points out. “That’s cool.”

“Strong,” I muse. “But also hard to rein in.”

Aurelia’s ever-so-aware eyes look at me now. Her gaze verifies it for me. She has a strong wolf, too, one that is hard to tackle. Probably not as strong as Fenris, still… She nods tentatively. “It’s not always easy to control them,” she agrees before smiling slightly. “But I love my girl. Wouldn’t want it any other way.”

“What do you like about Liam?” Tori asks curiously.

I decide to be honest with them. “He treats me like we are on the same level. We are not, I know that, but his respect for me means a lot.” I pause then decide to change the topic before the kids ask even more private questions. “Say, Aurelia. I noticed that your mother’s Gamma shares your name. He is called Aurel, isn’t he? Is that coincidence?”

“Oh, you noticed!” she beams. “Aurel saved my life when I was still in my mother’s womb. She was heavily pregnant with me when she decided to go for a walk. Rogues attacked them, and her Beta at the time was killed protecting her. Thankfully, Aurel heard the commotion. He was a normal pack warrior back then. He found her and saved her life. He nearly died, but survived. Dad made him Gamma and my mother’s protector after that. And Mom decided to name me after him to honor his courage.” She smiles proudly. “I love being named after a hero.”

We chat for a few more minutes before I decide it’s time to go back to bed and make sure the kids are going home too. “All right,” I say tiredly. “I should go back now before Liam starts looking for me.”

“Hey Annie,” Aurelia flushes a bit. “Are you going to tell anyone that you saw us here?”

I blink in confusion.

The young wolves look at me warily. It strikes me again that they are not allowed to be out here at this time of night. Liam is not only their brother, but he is also their soon-to-be Alpha and of a higher rank. He won’t let it slide or keep it hidden from his father.

“My father would punish us,” she explains honestly. “He doesn’t like the minors strolling around the pack grounds without any protection.”

One of the guys grimaces slightly. I can only imagine what kind of punishment they would receive.

I raise my eyebrows a bit. It reminds me of how I snuck out with some of the pack wolves at their age. I didn’t do it often. I was too much of an obedient, good kid. But it’s part of growing up to sometimes stretch the rules.

“As long as you go home now.”

Aurelia’s eyes light up. “Thank you,” she whispers before she jumps from the railing. “Let’s go home, guys,” she commands. She throws me one last grateful glance before she leaves into the night. “I’m glad Liam found you as his mate.”

I chuckle slightly as I go back inside, quietly walking back to the bedroom.

“You were gone,” Liam mutters when I lie back down before draping his arm around me. “Anything happen?”

“No,” I say with a smile.

“Why do I get the feeling my cute mate is lying?”

I chuckle, peppering him with soft kisses. “Unless you want one of your siblings to get whipped or punished, I would stop inquiring further.”

“Oh goodness, don’t make me an ally,” he groans. “Forget that I asked.”
