I nod. “Lay it on me.”
“I want you to have a guard. I will have a few of my warriors watch you, and I will send Aryanna to you. She can help you prepare, as you call it. She is strong, and I trust her, and I have the feeling you get along well.” He pauses. “I want you to move into my apartment.”
“I’d love to,” I admit.
He looks happy at my words, nodding in relief. “Actually, my father and I bought another apartment – my siblings might need it too eventually when they go to college. Besides, Dad’s not comfortable with having Finn stay in the dorm either, knowing what happened to you.”
I nod tentatively, wondering where he is going with his thoughts.
“The thing is, I’m confident I can protect you as long as I’m here with you, but because of pack business, I can’t be here all the time. I want you to stay at the backup apartment with Aryanna whenever I’m not here. Another roommate would be good, too… three wolves are hard to overpower in a surprise attack. What about your friend, Ella? Maybe she wants to move in with Aryanna?” He shows me a crooked smile. “Don’t take Dave with you, though.”
“Because he is a guy or a human?” I tease.
“Both,” he answers honestly. “Emerson assured me that he is not a threat, but you’re not marked yet, and I can’t keep Fenris in check if you live with another guy. Aside from that, yes, he is human, and his body won’t heal if you get attacked.”
“So, whenever you’re not in town, I’m staying with Ella and Ari?” I ask. “Are you really okay with that much effort for a few weeks?” I blush. “Liam, it’s possible I’m only staying two weeks before you take me to your pack.”
“That would be the best-case scenario,” he grins. “The moment you say the word, be prepared for me to kidnap you to my pack.”
I giggle. What Liam doesn’t know is that I have plans of my own… I actually want him to mark me before I move to his pack. I haven’t told him yet. It’s supposed to be a little surprise for him, but I think I feel ready for it now.
My heart swells with love for him each day a bit more. “I agree with all of your conditions.”
“You do?” he looks at me in surprise. “I thought you would want to stay with how things are now.”
“No way,” I chuckle. “My life has become so much richer since I met you, and I want to be with you as much as possible. Sure, I wish I could remain in my bubble a bit longer, but I know I can’t.” I've run from the truth the past few weeks. I’m his mate, and I accepted him as mine. I love him, and I want to be with him.
“Actually, I’m looking forward to being your roommate,” he smirks. “That’s going to be fun. Once we make it official, we won’t have privacy anymore. We’ll move to the packhouse then. While I do have my suite there – our suite – there is probably going to be lots of work, lots of pack members wanting to meet you…and my family.”
Now that the negotiations are over, I feel the tension leaving the room. He reaches out a hand towards me, and I take it with a relieved sigh as I stand up to approach him. He wraps an arm around my waist to pull me on his lap.
He seems to ponder over something, so I decide to nudge him a bit. “What’s wrong?” I nuzzle my nose into his hair.
“Annalise, you are my mate. I don’t want to pressure you and use what happened as an excuse.” He pauses. “But don’t you want to make it official at all? I’m not talking about coming to our pack but concerning our parents. Is there a reason you don’t want me?”
“I…” I look at him in surprise. “I absolutely want you! Why would you think otherwise?”
“A guy can be insecure too.” He takes my hand. “I want you to meet my parents.”
My eyes widen. Lord Elden and Luna Flora? I swallow down my insecurities. There is no way to avoid this. One of the reasons I have not been pushing Liam into marking me is because of my insecurities. It’s the main reason holding me back, and I hate it. Time to learn to let them go.
“I want you to meet my parents too,” I admit quietly. “I, I told them already.”
“You told them about me?” he asks, and to my surprise, he sounds happy. Surprised, but happy.
I nod sheepishly. “Of course, I did. Liam… I… If you want to do it now, to mark me, I’m here. I want you, always.”
He smiles warmly at me and pulls me into a kiss. “I want it to be perfect. You said you want more time to settle into your new path. That’s fine, but then I want you to be mine fully.”
“Isn’t it going to hurt you to wait?”
He chuckles. “It’s not particularly fun, but Lycans can handle it better,” he admits. “Fenris is impatient, but since you accepted us as your mate, we are not weakened by not being with you all the time.”
“Is this the reason I’m not feeling weak either?” I want to know. “I mean, I feel the mate bond pulling me towards you. I miss you. I long for you, but…”
He nods. “We are strong by nature. However, mating will make us even stronger. It will bring out our full potential… similar to how it is for normal wolves. Well, just a bit different. Our wolves’ minds work a bit different.”
I take my time to let his words sink in. “Liam, would you tell me about your rank in our world? I know you are a Lycan Prince, I know the history, but I don’t know what it really means.”
