I hide my grin. I’m pretty sure I know what she’s going to say.
“I went to his office, blew him, and rode his dick,” she explains casually. Marilou blushes furiously while Ella groans.
“Why did I even ask?” Ella mutters.
Flora puts an arm around Ella and Marilou, squeezing them lightly. “You will learn too, girls. Male wolves are always extremely horny. Right, Annie? The best way to an Alpha’s mind is to seduce him. It always works.”
“Well,” I mutter. “She’s not wrong.”
“Hah!” Flora exclaims proudly while Ella and Marilou grimace.
“What happened to my innocent Annie,” Ella whines.
Flora nudges her. “Oh, maybe you should rather worry about yourself? Dante is a very handsome and loyal man. I can see the way he looks at you. Now that he has joined Red Claw, you have no excuses left anymore to avoid him.”
“I’m not avoiding-”
“Is it the age?” Flora asks in worry.
“Why does everyone think it’s about age?” Ella groans in frustration. “Like… that’s the last thing to worry about. I’m twenty-one, and I know what I want. What the heck would I do with an 18-year-old kid who is still figuring his life out!? Biggest lust-killer ever!”
“You are a special case,” I point out. “The others don’t know how you are and how fast you had to grow up. With anyone else, I might have been worried a bit too.”
Marilou eyes Ella in awe. “Beta Dante is your mate, Beta Ella? That’s like a fairy-tale,” she beams. “An Alpha and his Luna. And their Betas are mates too.”
“What about you, Marilou?” Ella skilfully dodges the question. “You are fifteen, right?”
Marilou nods and looks down at her fingers shyly. “I hope once I turn eighteen, I’ll find my mate too.”
Goddess, she’s so sweet. “We will make sure that the unmated wolves of Red Claw can attend the usual balls and festivals held for unmated wolves,” I proclaim.
“Isn’t that only for high-ranking wolves? Alpha Marcus never allowed anyone of lesser rank to go off pack grounds. He said we aren’t worthy of a strong mate and should rather focus on our work. He didn’t like that I read romance stories and tore my books apart once before beating me mercilessly.”
I exchange a look with Flora before taking Marilou’s hands. “These balls and parties are for all wolves, no matter the rank. Your former Alpha was an evil man, lost completely in his madness. There is no excuse for how he treated you. You can read whatever you want to, and have dreams bigger than this pack . Your feelings are yours alone. And your future mate? Daydream as much about him as you want. You’re worthy of any mate, no matter their rank. Do you understand, dear?”
She blinks her tears away and smiles before she nods.
“We are finished, Luna Annalise,” she says after a while, looking around proudly. We have filled baskets with fresh cookies, cans of coffee, and tea. And I’ve organized herbal teas, scented candles, chocolates, bath salts and other self care items.
The next hours will be tough. I know it, but I have to do it. “Do you want me to come with you?” Flora asks softly.
I shake my head, smiling thankfully. “I… I think I need to do this alone,” I explain.
She nods her understanding.
“I’ll come, obviously.” Ella points out in a matter-of-fact tone. I still need to get used to her new role.
I nod before calling Jun. He has been waiting for us in front of the kitchen door, mainly not to scare Marilou in case she was a victim of sexual assault too. He helps me gather a few wolves to help us carry the baskets to the infirmary. I ask them to leave everything in front of the door of the top floor of the infirmary before sending them off again. Only Jun stays behind. “I’ll wait here,” he tells us, obviously not liking that he couldn’t come inside with me. “Please link me in case something happens, Beta Ella.”
Ella nods. “Of course.” She pauses. “Why don’t you call me Ella, though? Let’s be a good team.”
He seems to like the idea. “Then just call me Jun too, please.”
I’ve barely listened to their chit-chat. I’m too focused on the task ahead. This will be difficult, I know it. I can feel their pain and sadness already. That’s the downside of being their Luna. I open the door leading to the more private part of the infirmary. Nurses are buzzing around. Again, I’m eternally grateful for Elden’s help… Some of the nurses are from Silverlake, helping us out until things here are under control. Elden and Flora went out of their way to help us… It can’t be that easy on Elden, considering he has just lost his heir, and also Dante and Aryanna, who were responsible for major parts of the pack training. But he still shows his love for his family, generosity and support.
There is a certain quietness lying in the infirmary area despite the nurses’ activity. The walls are painted in white and pastel colors. Everything radiates comfort. In better days, this used to be the place where women gave birth, right?I link Ella. It’s fantastic that we can finally do that.
Yes, from what I’ve heard. It’s the only nice place here.
