“I don’t know what to do. How should I react? What if he doesn’t want me? What am I supposed to do? What- “
Ella turns her head. “Well,” she stutters. “Think of something fast because here he comes.”
My heart’s racing so much that I am sure every wolf in the freaking room can hear it. I continue staring at the ground, too scared to look at him. Finn is one thing, but Lord Liam?
There are perfectly polished shoes in front of me all of a sudden. My heart beats so loud that I can’t hear anything. It’s like my ears block every other sound. My mind tells me to run away from him, but Leah pushes me further forward. I have to fight every fiber of my body not to seek his touch. Not to touch him. Not to allow my wolf to take over and throw myself into his arms.
Two long fingers suddenly cup my chin and lift my head a bit. Then I look directly into the ice-blue eyes of Liam Alcott, Lycan and future Alpha of the Silverlake pack. He scans my face. The cold stare from when he entered the hall is gone. Instead, he looks curious, and fascinated. His face is still expressionless, though, whereas my face probably gives everything away…
“Of course, I had to lose against my brother,” I can hear Finn’s voice from the side. It sounds soft, though, warm… and slightly amused.
I can’t bring myself to react to his words. I am too caught up in the way Liam looks at me. It’s like I am drowning in his eyes.
Liam finally breaks eye contact, looking at his brother and Ella. “Would you excuse us?” he asks calmly.
Ella nods. “Of course, we will excuse you anytime. As long as you want to. Come on, Finn… there is something important we wanted to… eh… talk about, remember?” She grabs Finn’s arm and tugs him along. Before she leaves, though, she turns to me, giving me the thumbs up.
“Your name, mate?” Liam asks.
“Annalise Preston,” I stammer. “But, but you can call me Annie. Or not. Or Annalise. Whatever you want.”
What the heck am I rambling on about!?
“I am Liam Alcott.”
“Yes, I, I know,” I stutter.
He is so strong,Leah growls.Look at his arms. His shoulders. Tall, strong mate. Perfect for us.
I can see that,I reply nervously. I feel like a hobbit next to him.But are we perfect for him?
He was made for us,she argues. And we were made for him.
I have a hard time believing this. How can a plain Omega without any powers be made for a strong, stunning Lycan and Alpha like Liam? It has to be a mistake.
“Let’s leave,” Liam says suddenly. His voice is deep, sending a shiver down my spine.
Again, I feel panic rising inside me. I thought he would reject me on the spot. But maybe he wants to take me somewhere private to save him from all the drama of doing it in public. He has a reputation to keep, after all. “I… am here with friends,” I mutter, not ready to be rejected by my mate the second I meet him.
“I am sure they’ll understand,” Liam states. His eyes scan me again. Something in them darkens. “But if I can’t get you out of here immediately, I can’t guarantee for my wolf to hold back any longer. They are looking at you,” his voice is more of a rumble now, almost as if his wolf growls. “Too many of them are looking at you.”
That doesn’t particularly sound like a rejection. I try to connect to Leah, but she is out of it, apparently linking to Liam’s wolf already. Maybe Liam is just toying with us? Maybe he wants to tease and play with me before rejection? “Uhm,” I start.
Wow, perfect timing to sound unintelligible.
“You want me to claim you right here?” Liam asks in a matter-of-fact tone.
I blink in surprise. How can he say something like that with such a straight face? “No!” I blurt out.
“Then let’s go,” he says firmly, taking my hand and tugging me along to the exit. He turns shortly to look at me. “That dress suits you wonderfully, my mate.”
The spot where his hand touches mine burns and sends tingles and jolts through my body. It’s so intense that I can hardly breathe. Claim… he said he wants to claim me. Now? Today? I feel panic rising in me again. It’s too soon. I can’t! I haven’t even digested yet that he is my mate!
Liam leads me to a huge black car with tinted windows. He opens the car's back door, waiting for me to take my seat before he follows.
He rests his hand on my knee, sending more jolts of heat through my body, and leans forward towards his driver. “Get us away from here.”
“Anywhere specific, Lord Liam?”
