“It’s good that there are things we don’t know,” Flora tells him with a smile. “It’s natural not to know everything.”
He raises his brows. “Well, for me,” he teases. “As for you, I have my doubts.”
She giggles and clings to his arm.
Eventually, we all make it back to the packhouse. The elders retreat to the guest suites to rest as the ritual was exhausting for them. Liam and I go back to our suite too. I feel tired and tomorrow will be the official ceremony for the pack. “I’m so happy, Liam,” I tell him when he pulls me in his arms, and I snuggle against him.
“Really?”
“I want to cherish every moment with you,” I say, still basking in the light the Council and the goddess blessed me with.
“We will,” he promises. “You’re the light of my life.” He smiles at me. “Do you feel any different?”
“No,” I chuckle. “I’m still the same as before. I just leveled up a bit.”
He smiles. “That’s one way to put it. And tomorrow, you’ll officially be a Princess of the Council.”
“And you, a Prince of the Council.” I grin. “Do you think your father will agree to become King?”
“Who knows?” my mate grins shamelessly. “It seems like Elder Samuel can be quite convincing.”
I remember the glimpse of the future I saw with Elden and Flora claiming the throne. I know Elden might be against it for now, but who knows what the future will bring?
Chapter sixty-four
Chapter 64 The Inauguration Ceremony
*LIAM*
Thisisprobablythemost important day in my life for many people… At the end of this inauguration ceremony, this Royal Lycan will become an official representative of the Council. I can’t even wrap my head around it!
Personally though, I think the most important day of my life was when I met Annalise. Or when we became Alpha and Luna of Red Claw. The birth of my siblings. The future births of my pups one day. Annalise’s and my wedding which will happen in a few months. These dates have and will always be more important to me.
When the Council blessed Annalise, it was a truly heart-warming and beautiful ceremony, a deep and important moment for her and me. But as Samuel said, the crowning ceremony in front of the pack and guests is more a show for them and nothing of significant importance to us, as we are already blessed. It’s an outdoor ceremony so that everyone from the pack can attend without having to squeeze themselves into a room.
I can’t help but feel a bit touched by the whole event, though. My parents look so happy, and my new pack is radiating their proudness. A strong Alpha also makes the pack strong; and I think they suddenly realized just how powerful Annie and I are. It’s been forever since a Lycan took over a werewolf pack.
I'll go through the motions for them. As one of the representatives of the Council of Lycans, Samuel leads us through the ceremony. I am without Annalise for the beginning of it, as I need to be coronated as the official Alpha of Red Claw. Annalise will be called out soon… thankfully. I always feel more comfortable in my skin during such events when she is around. Samuel starts with a long introduction about the Lycan lineage and werewolf history, my family’s history and alike. Out of the corner of my eyes, I can see Marius rolling his eyes slightly.
At least try to hide how bored you are,I link him.
Fuck Liam, the dude is talking forever. The people are here for the food, gossip, and to look at some hot Alphas and Lunas, not to hear an hour-long story about how awesome our family and other royals are.
I might hate his attitude sometimes, but I agree with him on this. Our actions should prove who we are, not our name and rank.
Eventually, they hand me a golden knife. I take it, cutting my palm and pledging my loyalty to Red Claw and to the Council. At this point, I could swear my father has tears in his eyes, and my siblings look at me proudly. Amidst the crowd, I can see our friends and allies. Jace and his pack officials are there, cheering for me. Then there are Alpha Cedric, Celine and Annalise’s family, expecting Annalise’s turn to come. Rosalee and Brian have Dave next to them, keeping him secluded from the other wolves. He is watching everything through wide eyes.
Dante and Ari are right behind me. As the pack’s Betas, they have to stand with me and speak their oaths. Lycans take their Betas’ opinions very seriously and hold them in high regard, which is why they are part of the ceremony. Ella and Jun will also need to participate once Annalise’s turn comes up.
I can barely contain my relief when my part is over, and Samuel calls for my mate and Luna to come forward.
“We welcome Annalise Preston” he says, quieting the crowd and cheering for me and my Betas. “Alpha Liam’s fated mate and Luna of Red Claw.”
I don’t know what I expected because Annalise always looks beautiful to me. But this time, it’s different. This time she catches everyone’s eye and attention. She appears on the stage wearing a flowy dream made out of gold. Her hair is shorter again, revealing her stunning shoulders and neck, clearly showing my mark. Her skin is showing through some parts of the sheer material of the dress, but without revealing too much. Fuck, with that dress and the delicious tone of her skin, she looks like an angel. A strong, beautiful, and dignified angel.
I can see how the crowd looks at her wide-eyed, whispering silently. Some even take photos of her.
I reach out my hand to take hers, leading her next to me. Ella and Jun follow behind her. I don’t even know what Samuel is saying. All I can hear is Annalise speaking her oath with her clear and steady voice, not wavering a bit. She also doesn’t wince when she cuts her palm, swearing her loyalty to Red Claw and the Council, accepting her new role as a Princess; and officially accepting me as her Alpha and future Crown Prince.
