Page 104 of An Omega for the Lycan Prince
“Think of our training,” Aurelia yells. “Even without our wolves, we are strong.”
There is more shooting, more yelling and cries. I see Nox drop to the ground. He scoots up again, though, tugging at one of the guy’s legs, making him fall down. He is above him, strangling him. Then another shot.
Nox drops over to the ground, not moving anymore.
“Fast,” one of the men huffs. “Seems like their backup is on the way.”
I see them overpower Aurelia. A bunch of men against a teenage girl. They should be ashamed. I try to run towards her, to help her – she is Liam’s sister. I can’t allow her to get hurt or, worse, to get killed.
However, one of the men catches me, and one dude grabs me by the throat, pulling me up. I try to scratch him, kick him with my good leg. Then there is something against my neck. A needle.
Everything goes black around me.
Chapter thirty-one
Chapter 31 Gone
*LIAM*
Noxmindlinkedus, telling us he heard Annalise crying for help, and he and Aurelia were rushing to her side. I swear to the Moon Goddess that I have never moved that fast. Fenris’ paws are basically flying over the ground; I am particularly fast as a Lycan. Dante is right behind me, one of the very few wolves who can keep up with my pace aside from my father. Nox linked all the warriors at once, so I can soon feel a bigger commotion around me, the scents of my fellow wolves and Lycans filling my nostrils. My father and a group of our warriors burst through the trees and join Dante and me from the other side.
I lead my group further into the forest when I suddenly feel pain shooting through my body.
She is hurt. They hurt her!
I have tried to mind link Annalise, but there is nothing. I tried it with Ari too… again, nothing. The link to Nox and Aurelia is gone as well. This is bad. I curse under my breath. How on earth could this have happened on our pack grounds!?
I assume our attackers have either used wolfsbane or some sort of spell as it’s impossible to catch any scents at all; not even Fenris can smell anything. My father thinks the same, ordering the group to split up and head in different directions to make sure we don’t miss anything.
I pick up my pace, soon leaving everyone else behind.
The first one I find is Aryanna. Dante and I stumble over her, unable to detect her scent before seeing her. There is blood oozing from a wound on her leg and her stomach, and dark bruises are forming on her face. She crawls over the ground, barely able to move. There are three bodies scattered around her. “Liam,” she pants, pointing west. “She ran in that direction. They followed her. They had wolfsbane and goddess knows what else.”
Colby, stay with her! Take her to the infirmary.I command one of the warriors who followed me before I link the others.Did you hear what she said?
Yes,my father growls.
Why are we not affected by the wolfsbane fully? I can’t smell much, but other than that, all my senses work just fine. That’s Dante.
I pick up my pace even further. Fenris is fast, and he is pissed.
It’s probably because the young Luna and the others inhaled so much. It’s not affecting us much because it’s not around us anymore. It’s just lingering in the air.Vincent’s voice echoes through my mind. But Calvin knows more about these things.
True.My father’s second Beta, Calvin, chimes in. He is a strong Lycan with incredible gifts that allow him to eliminate any traces. He has saved more than one pack member from being found out by humans. He is a pro at mind games. If anyone can guess what happened, then it’s him. It’s hard to do, but it is possible to spray an area with wolfsbane. It’s easier to inject with a needle or consume through food, but if done correctly… it is possible. You would need another substance, though, to make sure it stays in your enemy’s system. It’s not the perfect way for a spontaneous attack though. You would barely notice the wolfsbane at first because the change is subtle until you are amidst it. Which means it was a trap. They inhaled a lot of it. That’s why their scent is still covered.
Those fuckers, I can hear Fenris growling and howling inside me. They probably spied on us for months to know when and how to pull this stunt off.
I pause for a moment, my nostrils flaring.Blood.
Where?
West of the Silver Lake,I hiss, following the trail of blood. It’s human blood. Probably one of the men. Weird that the group had humans with them. Maybe Ari hurt him when he passed her, and the wound opened here. Good girl.
I follow the trail until…
Shit,I curse, the image in front of me imprinting itself in my mind. I can’t stop myself, can’t control my thoughts enough for the others not to see it through the link.
There is so much blood. And two bodies… wait… my sister!
