Page 29 of An Omega for the Lycan Prince
Dave clears his throat, nodding in the direction of the door. “Talking about drama. Look who is coming.”
I shift my gaze to see a well-known graceful beauty approaching us. She really is perfect, I think. Tall, regal, athletic. She never wastes many words, though, and she hardly smiles. It’s exactly how one envisions an Alpha’s daughter.
“What does she want?” Ella furrows her brow.
“She stood up for me,” I say, jumping to her defense.
“Did she though?” Finn frowns. “I think you pretty much stood up for yourself. She was just annoyed that this Lauren-dumbhead pulled her into her drama. Not that I can blame her.”
“At least let’s listen to what she has to say.” I point out firmly.
Ella shrugs. “Fine with me.”
Celine stops in front of our table. “Hello, Lord Finn,” she greets Finn first as the protocol demands it. “Hello Annie, Ella, Dave.” For a split second, I can see the surprise in Ella’s eyes. She didn’t expect Celine to even know her name. Honestly, I didn’t either. “Annie, I am sorry for disturbing your meeting with your friends.”
“It’s okay,” I smile. “We are just having coffee.”
“Listen,” Celine sighs. “I wanted to apologize on behalf of Lauren. She won’t do it herself, and it doesn’t sit right with me that she won’t.” There is a hint of annoyance in her voice and clear displeasure in her eyes.
“What?” Ella’s eyes widen.
“Yes, it’s unbelievable indeed.” Celine frowns. “I don’t know what got into her, behaving like this and not even having the backbone to apologize.”
“That’s not what I am surprised about…” Ella stutters.
“She had no right to say what she did,” Celine looks at me. There is no dishonesty in her eyes. She is not looking away. Seeing her up close, I notice the muscles of her arms. She probably trains a lot to be ready to take over the pack one day. She is in a difficult position, as she is only a she-wolf. Usually, packs are led by men, but Alpha Cedric’s second child, his son, died during labor. Celine is his only child. She is taller than the average she-wolf, and I have seen her take on most of our male warriors during training. She is strong, and it’s rumored she has some handy gifts, probably because she is an Alpha wolf. That’s not what surprises me, though. As the Alpha’s daughter, there was no need for her to go out of her way and approach me. I am just an Omega, and she is almost on top of our hierarchy. She stood up for me in front of Liam… with that, her duty was fulfilled. The fact that she approaches me now and apologizes despite her status and rank. It’s… surprising, to say the least. “She went too far. It is my fault for reacting so late.”
I look at her in surprise again. She blames herself for her friend’s behavior.
“Must suck to have such a shitty friend, doesn’t it?” Dave says bluntly – as he always does. He blinks when Ella elbows him and throws him a glare. No matter her previous words, Celine is still an Alpha. Ella clearly doesn’t want Dave to upset Celine.
To our surprise, though, Celine just shrugs. “You have no idea.”
“How come you have such a dimwit as a friend?” Finn presses. “Should be below your standards. You don’t seem half bad.”
She frowns when she looks at Finn, something flashes in her eyes. “I take that as a compliment,” she growls.
He raises his hands in defense. “Absolutely.”
“Do you want to have coffee with us?” I interrupt her, mainly to diffuse the tension. The last thing I want is two Alphas having a power stand-off.
She looks torn for a moment. “I don’t know. I really don’t want to interrupt your meeting.”
“I don’t mind,” Dave smiles brightly. Obviously, he couldn’t care less for our hierarchy. “I always wanted to know your secret. You have the perfect hair!”
To my surprise, Ella shrugs. She eyes Celine in interest. “I don’t mind either.”
When Celine turns to look at Finn, he nods.
“Don’t worry,” I smirk. “Finn fears creating drama. Liam told me their father doesn’t like them stirring shit up. Apparently, he is pretty strict.”
When Finn throws me a scandalized look, Ella and Dave start to giggle. “Oh, really?” Dave grins. “What other juicy details did Liam tell you?”
“Tell us more secrets, Annie,” Ella giggles.
Finn groans, and suddenly the tension dissipates. Celine chuckles in amusement and sits down between Dave and me. She looks… happy. She doesn’t seem to mind that Dave is Human. She even talks to him.
Finn watches in interest. “I see a pattern,” he finally concludes.
