It should be a scary feeling, but it isn’t. It's actually a relief knowing there's someone out there who can bring out the real me.
“It’s a girl, right? They had a daughter?” Dante asks when we reach Emerson’s cottage.
I nod. “They called her Fleur. This is the first time I’m seeing her. Daisy wasn’t feeling too well after giving birth.” I pause for a moment. “You don’t have to do this, Dante.”
“I know,” he says quietly. “But I want to.”
“If it gets too much, link me and step out.”
He nods. “Emerson’s happiness is not going to hurt me, though.” He pauses. “Well, maybe a bit. But I can still feel happy for him. It’s difficult to explain.”
Emerson is already waiting for us in front of his cottage. “I’m honored you come to visit me, Lord Liam.” Emerson’s eyes shine with pride and joy. It’s rare to see him like that.
“There is no way I wouldn’t,” I say warmly.
“Come on in,” he says, leading the way. Dante and I follow him until we are in the cozy living room. Daisy sits in a rocking chair, rocking the baby back and forth. She looks pale and tired. I link Emerson instantly. Is she still not feeling well?
She is feeling better,Emerson explains. She lost a lot of blood during labor.
Did our pack doctor look at her?
Yes, she just needs a bit more time to recover.A pause. She is a bit touchy, though. Please, Alpha Liam, if she says something to upset you or reacts over-emotionally, it’s… it’s…
There is no need to explain or apologize,I interrupt him softly.Dante and I will not put any more discomfort on her.
Dante nods his agreement.
Daisy looks up at us, smiling slightly, but it’s a strained smile. “Congratulations, Daisy and Emerson,” I bend down a bit. “May I?” I ask warmly.
She nods, her eyes wide. She has probably never seen me so careful and soft.
“You have made a wonderful little miracle,” I say once I can see the little bundle in her arms.
Daisy’s eyes shine at my words. “She is wonderful, isn’t she?”
“What’s her name?”
“Fleur.”
“Such a beautiful name,” I smile. “Daisy and Fleur.” I chuckle softly. “Apparently, it’s your fate Emerson to be surrounded by beautiful flowers.”
Emerson smiles brightly. “Hardly a difficult fate.”
“I hope I’ll be as lucky as you one day,” I tell him honestly.
“Do you want to hold her?” Daisy asks.
I nod. I may suck at interactions with people, but I’m the older brother to five younger siblings. I know how to hold a baby. Daisy stands up, carefully putting Fleur into my arms.
The baby looks even tinier in my big arms.
“Suits you well,” Dante teases.
“I agree,” Emerson smiles softly, putting an arm around his wife.
“His mood is excellent,” Dante chuckles. “Who knows, maybe we will get little pups here sooner than expected.”
“Aw,” I coo at the baby. “Look at that. Uncle Dante is lucky that you are here in my arms. Otherwise, I would have ripped his insufferable head off.”
