I laugh a bit.
“What’s so funny?” Liam asks.
I shake my head. “Nothing,” I mutter with a flush.
“Promise me, you will tell me if something is off,” Liam looks at me insistently. Again, I feel like he is just looking through me, right into my heart. “I need you to promise me.”
I nod. “I promise.”
In all honesty, I meant it. At that moment, I truly meant it.
*LIAM*
Despite the rough start to our date, I spent a lovely evening with my sweet mate. Once back at the packhouse, I went right to sleep. There is a long day awaiting me tomorrow.
I am still not sure if it was smart to let that vile girl - what’s her name? Lauren? – get away so easily. But I feel like it was Annalise’s call to make this time. It honestly surprised me that she stood up to them the way she did. She was calm and didn’t throw any insults at them, although she obviously was angry and hurt, yet she called them out for their shit. I believed she would be shier and timid, but apparently, she can hold her ground.
Goddess, I can’t wait to meet her again today.
I have barely made it out of the suite I live in at the packhouse when I can feel my mother on my heels. Did she camp in front of my door? And if yes, how grumpy is my father going to be that she basically left him on his own the whole night? In a way, I find that thought hilarious.
“Tell me her name, please! Please, please, please. Who is she? I am sure she is cute. Promise me you will be nice to her,” She follows me downstairs to the salon. “What does she look like? What does she like to eat? Does she like cake? I hope she does. I am thinking strawberry cake! You think she likes it? When are you bringing her over?”
I can’t help but smile.
“What’s all this about?” my younger brother Felix asks while exchanging a glance with my sister Aurelia. He is one-half of my twin brothers, my two youngest siblings, with wild blond hair and sun-kissed skin. He grins. I can’t remember having ever seen him in a bad mood. Aurelia, on the other hand, is a bit older than the twins. She will turn 16 soon, and she is my only sister. Obviously, we all have a soft spot for her.
“He met his mate and won’t tell me anything! For days now!” My mother pokes the air in front of me accusingly before turning towards my father. “Elden, say something!”
He did look a bit annoyed at the scene at first but now seems to enjoy it even more than I do. “I am sure he will tell us once he is ready,” he says soothingly.
My mother puts her hands on her hips, curling her little nose in annoyance. “And when is that supposed to be?”
I grab a few sandwiches and wave at my siblings. “See you later.”
Felix and Aurelia exchange a glance again before bursting into helpless giggles.
I start to leave just in time for our pack’s Gamma Aurel to arrive. He bows politely. “Luna Flora, I am here to pick you up, as promised.”
She looks at him, her eyes wide in surprise. “What for, Aurel?”
My siblings duck their heads to stop themselves from laughing.
“The Luna meeting,” Aurel states patiently. He is always patient. One could say he knows how to handle my mother. Next to him, the pack warrior supposed to accompany them looks slightly helpless. His name is Edward, and he turned 18 only recently. He showed so much potential during training that my father promoted him to be my mother’s bodyguard.
“Ah, ah,” she beams. “Right, let’s go! We don’t want to be late.”
“We are already late,” Aurel says with a smile.
“Au contraire, darling, the Iron Luna is never too late. She just comes in time for the food to be served.”
“That’s one way to put it,” my father mutters.
My mother smiles brightly. “Am I right, Edward?”
Edward looks at her in surprise. “You… you know my name, Luna?”
“Of course,” she pouts. “I know the names of all pack members!” She is about to leave when she suddenly halts, turns on her heels and runs back towards my father. She jumps into his arms, wrapping her legs around his waist. Then she kisses him.
