Page 149 of An Omega for the Lycan Prince
Flora’s words keep ringing in my ears. Don’t show them any weakness. Use your assets.
I think of Liam and how full of love and pride he always looks when he sees me or introduces me. I will my fear down because I know two things for certain: He won’t just attack a she-wolf of a foreign pack. And he indeed has no idea who he is talking to.
Make an example out of him.
“Excuse me,” I raise my head, looking him dead in the eye. It takes him by surprise, and I tug my hand free. “I wasn’t aware you were talking to me. You must be mistaking me for someone else which is totally understandable, based on the vast number of participants here.”
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see how everyone's attention is now focused on us. Some seem to be nervous, probably fearing a not-so-pretty scene to happen. But I also notice some of the older and visibly more powerful Alphas taking an interest. They probably put two and two together and know I’m not just any Omega waltzing through their meeting like a crazy nutcase on a suicide mission.
I note Elden, Calvin, and Vincent, too, all of a sudden. They must have just come in. Elden looks pissed and ready to strike. His Betas don’t seem to be too amused either. Elden doesn’t act though, and I assume he wants to give me the chance to pull off my show.
“Are you stupid,” one of the guys growls. “You are nothing. Are you here to sleep your way through some Alphas!?”
To my surprise, I just feel amused. Because technically, I did just sleep with an Alpha, well, my Alpha, but still…an hour ago, I was still writhing underneath my handsome mate. “I’m sorry. If this is your way to seduce me, I have to decline. I’m mated,” I state as if he just asked me a normal question. “There is only one man I sleep with.”
I see Vincent and Calvin exchange an amused glance, and Vincent flashes me a toothy grin. Some of the others grin too. Most of them seem to have understood the situation already.
He doesn’t seem to find it too funny. I can see his eyes darken, his aura trying to engulf me.Wow…Leah sounds bored, stretching her paws a bit and yawning. He isn’t even that strong. So much talk, and that’s his strength? He is nothing in comparison to our mate. She plops down again and curls her tail around her body.
The young Alpha seems to be genuinely shocked. “Why doesn’t it work? She is an Omega.”
“Please don’t take it personally,” I say in a matter-of-fact tone, but I’m finally fed up with his arrogance, narrowing my eyes to a glare. “But I don’t just bow to any Alpha. There is only one whom I allow to rule me.”
I turn on my heels, deciding it’s probably enough provocation for today. I don't want to appear too cocky and overdo it. Now it’s time to join Elden and his Betas. I instantly notice Elden’s almost black eyes and how he warningly stares at someone behind me…probably the two guys. They don’t follow me anymore.
Vincent grins. “I like you more and more every day,” he smirks.
It’s funny because I was instantly afraid when I first saw him and noticed his scary skinhead look. But he happens to be laidback and fun. Never judge a book by its cover, I think. I take my place next to Elden, who nods at me approvingly and nudges me with his elbow. “Where did you get these new tricks from, Annie?” he asks curiously.
“I learned from the best.”
“And who is that?”
I chuckle. “My current Luna.”
A grin spreads over his lips. “Why am I not surprised?”
It’s then that Liam finally arrives. The moment I see him, I feel fully at ease again. His presence always soothes me. “I apologize for being late,” Liam says to the crowd. “I had an important call to take from Alpha Celine. She is meeting with an informant and will be late.” He approaches me instantly, putting an arm around my shoulders and pulling me closer. I swear the look of horror in Alpha Dumbhead’s eyes is absolutely hilarious. “I believe most of you haven’t met my mate yet. May I introduce you to Annalise Preston? She is my fated mate and obviously mine!” The last part was spoken in a typical possessive Alpha attitude, but I find it incredibly hot.
“Are you certain it’s all right that I’m here?” I ask softly.
“Of course,” he blinks. “I need your opinion. Also, you are our only real witness.”
“All right.” I nod my head. “I’m just not sure if everyone here is comfortable with an Omega she-wolf around, that’s all.”
Next to me, Vincent snorts into his glass of water.
Liam frowns, his eyes darkening. “Anyone here have a problem with my mate?”
“No,” the Douchebag’s Beta hurries to reassure him. “Not at all!”
Some others nod, clearly uncomfortable.
A few of the stronger ones I noted previously look amused now. One of them looks at me with particular interest as they sit down. I noticed him before too. He was basically grinning from ear to ear when I played with the two idiots. “You sure know how to fight a silent battle, Miss Preston. Pity you are taken. Otherwise, I would have introduced you to one of my sons.”
“Still no mates for your sons, Jace?” Elden asks with a smirk.
“No,” he says in annoyance. “Meanwhile, they waste their time hooking up with random strangers. How will they ever take over the pack like that?”
