Page 12 of An Omega for the Lycan Prince
*ANNALISE*
After talking with Leah, I decide to travel home for the weekend. I need to visit my parents anyways. My father is already spamming me with messages. But my main reason is that I need to test my… well… Omega instincts.
I spend the day with my mother, helping her in her little garden, hanging out with Steve and Harmony and later going for a run with my father. He usually never takes me along because he thinks it’s too dangerous for his baby girl, as he tends to call me. He must have really missed me.
Later that day, I deliberately go to a place I know Alpha Cedric is frequenting. The moment I feel his presence, I expect my wolf to bow her head in submission. She doesn’t.
She isn’t scared.
I keep the pretense up, though. I lower my gaze, greeting him politely. Alpha Cedric asks me about college, and I answer. I don’t talk back; I don’t do anything offensive. I am just polite.
“I expect you to do well, Annalise,” he finally says earnestly. “I am proud you chose a subject that might benefit us later.”
I blush slightly at his words. “Thank you, Alpha Cedric,” I answer humbly. “I will do my best not to disappoint you and the pack.”
My talk with him leaves me confused. I am still a normal Omega; I have not magically developed any superpowers. But as Leah told me… Alphas are losing their grip on me. For now, I decide to keep an eye on that change within me but not bother too much.
Literature class is my favorite. I am studying law mainly to learn something useful for my pack – just like Alpha Cedric said earlier this week. Sure, our law differs from what Humans teach us, but it’s always important to know the rules of both worlds.
Literature is just something I do for fun and to earn a few credits. Next to me, Dave is half-asleep. Apparently, he spent the whole weekend drinking and partying.
“Morning Annie, is the place next to you still free?”
I look up to see Finn. “Sure. I didn’t know you signed up for this class as well.”
“I need it for the credits,” he explains.
I grin. “Same here.”
He drops his books onto the space next to me before sitting down with a sigh. “Hey Dave,” he nods towards him.
Dave merely grunts. “Keep your voice down, honey, please.”
I can’t hide my grin. Turning towards Finn, I make a slight drinking gesture with my hand.
Finn chuckles.
Only then do I shift my gaze and realize a group of girls is gaping and staring at me in shock. I haven’t noticed their presence before, but it makes me feel uncomfortable now that I do. No surprise that Finn is acting grumpy and annoyed most of the time. It has to be tiring to be in his position. Amidst the crowd, there is Lauren, her mouth basically dropped open.
Barely two weeks have passed, and Finn is already close to killing them.
“Oh,” Finn points at the hulk-like guy standing behind him. “That’s Anders. He is my Beta.” He points at me. “Annie.”
I nod my head, a polite smile spreading my lips. “Nice to meet you, Beta Anders.”
“Likewise,” he mutters.
“He’s pissed,” Finn states lazily.
“I am not,” Anders argues. He is bulkier than Finn, slightly taller and definitely a few years older. His red hair is cut short, and I can easily make out a few scars gracing his arms, one even across his right cheek.
“He absolutely is.” Finn stretches slightly. “Didn’t like me sneaking out.”
“Of course, I didn’t like that,” Anders huffs. “I got lucky last time when Alpha Liam busted us.”
His voice finally makes Dave stir slightly and blink his eyes open. When his gaze falls on Anders, he seems to be wide awake. “Oh, hello, sexy,” he beams.
Anders stares at him in surprise; I note Finn’s lips twitching slightly. When Anders looks at him, Finn just throws him a sassy grin. “He is talking to you, not me.”
