He doesn’t say anything, but I feel him pat my head.
“Okay, now go.” He hands me my bag, his voice a bit hoarse. “Before your Lycan raids our pack in search of you. I can already smell him.”
I squeeze him one more time before hurrying towards Liam’s car. “Liam!” I sit down next to him in the backseat. My cheeks feel flushed from the crispy air outside and from having spent a few days mostly outside, running, training, and breathing the fresh air. “Thank you for picking me up. Though I could have- “
He has an arm wrapped around me before I even notice, pulling me against his body and smashing his lips against mine. “You look stunning, Annalise,” he breaths against my lips.
I cling to his broad back like my life depends on it. My heart seems to explode whenever I’m with him. It’s almost like I lose control over my emotions, rational senses, and body. I just want him so much. I feel everything so much more than when we met for the first time.
“Please, no sex on the backseat while I’m here,” Ari sighs dramatically. I only notice her now. She is sitting in the front seat, next to Emerson. “Emerson, drive us out of here.”
I blush slightly. “Hi, Ari. Emerson. I am sorry,” I stutter. “We were apart for so long.”
Aryanna chuckles. “Three days is a lot?” She looks at Emerson. “What do you say, Em?”
“It’s an eternity,” he says in his usual quiet manner but in a matter-of-fact tone.
Liam smirks. “See?”
“Okay, okay,” she raises her hands and chuckles. “I admit defeat. Continue to ravish each other, by all means.”
Liam rolls his eyes and takes my hand into his. “Well then, distract me and tell me about your visit home. I will ravish you later.”
“All right,” I smile, noting how Liam’s eyes widen.
When I notice his eyes getting darker, his gaze becoming more determined, I figure it’s about time to stop playing and distract him with my boring life. So, I do as he asked and tell him about my days with my family and my plans with Ella and Dave this weekend. I need to go shopping. Harmony was right. My wardrobe is pathetic. And if I ever have to meet Liam’s parents – and I freaking know I need to – I want to be prepared. Dave’s pretty much my go-to styling expert in that case. He just knows what suits me. Liam’s eyes are getting darker the longer he listens. He looks displeased. I would have preferred for him to look happy or… something else, but not pissed. But hey, it’s better than his typical standoffishness. “Is something off?” I ask carefully.
“You talk a lot about this man. An awful lot.”
I blink slightly. “Are you jealous?”
“Any man would be!”
I can’t help it anymore; I just have to burst into helpless laughter. “You are an idiot,” I giggle. I notice Ari and Emerson holding their breaths, but I could care less. No matter what I do or say, Liam would never hurt me. I know that much. The worst that could happen is him marking me, and heck, I want him to do that anyway!
Or he would like to punish me another way?But even that I suddenly find appealing. Liam punishing me? Sign me up for it. I allow my fantasy to dive into that what-if scenario. It doesn’t scare me. In fact, a part of me almost longs for it. I’m an Omega wolf, and a part of me – as tiny as it might be – is submissive. Not to any Alpha, but to my mate.
Fuck, Annie, stop it.Leah begs.If you go further, I might reach out to Fenris.
“Annalise?” Liam gladly pulls me out of my very real sexual fantasies and back to reality. Right, we were talking about Dave. “Care to enlighten me?” he huffs.
“Yes, I care to enlighten you,” I tease him. “Dave is my best friend. He is human. And he is very… gay.”
The tension dissolves, and out of the corner of my eyes, I can see Ari grin. When I laugh again, I notice him looking at me again, his eyes darker than usual… filled with want.
He wraps an arm around my waist and pulls me closer. I would have landed on his lap if it wasn't for my seatbelt. He nuzzles his nose into my hair before kissing and licking my neck. “You will be the end of me,” he mutters breathlessly.
Later I will tell him that I’m definitely not ditching any male friends just because I have a mate. I won’t constantly talk about them either, but still, he needs to know. For now, though, I allow his passion to engulf me. A few weeks ago, I would have never imagined falling in love… so fast, so hard, so head-over-heels. I love him, mate bond or not. I’m so in love with him.
Chapter fourteen
Chapter 14 Shopping with the gang
*ANNALISE*
Ididn’tmakeitout of Liam’s car as soon as I originally expected to. After reaching our destination and stopping the car, the other two leave us alone for a moment. Emerson went to grab some coffee, a dreamy smile on his lips – probably thinking of his own mate. And Ari? She left the car, waiting outside for us to finish our lengthy goodbye.
Liam unbuckles my seating belt, finally able to pull me on top of him.
